now from what i know the 98 customs receiver halves are an aluminum mixture of metal. A fellow pballer is having a problem. He bought a progressive barrel and there's a problem, it won't go in. I had the barrel and and noticed that it doesn't have as many threads on it as the stock one. The barrel fits on other 98's just not this one. Also the starter threads on the reciever look kind of chewed up. Has anyone else had probs with the smart parts barrels, with the less threads, and not going into the gun:confused:

The problem is most likely the threads on his receivers. If it's still under warranty, see what tippmann can do. I'm not sure that they'll replace receiver halves though...

i told him to call tippmannn, but its pretty crazy to replace the halves:s I thought they might send him a new gun, considering it cant really work like it is. And i have a sneaky feeling those progressive threads on the barrel are what chewed his gun's threads up. They were really iffy on my gun, but never to the point where they messed the threads up

I have a smart parts tear drop. It looks great, but the logos and stuff don't line up. You can see it in the picture gallery. It needs to screw in like 1/4 more of a turn. I like the barrel though so I'm not too worried about it being perfect.

i think you may have gotten a different barrel thats not for the 98

yeah, i agree that they should have made an effort for the logo's to line up with the threads but hey, no biggie. And the barrel IS for the 98 because it fits on, and says its for the 98. It just has less threads then the dtock barrel does, so it comes loose easier and you really have to torqe it on so it doesn't move side to side

Is there a gap in the breech? Could a ball pinch in there? It isn't so great of a ledge that this would happen, but I could see an occasional ball break or two happeneing because of that.

i thought my teardrop wouldnt go in when i first got it. instead i just had to cock the gun because the bolt was covering the threads.
but back on topic i'd give tippmann a call and see what they can do for you, they're customer service is usually really good and should be able to help you out.
