I really couldn't find another place to put this so i'll put it here.
Ok i'm insane i'll admit that, but I really like to play paintball with just a half-mask or even just the goggles (don't all yell at once)
What is everyone's opinion on just eye protection (no face protection) AND does anyone know where I can get combat goggles that could fit with a military helmet?
sorry if this doesn't make sense its 5 am....

99.9% of fields will not let you play with only goggles.

I could see playing without the side pannels, but why would you want to leave your mouth unprotected? You could probably get your teeth knocked out.
The JT airstream is just a foam band with a mouth guard and googles. Not much of a mask, but the fields will let you play with it. So why not just goggles?

The side panels are important too, though. To protect your ears. Take a direct hit in the ear, and you stand a good chance at not hearing out of it anymore. ;) Of course, if the strap covers your ears well enough, than you're probably ok. But it's still a risk. Be careful.

The military goggles you're looking for are commonly used in Airsoft. Those are designed to take an airsoft pellet at up to 550 fps (I believe it's something like that), so that should work for a paintball at 280 fps.

If I were to play with you I'd aim at your face all the time.......for being an idiot. If your field actually cares about gettin sued they won't let you play like that anyways.

A lot more stuff should happen to your ear then just getting hit by a paintball. Like there are 2 or 3 bones inside your ear, way inside. When they are broke, then you cant hear. And there are little hairs deep inside your ear, when they fall out, then you also cant hear. But if you mean hitting the ear drum, then you'll need a pretty good shot.

Would you rather have a little bit of discomfort for a couple hours or a disfigured face for the rest of your life? Or not be able to hear? Or loose a tooth?
Safe is better

I think that sums it up well.
To be honest, I used GOGGLES ONLY from 1992 to 1998.
1998 is when most fields were FORCED to ban goggles-only by there insurance companies. In 1999, many fields also banned old-style Masks as well.
Did I loose any teeth from 1992-1998? No, but I had lots of fat lips.
Why did I do it? Well, most tournament players in the 90s also used Goggles only. The main reason was you would get bouncers when they hit you in the face. Plus, it made it easier to breath, and was more comfortable.
So... even though I wasnt hurt, I definetly could have been. What if I was hit while my mouth was open? Or in the ear? or up my nose? Who knows....
But, if you really want to, just buy a cheap mask, and strip the goggles out. DO NOT use non-paintball goggles. They will break with a direct hit.

Well I guess its dorta like me in in the hockey situation. As soon as I turned 18 I stopped using a shiled and went to a half visor. YEA I have gotten fat lips, split lips, and knocked teeth buts its still alittle diffrent. First off the chances of gettin hit are much less then in paintball. And second its not like I can get hit in the face more than once in 1 second, in paintball you can get hit like 10 times in a second.

Almost no fields will let you play without a mask. I played with goggles only until 1999 or so.
The paintball won't knock your teeth out, it won't knock you unconscious, it won't make you deaf.
That said, they can cause facial scars, tear your lips open, cut your ears open, and other kinds of nasty effects.
I played with only goggles as long as the fields would let me, even when people thought I was insane for doing so, that said, today I'd wear a full mask. They are much more comfortable than they were in the 80s and 90s, and far more paint is fired today.
It's one thing to get shot in the lip once at close range, it's another to get shot 5 or 6 times.
Take the advice of someone who has played more paintball with googles only than while wearing a mask, wear a mask.

I would definetely recommend using a full mask. I guy I used to play woodsball with used Airsoft goggles, and he got a broken nose from being shot point blank from the side. The gun chronoed at ~350 fps~, but hey, it happens.

Ignore this guy. H'es an idiot when he doesn't sleep. Just play with a mask like everyone else and be safe. That's whats important. :)

At the NPPL NJ event I recall seeing either some players or refs wearing only goggles.
IMO, do it all you want, but you'll regret it once you get smashed in the face. All I know is, I'll keep my JT proflex system thank you very much.:)

Eeeeeeeek, only eye protection? And people say I'm psycho... I feel safer having full-face protection. All the consequences sound awful and I don't think wearing goggles only is worth the trouble.

if we have the technology to keep ur face protected... and have sure protection of it... then let the idiots who dont care get their teeth knocked out and their noses broken....
If they dont care why should we... we have taken the nessisary procautions to keep them safe and if they want to risk loosing vital body parts.. so be it.
