I was thinking of getting a gladiator reg for my new timmy, and was wondering what preset PSi I should get. 3000 or 4500?

With a Gladiator regulator, an adjustable tank would be best.

if you get an adjustable tank, the gladiator is not needed, correct? YOu could just run a gas through grip. and I would get a 68/4500 tank if I were you. Not that big, but you can get quite a few shots with it.

Actually the glad regs work great on preset tanks. And generally just because you have an adjustable tank doesn't mean you still shouldn't get a reg. But yeah the 68/4500 would be a good tank. The output pressure on the presets is generally 800psi whether or not it is a 4500 or 3000 those are just the psi storage copasity of the tank not the actual output pressure. My team mate has a 68/3000 preset to 800psi and he gets a max of +/-2.

Wouldn't you want to feed the Gladiator the exact pressure it wants? which can only be reached by an adjustable tank...?

No. A gladiator can handle almost anything you throw at it. The output pressure of a gladiator ranges from 0-500psi, so I'll let you take a guess at how much pressure it will take from a tank.
And even if you had an adjustable tank, you should get an inline regulator. It would make any gun incredibly consistent.
Like c4pyro said, with my gladiator and preset 68/3000 I get
+/- 2fps at the chrony.
