You couldn't really take any of those into a tourney and expect to compete, so I wouldn't worry about it :D I realize that technically you can take anything into a tourney, but nothing Kingman makes stock (excluding EM1) is tournement ready.

Well... True it'll be a lightyear behind alot of the other stuff out there, but you can still play, and do alright with one. Really there's nothing stopping a Spyder owner from winning a tourney, but he will for sure be at a disadvantage against alot of other people. Although they do have tournaments that require the use of CO2 and no electronics near me, and that helps level the playing field a little. But then again, I've gone up against people with Spyders, and lost even though I've got the advantage of a better gun, it's 90% skill, 10% gun :)

Well,, this is what I did. I was in the same boat. I was not wanting to drop down the $170 for the TL so I bought a Compact 2000. Now, my gun looks no different from a TL. It is a little smaller, but hey ,,thats even better. You may end up spending a little more in the long run but you save money at first. If you were going to get the compact and get all the add-ons the same day,,I would go for the TL, it would be cheaper.

TL+'s are better then Shutters. So a TL would be the way to go.

I had a TL plus, was great, didnt want a compact because its pretty much a TL plus without the upgrades. I didnt want a shutter because its pretty much a TL plus with useless ****ty upgrades, except for the DF.

And a DF is something you can add, and still have gun that costs less then a Shutter.

Definetly edit out the compact, big time sux (i think) The shutter is a nice flashy gun with good preformance. However for efficiency price relation the TL+ is the way to go. Personally id get some g2 piranha tho there like spyder clones, with a few extra cool things (sear switch)

Shutter or TL+, depends how much you got to spend, Ive used a shutter and even as a cocker owner i could appreciate it, however the TL+ is also potentially a great gun, stock the Shutter is better though.

..the shutter....and the compact...and I believe....even the TL..(not positive on the TL though)...

are all basicly the same standard body ..they are compact bodies....and take compact valve springs.....and the new smaller striker....

so if you are going to upgrade anyway....doesnt make that much difference which you start out with....

and the shutters DF is only good if you use there adapter......because kingman uses a side by side screw setup on there DF to hook up the adapter....and all the other DF's use a front to back screw set up.....

and I don't think it drops it enough or foward enough for that matter....in my opinion..

I don't like shutters. They are basically overpriced TL+'s. The shutter has a mini x a mini reg and a guage, but none of those work properly. The TL+ is the same thing without those useless parts for a lot cheaper. It's Basically the compact with a foregrip and bottomline set up.

And as for twicho, I agree, but that's if the guns arent one player having a stingray and the other having a cocker. The guy with the stingray isn't gonna get near the range or accuracy as the guy with cocker so the guy with the cocker could just stand out in the open shooting while the other guys paintballs are dropping short. What do you think? As long as the guns are close. I think my sts could compete with a cocker any day. It's not stock, but it's not all tricked out either. I think it would hang in a tourny.

well..I agree with some of that and disagree with other parts......a stock shutter works really well with N2....I used mine stock except for the barrel with N2 and the regulator works just fine for what it is and the little extra you pay....(granted it is not the "best" regulator...but it is not the worst either)...and with n2..doesn't really matter if there is an expansion chamber or not because N2 is not effected by an x chamber..only co2 is......

and the part about a guy with a cocker standing in the open...having more "range"....not true if they are both shooting with the same FPS...(two balls traveling at the same speed ...out of the same lenth barrel....shot at the sam trajectory...with the same pressure used.....would travel the same distance....no matter what type gun shot it......and "accuracy" all has to do with paint/ barrel match.....and pressure used.....

SO....stand in the open with your cocker...and I with my spyder behind a bunker...I am sure you will be the one tagged.......not me...

I had a TL+ for a month and the only problem I have had was a bad cup seal. I wish I would have got a compact though becuase the TL is NOT a speedball gun(too long, long trigger). Go with the compact, the TL+ is good, but a Shutter is just a TL+ with a Regulator that doesnt work.

travisp17

the compact is out of the question, as for the tl or shutter, that depends on a lot, like if u r playin were its warm or is it cold, nitro or co2, the shutter looks good, but the mini expansion chamber is a joke, but the shutter can handle nitro, the tl cant, so if ur using the shutter(stock) in cold weather and the tl(stock) with co2 the tl will preform better, it all depends on ur situation

learn the game well...become one of the players that is always making the hits....by that time you will have already gone on to different thinking about guns and air or co2....

tl

If you are looking practally, I would go with the TL PLus. The TL plus and shutter are very similar, execpt for some asthetic improvements. Shutter is milled, bolt is milled, has a gauge, anodized, etc. Some of these upgrade might help your game a bit, but on a price stand point the TL plus has just about everything you need for a lower price. If you are upgrading your marker later, you might not need the upgrade that the shutter gives you anyways..

SAWTAN-THE-GREAT

what you should do is buy the best spyder for the price (the new spyder 2000) then you should put on upgrades like a x chamber and some low pressure stuff and then finally a boo-yah elcd grip to make it electro then you have a good tourney gun at the greatest value (better than the em1) also you could just forget the x chamber get compressed air and since the spyder 2000 has a reg with gauge already you could get a cheap nitro system for like 200$ or less

WaxMaster
05-18-2001, 06:07 PM
Neither... get an Xtra. vert feed is the best. everything you need and nothing you dont unlike the shutter. better design and features. if players did more research i think less would buy shutters. shutters are nice but you can get better cheaper.

tj
06-19-2001, 07:42 AM
well i would go with the tl+ or the extra. I wouldnt want the shutter because the oppen bolt in the back will just allow more dirt to get into the gun. witch means more cleaning for nothing more than just looks.(it does look cool)

fear my impulse

shutter is basically a tl+. few differences.

If you want a good gun that will last long and kick some major @$$ at a low price get a Piranha STS g2 or g3, seriously it out performs the compact and the tl and is on par with the Shutter and is about $50 cheaper than the shutter!

TL +
A Shutter is just a pertty TL +
with a couple extra bells and whistles.

The shutter is definitely a kick *** gun! i've had it for about a year and play it stock, except a CP barrel. I easily hold my ground against high end guns like cockers and kick severe ***! It's been my perfect lil baby and never gave me the slightest trouble. In my entire use of this gun, i've only broken exactly 3 balls and those were my faults for like not screwing in the barrel right and stuff. And even though im getting a Black Magic, i dont wanna part with my shutter. But like one of the posts said, this game is 90% player and 10% gun... If you want to be able to play better, practice! improve yourself! not the gun...

JesterDude15
07-19-2001, 06:36 AM
The gun HAS to be more than 10%.

BOBO2
07-19-2001, 03:07 PM
No the gun is 10% if your good you can make any thing work. But back to the subject I'd get a compact and upgrade the hell out of it.

I would also get a Compact because it doesnt come with parts that dont work (I.e. Kingman Reg, "mini X-chamber").

thats the best point of it all right there, and the rear cocking does nothing for performance.

BOBO2
07-20-2001, 08:35 AM
Actualy the rear cocking is very easy to strip, and it does move a little faster than side cocking, but not much more, dut it looks cooler.

Moose
08-08-2001, 09:15 AM
I like the TL+ the best because it is basically a compact with rear cocking since your going to be adding a new bottomline with a drop forward and reg eventually. Its just a bit expensive to do that.

And yes, the mini x chamber works well enough and the regulators on both the shutter and 2000 work fine despite the x chamber on the shutter.

The Spyder Shutter is an awesome gun. I own a Blue Spyder Shutter and believe me the gun is sweet, only thing i need to change is i need to get a new barrel. Stock barrel sucks on the shutter but it still performs well in battle!!!!! thats all i have to say..................u can check out a pic of my shutter in the Kingman pics section........

i seriously wouldn't get the shutter if u play in the woods a lot, because the shinny paint job on the gun sticks out like a sore thumb. my friend has one and the only way i spotted him in the woods is because of his gun, it was shinning in the sun light and it was a freakin signal light.

Get the Xtra, it uses the nuts of all the rest of the spyders for a speed bag when it comes to feeding abilitys. my bros xtra feeds as fast as my cousins compact with a 9volt revy. but hey, get what you want.

rolemodel07

the shutter is bright and shiny but its nice looking and if u put a camo-cloth on it,,,,,,,it blends in.........but i just like my gun cause it shoots good.......

Well, I vote Shutter and I own one. I haev not broken a single ball or ever had a single problem. The gauge, exp chamber, and reg all work just fine too.
