WHAT IS AIRSOFT?

First of all, that picture you posted is not Airsoft. Airsoft is a combat simulator game using air guns that resemble real-world weapons. They fire either plastic BB's or 6mm paintballs. The object of Airsoft is to really "play war". Search on E-Bay for Airsoft to see some guns.

There are 3 types of airsoft guns:
Spring (Pistols, Sniper rifles & Shotguns)
Gas (Pistols,Shoutguns & Sub machine guns)
Electric (Assault rifles, Sniper rifles and machine guns).
Spring being pump, Gas semi-auto & electric full-auto. Airosft gun war is about realism. The weapons look real and most of them weigh as much as a real one does. They are made out of plastic, or you can get full metal.
Airsoft war is a bit dodgy because; No marks when hit. Most decent airsoft guns break your skin, because they shoot hard plastic balls.
Airsoft war is great fun if played with at least 20 people, in a big woodland area. You have snipers to look out for, vulcan cannons to dodge, etc. etc.

"Most decent airsoft guns break your skin, because they shoot hard plastic balls."
Umm, no. I heard airsoft hurts less than paintball.

ummm yeah that was a really educated comment
it may hurt less but it's basically a bb. If hit with one of high power ones on bare skin, it will break the skin.

i heard airsoft leaves welts and bruises not cut or holes what scares me away from playing 2 things
1) usually unadjustable fps some up to 410fps (ouch)
20 someone could bring a real gun and kill people:paranoid:

"it may hurt less but it's basically a bb. If hit with one of high power ones on bare skin, it will break the skin."
I never said that it wasn't possible to have skin broken by an airsoft BB. BUT, you said that "most decent airsoft guns will break your skin", like ALL of them do it ALL the time, which isn't true. And public airsoft games are chronoed just like pball games, and unsafe FPSs are not allowed.
And I didn't mean any offense with my reply.

malaki, jw - you seem to know about arisoft, what is the FPS limit?

the fps limit is different for each field, airsoft is based on a honor system, and the concept is milsim...its prob. the closest to actual military action...many teams ive seen that play go out in full bdu's, tac. vests, bolle goggles, kevlar gloves, the real thing...they basically try to simulate real life tactics ala cqb, guerilla, etc...
springers are usually bought by newbies, and they range from 20-50...the best companies are tokyo marui or uhc
gbbs are gas blowbacks, meaning you use gas to make the gun work, most gbbs are hand guns...price ranges from 90-200 and many have full metal body kits
next are aegs, or automatic electric guns, these guns are usually the assault rifles such as m16 variants, ak47s, the aforementioned aug, etc. prices range from 180-??? and you can do many upgrades and customize them to the fps you desire
last but not least are the bolt action rifles, those require cocking each time after you fire a bb, just like a real bolt rifle...
lastly, airsoft does hurt, imagine getting hit by a gun w/ 450+fps only 150 feet away, that hurts a lot, but the springers dont, if u get shot point blank it feels like a pinch...
