Would you buy a m98 if......
Hey , just wondering about this , i had an idea for m98s , let me know what you think.......
I run a store in central ohio , in process of building a large field w/ proshop and like everyone around uses m98s , they're the "big thing". Well , i finally found a guy that i can contract to do powdercoating for m98s. If you don't know what powdercoating is, its like ano but you can do it on m98s , which aren't possible to ano becuase of thier metalic composition.
Anyways , i was thinking of releacing my own edition(s) of m98s. All in diff powdercoated cammo patterns and setup to be like that pattern. IE a urban cammo m98 with a RT , drop forward, aftermarket barrel ( haven't decided yet ,some sort of 2 piece 10-12" , maybe CP. And like desert cammo , standard cammo , fall cammo ,ect and suit each gun to it.
Think it'd be a interesting idea ? the guns would only run about $50 over a stock m98 price after powdercoating , and most of the parts would be matched to it.
THx!

I'm pretty sure you'd have to get Tippmann's permission to make sure that it doesn't void the warranty. Otherwise that's not such a bad idea, you may want to do just reciever halves too for those of us who already own an M98.
sorry mate, theres already a company that does powdercoating for tippies for free. but it is a good idea and it looks great.
that would be a really good idea!!! i'd buy one(if i didn't allready own a tippy)
so what if some one else does it?

Your store got an online ordering site? I'm in the market for a 98 with some upgrades and a nice camo job would be good as well.

I think it's a good idea, just check with Tippmann and such about it. You may also be able to get a bulk/store type discount on the guns if you bought directly from them.

I like how you backed that statement up. Could you prove that? Oh and who cares if there's someone else that does it? So someone would do it for free. But then you have to go through the hassle of sending your gun in to them, paying shipping, etc. Buying pre-powder coated, IMO, would be easier and more reliable.

Talked to tippmann , they confuse me quite a bit..... they told me they don't have bulk discounts for wholesalers......very wierd, so i'll prolly call em tommrow , i'm in the market for around 100 m98s anyways ( i need em for my field ) I got a few NIB m98s here anyways , i might get then PCed tommorow.
As for the powdercoating for free , who does this cuz i'd love to get some done for free.....last time i checked they were running about $50 per batch of 1 color coating.
What would you guys like to see ?
I was thinking......... ( help me out with this , i'm asking peeps on PBN as well)
Having 4 edition m98s each with a different cammo color , like woodlands, desert , fall and urban.
And for like the urban cammo ( like a speedball style model )
I'd have ...
Urban cammo powdercoating ( more durable usually)
SP teardrop barrel (or CP ,or Xcell )
RT kit
chrome psyco ballistics drop
for around $300ish , give or take a bit

I Emailed Tippmann about it. They said it'd void the warranty. But that doesn't prevent me from offering a warranty from my store on em (and it'd be equivilent to Tippmanns warranty)

Sounds like a great idea. And if your warranty does what their's can do it! I wouldn't mind having an urban cammie 98 :)

Met with guy who's gonna do the work for me.......chatted for 2 hours about paintball stuff.......he not only powdercoats but makes his own barrels and such. So i asked him if he could produce items i thought up and he said yes just get me a blueprint so........... i can get like custom manufactured drop forwards , even barrels and he had some nice barrels. One of the barrels he showed me was a firearm bull-bore style barrel , looked really cool , looked like one of thoes james bond silencers.
I'll keep everyone updated , he's supposed to have powdercoating samples to me by the end of the week. The powdercoating i'd say is about 5 times more durable than the stock tippmann paint. He had a piece of aluminum ( about 1/2 to 1lb ) of powdercoated alumum he threw against concrete and handed it to me.....no damage really. So this would REALLY help that after one year of use , you can tell its been used.
Everything looks peachy , after i get samples i'll get a m98 done in urban cammo to show everyone.

Well actually he would be a store, not a manufacturer.

Will - I'd be somewhere in the middle, not the manufacturer, but have exclusive rights to sell/distribute these items as I want to.
We got some ideas for a drop, and some sick M98 addons that no one else has made that'd be great for the hardcore reccers, as well as some sweet other ideas.
im not trying to be about it, theres a website called opsgear dot com, you haver to go through google. they are texas based and powdercoat their tippies for no extra fee if ure buying.

I found that site, and it just says paint. For free, that most likely means spray paint and sealer.

You have to buy the 98 from them , stock, and then they paint it, it's not like you can send your gun to them and they do it for free, it's included in the cost of the gun. Besides Xtrmp8bllr is talking about getting custom parts and upgrades and selling his Tipps already upgraded a bit.
Speaking of which, Xtrm, do you think you could offer this service to those of us who already own a 98C? I wouldn't mind a Vietnam style Tiger stripe job on my Tippmann. Does your man think he could do that new Marine Corps style pixelation? I might be willing to give up small, unimportant, parts of my body(not my trigger fingers) for a paintjob like that.

I talked to him for 2 hours about some of the ideas i had for my m98s and such , meeting went quite well.
Not only does he powdercoat but he also has a line of his own barrels. One of the products he showed me was a mp5 style barrel ( ever see in the movies where they have mp5s w/ thoes huge silencers on em ) They looked quite awesome. He does quite a bit of stuff ,i could contract powdercoating out , but just wait a lil while till i can see what he can do ,we talked about it and i'm gonna get some samples sunday or so and take some pics. Don't know about the pixelation cammo , basic stuff to him is gonna be hard. One REALLY REALLY ( and i must stress REALLY ) cool thing he can do is called " silver vein " its soo friggin awesome , i might get a couple done in cammo , then silver vein to show you how cool it is. I'm tradin him a website and crap for my own products , his machine shop is gonna make me some un-invented m98 products ( i got one that'll knock any scenario player's socks off ) but i can't talk about that yet......i need some patents :)

Yep, 'tis what I was meaning. As for the post right above this, sounds awesome. Keep us informed :)

If this is to me, no worries. I thought you meant people could send their Tippies in and get 'em powdercoated for free. Just a little mix up :)
