I was of the opinion that the vavle on an Automag regulated the air compression to the same point all the time making a regulator redundant. Am I correct to think this?

An Mag has a built in regulator. Combine that with the reg in a HPA tank and you now have a 2-reg system. There is NO NEED for a another reg.
Yes, some people like Creek put on a Palmer Stabilizer, but that is not needed most of the time.

I have an Air America tank, is that good enough to not need a reg?

That AA tank has a built-in reg.

I was just wondering why 2 regs is enough for a mag, but cockers usually have 3 and timmies have 4?

Shockers have one. :)
It probally just depends on the reg and design of the marker.

It could starve the marker. I have heard about people gutting the Mag valve and using another reg.

actually, those regs you are talking about, the ones on the front, dont nessicarily regulate the air going into the gun. they just drive the bolt back and forth i believe. so actually there are only 2 regs, the one on the tank, and the inline.

Which is what most markers usually have.. HPA regulator, and an Inline regulator.
