View Full Version : How to tell when opponent is using higher velocity?
I'm just curious how to tell when someone is using a higher than field allowed velocity?
I got shot point blank by my friend who had his set to 290...
literally the gun was like 1 foot from me.
We had a private party and all was well, till our last game, where some tourney type players and regulars wanted a piece of the noobs (us)...
So it was 15 vs 7 of them but we won...luckily b/c the ref was on our side and tried to help us... LOL
Anyways one of my friends rushed a guys bunker and got shot about 10Ft away and walked away bleeding all over his body...
These werent bruises...it broke skin and literally leaving blood spots on his shirt...
I'm wondering whether this could be a sign that those ahole regulars/tourney players turned up their air?
Thanks for reading this long thread!

10 feet away is pretty close, close enough to draw blood at 290 fps. experienced players can tell if someone's shooting hot just by watching the ball travel. you have to get used to how far a paintball will travel from a certain point on the field. until then, you'll just have to guess and ask the ref to have him/them chrono.

Perhaps, perhaps not.
I've had skin break (just saturday) on a hit from a gun that was shooting 255 on average, but I was hit in the forearm and my sleeves were rolled up, but I've had hits from guns averaging 300-305 on the chrono and all they did was leave a welt, but those were body/ leg hits.

After being shot a few times from various ranges with a normal marker, you'll know when someone is shotting hot ;)
And a tell tale sign someone is shooting hot is when you get hit from 20+ feet and get cut ;)

From my own experience, anything above 280 at closer ranges (bunkering range out to about the distance between two bunkers, like the 50 and 40) will draw blood on bare skin.
Around 295-300 at the same ranges I've had blood drawn through t-shirts.

i can tell if its hot by watching them shoot a few at a tree or even straight at the ground

A good way to tell if there shooting hot is when you get gogged and Your mask snapps ad the paintball lodges into your brain and you die. Or it snapps your extemeties like tooth picks and they must be amputated, or the blowback from there gun launches there hopper 50 feet skyward. These have been tips for hot shooter spotting by Ted. Thank you.

not necessarily. Depends on where you get hit too.

haha, my Samurai does that! So annoying! But funny at the same time. That thing seriously sounds like a shot gun! it's great when you sneak up on someone then let them have it with NOISE! MWhhaa(The paint never hits em, but hey, they get so scared from the BOOM it's worth it).

Keep in mind that you can add ~25 ft/sec to the paintballs velocity if you fire while running in the direction you're shooting. This way, a gun shooting 290 would feel like a gun shooting 315. So, watch out for those tape runners.

You can run a 4.8 40 while shooting straight?? Impressive.

 Put up 5 targets, run a 40, add number of missed targets to your time. :P Like the biathlon... go fast... but not TOO fast. :)

That would be really funny. If you write the proposal to the IOC, I'll even let you take some of the credit for the idea! It would be awefully close to a biathlon though.
I've done a couple of biathlons.......just not the ski/shoot type. I pretty into triathlons, so on occaision, I've done a swim/run or bike/run biathlon. They aren't bad, but I really like the concept of combining an athletic sport with a finesse sport. Very cool.

Ah, but this is different because you shoot WHILE running. I guess you could run there in a hurry first, then pause and shoot. But your time would suck. :P

no one ever mentioned type of paint....
I know evils are hard as hell (my friends and I couldn't pop one with thumb and index finger and we work out!!). If you get hit and start to bleed wonder what type of paint they are using.

Sounds like "wind chill factor"
Should be called "running while shooting factor"

Are you kidding? Evils are some of the thinnest shelled paints available.
It doesn't matter if you work out, because you probably don't do much in the way of your thumb and forefinger anyway. Regardless, though, it's tough to pop a paintball by squeezing it if you don't use your fingernails-- think about it, sometimes paint bounes off of you going 280-300fps... and you think you can break it between your fingers?

not kidding. so evils are just so well made that you cant pop them with fingers? I have been able to do it with every other paintball i've used...blaze, big ball, marbs, 32 degrees....

I meant are you kidding about Evil's being thick shelled.

hard not thick
teufelhunden

AFAIK thickness=hardness

if it is so thin why doesnt it break when squeezed? if its so thin why isnt it brittle?
kind of the same question.
Balls sometimes still bounce at 280- 300 fps because either a person is wearing something loose fit and hit at an angle
when I apply direct force on the evil with my thumb and finger, it in my mind should break like other balls... I'd like to compare a pball to an egg... Obviously there are different pballs out there, ones being more flexible than others. Eggs i would say are pretty thin shelled and can stand a lot of pressure all around its frame as long as it is not focused at one point. Revelation! thanks teuf for helping me find it. :P

I don't know... when I'm at the field, I'll toss extra paint at various objects for fun. Evil is the only paint I've been able to get break using an under handed lob toss. It barely hit the post and broke completely open. That's soft.
Maybe your batch was just really old.

now that i think about it yeah, it was pretty old maybe 3 weeks
