View Full Version : About warp feeds

After having watched the Push trailer, and then watching the actual Push video about one team's quest to live like rock stars, I've come to the conclusion that so far, trailers are the more interesting to watch. They keep it short and sweet, showing you the highlights, the cool moves, the gogs and the bunkerings, and in the case of the 300fps trailer, the occasional punch to the head .
Of course when I finally start filming paintball games, it'll be done the right way. But anyway...
I would've posted this in the other thread talking about the Derder Paintball trailers (http://www.derderpaintball.com/) , but that thread's about music. I've got another question entirely. I just watched the four videos they've got up currently and not once did I see any sort of Warp feed setup. These are the hardcore players in the big time tourneys. I would've thought that at least one of 'em would have sprung for the extra edge. There's plenty enough hopper hits on those videos to warrant the need. What am I missing here?

1) Most of the time it hits the hopper, it woulda just smacked you in the goggles anyway.
2) They add quite a bit of weight to your gun, and completely throw off it's balance.

2) That just takes a little getting used to, and it's well worth it considering the other thing...
1) "Most of the time," sure, it'd smack you in the face. But for tournament play, it's all about the time that it doesn't. By how many points did we squeak into the semis? What if one man had a Warp, and stayed in at a key time in the game? That's points we wouldn't have gotten, not to mention the dramatic difference they could've made on the outcome of the rest of the game. They could've sent us packing home in time for lunch. Am I right?
Anybody else out there think it might be worth it?

I thought we bunkered most of them. ;)

Plenty of pro's use warps. Bob Long, arguably the most famous name in the game, uses a warp feed.

2) They add quite a bit of weight to your gun, and completely throw off it's balance. 1) How low do you hold you gun? ...or do you jsut have a big head? Like half my hopper is above my head...when I used to use one. Also, have you ever tilted your gun because it was more comfortable in an awkward firing position? Notice how much more your hopper sticks out than your head?
2)I've used my warp for a year and never hought it unbalanced. In fact, It think it makes my gun more balanced. All the weigh is in the center, rather than it being top heavy. And the warp rests on my left forearm in a normal firing position.

I thought warp feeds were dieing since the ROF advantage is dead. In the old days before HAlOs or Good Eggs, a warp was the only way to really pass 13 bps. Back then 17 bps with warp feed was a force. Nowadays everyone pulls that with eggs or Halos, not just guys that are willing to lug round the warp.
I never really thought warp was a major profile effect, though people argue it did/does.

"Hah, you can only feed 22bps. I feed 24!:P Nah ner nah ner nah ner!"

I learned to play tight with the hopper instead of figuring out a way around it. ;)

The other problem with warpfeed is that it still sticks out to the side depending on which side you mount it on. If it's mounted on the left, then you're gonna expose alot more when you shoot out the left side of a bunker.

You actually aren't, because you don't switch hands when you fire out of the other side of a bunker.

what you do when shooting out the warp side of the bunker is tilt the marker so that it is horizontal
The Warp isn't about BPS, it's all about removing the hopper target from above you, or sticking out first from a bunker.
AGD doesn't sponsor any Pro teams, and Manny Francia is our only sponsored Pro player. Manny shoots his sponsored GUN, an Automag.
Pro's use what they are paid or sponsored to use, not what they want to use. Bob Long "got" the Warpfeed concept right away, and loves it.
