u can only go so far with a 98 get the intimyy
Of course everyone will tell you Intimidator. This is why: the Intimidator is made to run at high speeds with compressed air.
The Model 98 is made for begginers and rec players. Very nice gun no doubt, but in terms of monetary value, an Intimidator is a much better investment.

I too was faced with the same dillema... it seems like many moons ago... acctually it was a debate between getting the electro kit for the model 98 or getting a true electro.
Then I came to my senses. Like flash said, the 98 is not made to go as fast as an electro. Sure there is a kit that uses a different valve (I forget who makes it.. the tippmann version is still blow back.) but at any rate... even by adding the electro kit, its still not a true electro. Its still a blow back that simply gets fired by a pneumatic solenoid trigger... total BS. (meaning that instead of your finger doing the actual action, a little pump does it for you... woopy...) Its nice for rec ball, but only if you play a LOT of rec ball. Otherwise its not worth the money.
If you plan on getting into tournaments... then RUN AWAY from the 98 electro kit.
In the end I chose an intimidator. I was going to get an impulse.. but for reasons that would take a longer page to explain, I got the intimidator. Its a true electro. It has all kinds of spiffy features, and it looks nice (IMO). If you have the cash, then I'd say go for the intimidator. Just remember that in buying an intimidator, you'll need to get a nitro tank (u CAN run CO2.. but don't), you SHOULD get an inline reg (vigilante, or Mac Dev Gladiator is what I use) both of those can add quite a bit to the cost.. so just keep that in mind if money isn't too much of an object.
If money IS an object, but you still want an electro, then get an impulse. But this isn't the thread to be giving impulse advice...

most people will reccommend you get an inline reg for the gun and do the LP mod.
Thats what I did. I got a mac dev Gladiator, had the LP mod done when I bought it, and its pretty much been gravy.
You don't NEED to get another reg. Plasma 69 has been running his off of the two stock regs for a month now, and he still gets pretty good consistency. The LP mod will do a few things for you. And its free, well accept that you need to have an inline reg to do it. But there are people who don't have the LP mod and still use an inline reg jsut because it helps with consistency.
I'm sure there is another thread here abotu the LP mod if you really want to know more about it. I'd go into details.. but I'm afraid I haven't the time right now.
OH and as for nitro, if you don't want to get anything too expensive to start out with, then try a Pure Energy 68/3000 or something like that. The steel ones are cheaper, just not as good quality. They will work, they just aren't as good quality.
