View Full Version : Expensive Vs. Inexpensive

Let me start off by saying that I have a Spyder Imagine, and look at my sig to see what all i have on it and what I'm getting for it. My friend is starting a paintball team (amateur) and he doesn't want me on it because I have a Spyder. But say I have a new trigger, delrin bolt, agitated hopper, barrel, nitro, possibly a reg....how much better is an expensive gun going to be than mine? And why is it going to be so much better? I mean if I took all my internals and stuck them in an Impy body and put everything else I have on that body wouldn't people still think I have a great gun? I know Impys, Cockers, etc. are better than my Spyder, but how much better and why?

Yeah, your friend sound like a prick.
Look, just go and play with them.
Pwn an entire tourny team with your marker like I did with my 98c.
BAM! Your the new front man!
Lol, the team I pwned was like that. Everyone on it got picked up because of their Angels and Tricked out Impulses. As a result, they sucked and got pwned by a Tippmann 98 Custom with nothin on it but a CP 12" Barrel... equipment means !

Yeah, I am a front player so if I do well that might happen. But, I still want to know why the expensive guns are sooooo much better.

just go out there and play. i usually shoot a tricked out nasty imp, but that day it was misbehaving (valve o-ring broke, and I didnt feel like disassembling the whole thing on the field). So, instead of not playing, I rented a piranha and went and played speedball.
that was the day I got picked up by a team, not because of how nice my gun was, but because I could still play really good with a crappy marker. not just spray and pray like you can on electros.
EDIT: to answer ur question, the good guns are better because they are generally faster, lighter, more accurate (less blowback), more efficient, prettier, and more compact than liek a spyder or a tippman.

Play with whatever you want to play with, if your good enough then you don't need your punk friend to tell you your not cause of what you shoot.

If you really want to know, the reason higher end guns are betteer is the way they work.
The full electros use pnuematic rams to power them instead of a spring.
AutoCockers are a chapter unto themselves, but the operate Closed Bolt (Meaning the ball is chamber AFTER every shot instead of during.) Therefore, the tend to run a lower pressures and more accuratly because the are slaping the ball around as much (that's the idea anyways).
Basically, all this means that high end guns are better becuase they are higher and guns.
Regardless though, it really dousnt matter what you use.
If you like it, USE IT!
Nobody gets to tell you what would let you play at your best except for you.

they shoot faster and look cooler.
(that's all that would be noticeable, if your gun is upgraded good enough)
kinda sad, yes.

Why did you say that twice?
But it's like spunky and BigC said. Lighter, faster, more efficient, more accurate.
It's not the marker it's the player. You play how you are most comfortable. If you are effective with the spyder then go for it.
This is your friends first team? And they plan on starting in Amateur huh? :eyepop:They plan on just skipping rookie and novice. Tell them not to forget to bring a towel..... A few of them.

its kind of funny how me and my friend got picked to be on one team because we were wearing jerseys. The kid saw us and wanted us on their team even though they have never seen us play.

If you are good, keep the spyder. If you suck, sell it and buy an angel like me spunky and pants. :)

There really isn't a huge amount of difference between the lower end and higher end markers.
What is different, other than the price, is that higher end markers tend to shot faster and have more stability and hence are easier to aim.
They are not more accurate. Accuracy is a measurement of consistency. Consistent velocity, consistent spin or lack thereof. Paintball to bore match helps, because it reduces spin.
In your Spyder, when you fire, air actually blows the bolt back, this causes both a little kick that can throw your aim off, and blows air up the feed neck slowing the rate of fire. Plus, your trigger isn't going to be a short and easy to pull as on a higher end marker.
That said, if you spend $200 on a tricked out Spyder, a $1,000 Matrix, Angel, Impulse, or anything else is not going to be 5 times as good.
Don't get me wrong, when you fire a very nicely made high end marker, you can feel the difference, but it's not exponential by any means.
Having someone not take you on a team because of your marker means that someone is a fool who knows little about paintball.

but just a thought, if you think youre going to get a better gun in the future, dont dump too much $$ into the spyder. I mean go for a reg and nitro, stuff you can exchange to a new gun, but i wouldnt dump too much into a barrel or bolt. My friend has a boomie for his fish, and now hes gettin a new gun. its a complete waste.

I used to be solidly in the high-end electro camp, but now I'm not so sure. The only thing my BKO does better than my old tippy or my sentinel is suppressive fire. As far as accuracy goes, My sentinel is just as accurate as my BKO, in my opinion, and you can still rip @10-12 bps if you really need to.

I think the marker is a very small aspect compared to the skill of the player, for example i got a vl gun from wally world for my first gun and took out guys with cockers and other high end guns. But don't get me rong here, i'm NOT saying that higher end guns are no good, there great if you have lots of cash or play a lot of tournys, but what i am saying is you don't need a high end gun to be good at paintball.:P

aight u cans till use ur spyder hell my spyder felt better then my friends impy. Usually higher end guns are better quality, looks, speed, consistency( accuracy), feel and stock features (ie eyes, clamping feednecks, led or lcds etc
