is the intruder assualt foregrip any good?, what are its strengths and weaknesses and does it work well as an x chamber?

It is an expansion chamber. Works quite well, although if you shoot fast it will get cold. For A-5 users wanting an MP5 look without a remote to tangle or bottomline to look retarded, it works very well.

It will work find on a 98 Custom as well, just get a Vertical Adaptor. I recomend a stock, Pro-Team Solid or Telescoping, to stabilize the marker if you are into mil-sim, if not, then perhaps a t-stock.

is it hard to install? i want to install it myself because the shop in my area charges 25 dollars just to install the vertical adapter itself which is a little expensive considering they can probably do it in a couple minutes

Vertical Adaptor installation is not difficault provided that you are patient and think. Don't cross thread, etc, the aluminum is soft and easily damaged (new valves run $30.00, bodies $20.00 I think...)
REmove things carefully and apply pressure carefully.
Fallow the instructions (it's common sense, but read them through).
