ok here's the deal. I have some money accumulated after refereeing some soccer tournaments in virginia and am going to buy a new gun. I have it down to a 2000 cocker or a classic mag. I have a dye ss and will probably get a spyder to cocker/mag adapter to put it on there. The really big problem is that no one around here fills n2 tanks and i will be forced to shoot co2 through a remote for the first year or two until somebody gets a compressor or me and my friends can afford a used one. What would be the best, cocker or mag, to shoot with this setup.

Mags runny really crappy on co2 unless you have a anti siphon tube and a inline reg. Cockers run just fine on co2 stock.

But of course both will run better on n2.

I agree the only trouble you may run into with your cocker is if you have a barrel with too much porting you will have to turn the velocity up real high in order to get the correct fps.... and the c02 may struggle with having enough output pressure in colder temperature. I have experienced this myself.but with a dye ss you should be ok...

so does a remote act like an expansion chamber in cold weather or will it help at all?

IT helps, cold weather is a problem because a) It will freeze co2 and if you do not have a good reg, exp chamber, or remote it can go into your gun causing all sorts of problem and b) Co2 volume shrinks in cold weather (as where it expands in warm temps) giving you less shots per tank.
