I was chronoing at a field one day with my hand held chrono when I proceded to shoot at a tree a good distance away. I shot once and the paintball proceeded to bounce off the tree come back and hit me in the arm. I stood and laghed but it was wierd.

Uhhh, what was your gun chronoing at? 50 fps? Are you sure a marble didn't make its way into your paint supply?

That's weird-funny.

No it wasnt a marble that would have hurt and it was chronoing at 265 fps. It was PMI paint and it was all thick shelled. Almost none broke for me all day.

Hey something like that happene to me once. I was shooting some 32* crap paint that came free with an order from someplace, and I was unloading on a bunker while advancing for a bunker move when one of the balls flew back and hit my visor and broke! The ref saw it said it counted as a suicide shot and I was out!

not really about bad paint, but bouncing. last week we were playing air ball, and i was sitting behind a can, all of the sudden some guy starts unloading on my bunker, maybe he thought my head was sticking out the top, but the paint was hitting at an angle that it was flying up in the air and raining down on my head, luckily none broke.

super swirl paint has a hard shell. I bought like 200 of those for practice one time, and they catch bounces once in a while on the air ball field. I use 32 degrees competition when I play though, and they work great.

yeah pmi paint does have a really hard shell

diablo blaze also has a hard shell. It can bounce off of you when fired from 6 feet away.

Just make sure you guys arent buying winter paintballs in the summer. Winter has thicker shells summer has thinner. Like polar ice is winter, and I think that alot of 32 degree has some thick shells so they might be more winter too. I dunno. Just my guess.

I dont see how a paintball can bounce off a tree a good distance away, bounce off, and then come all the way back and hit you.:eyes:

Pro Ball. never get it. I got a bag of it cause i needed more paint right. Shot a tree from like four feet away. bounced off. shot a rock from like 6 feet away ( don't know how i did it with my c2k stock barrel) bounced off. shot the ground bounced off. I even shot a guy well tenager in the..... and i poped a little hole. couldn't prove it though. I think 2 balls broke out of the bag.:pissed: Well if you count the other little tiny hole 2 and 1/4.
I was running running about 300 or just a little over.
So Don't Get Pro BALL.

You do realize this defys phyisics, look its all about energy, if an object is droped from one hight it can't reach that hight again unless affected by something other than gravity. Same in this situation it couldn't hit tree and have energy to bounce back.

dropping something and shooting something are different. When you drop something you're not applying any force to it, just letting gravity work. But when you shoot paintballs there's so much force acting on the ball that it could possibly bounce back and forth several times if it were hard enough!

I've had paintballs curve so badly that it did 3/4 of an "O" and nearly hit me. Yes, it curved that badly

Angles can do strange things...Look at a glass. I have dropped a glass off the roof of my house (let's not go into how that happened) and it did not break. But I dropped another glass of the same make and it shattered. The angle was perfect and it shattered.

Theoretically that could not have happened unless the range from the tree was not past half the range of the marker because it would not have enough energy to bounce back unless it got extra energy (say wind was blowing and the ball hit a small tree and the wind stopped and slung the ball back with extra force).

You can simply say, IT WAS SEVERE STANDARDS! and then everyone should agree, those things are like shooting rocks, sure they fly pretty nice but its sad when I have a case of them flying at a tree and they all bounce, ouch.

Anyone else agree that Severe Standards are the answer to shooting hard paint? I think all should. :D

I didn't read this thread..but why do people bring up threads that are over a year old..?

Jeez, who knows man...who knows...maybe the Severes did it? Maybe not

Who looks at threads this old??

TikiMenace

seriously, who cares who looked at the old thread? It was looked at and now has been started up again. end of story

back to bouncing....

I was playing in a semi woody area. One of my paintballs (don't remember what brand i was using) must have hit a branch and bounced. The ref later told me that he felt something hit him on the head. When he looked down he saw that it was one of my paintballs! we knew that it was mine because I was the only person using that color that day.

actually it could bounce back just as far, its like if you took a marble shot a tree ten feet away, it would probly bounce way back behind you, the ball hit the tree long before it lost most of its energy, im sure it could come back, just not with near as much force
