ok, I my dad said i have $1000.00 for a gun. I was looking at angels, but since i'm new, people said I would just dissapoint myself. Should I start with a different gun? If I do what gun should I start with? please post sites for guns I should buy, and please post on this.

go ahead and get an angel if you want it. But what i was saying in your other thread was that you should understand everything about it before you get it as a first marker.

You seemed to have no clue about air systems and hoppers. so get to know what you want and what you are dealing with before you spend the $1400 on equipment.

If you would give me a site I would go look at beginner guns. I dont need an angel, nor do I think I do. A semi-auto would be great. I just want a good quality one. Some time next week i'm going to a paintball shop to ask around and look at their guns an equipment. Just give me a few names of guns and I will check it out. thanks

i gave my advice in the other thread. If youre set on an angel or somthing like that, you could get cheap spyder, and learn to play with that first. It wont be too expensive, and its a great way to learn the basics of the sport. Then when you feel ready, buy the angel or whatever.

Here are some guns you might consider

I think you should learn more about paintball and how markers generally work. For your sake just start with a nice spyder, theyre simple and reliable. Before you even buy a marker go paintballing to make sure you enjoy it.:)

I've been paintballing before. I loved it. It was so funny my friend had our only grenade and dropped it, so it blew paint all over us. I enjoyed it. I found a ICON-E Electronic marker for $120.00. heres the site http://www.pbfanatics.com/itemdesc.asp?CartId=14517498GIHS-ACCWARE-M59&ic=ICON%2D001%2DBLK&tpc= it looks like it would be good for me to start with. What do you guys think

I think you need to get an automag.

Automag 68 Classic - $270.00
Nitroduck Air tank - $170.00
Motorized Hopper - $30.00 or so maybe more.
Mask - $30.00 to 40.00

Grand Total - Arond $510.00

An automag even though I'm starting out? Why not that $130.00 gun so I can play for a few months to get better and get the concept of the game. I think its a spyder, so its pretty good right?

If you dont want a mag so soon then buy a Tippmann its 120 dollars and can be thrown and it wont break..

Get a Spyder Imagine. I just recently recieved mine for 120 at paintballwizard.com. Its a great quality gun and easy to upgrade. Use all that other money to upgrade. Learn more until you go to the high end guns. If you want to, you could look at the high sypder models such as the Electras or Fenix.
Learn everything you can before you pick one.

I would get a spyder then buy a real nice hopper air tank and barrel. because then when you buy your new better gun all you have to do is buy a new barrel or a thread changer to be ready to play. Thats my plan at least.

Do you have a prefered tank size? how long should the barrel be, and should I get the light weight ones i've been reading about? I found a 12v electricc feeder. It looks pretty good to me. If you have any prefered brands for the stuff you said please tell me, and I will search for the site who sells them for the best price. Thanks

awesome i found a Dye Ultralight Barrel. Would this be good for the Spyder Imagine? I was thinking of buying the 16oz tank for it. So i have a good hopper, an upgraded ultralight barrel, and a 16oz tank. awesome this should be good for me to start out.

My advice is to get yourself a nice beginner marker like a Spyder or a Tipmann. The reason I say this is because if you show up with an angel or cocker of some sort they will lump you in with the advanced group. Sure you might be able to build up your skill faster but it's gonna hurt. You should walk before you run.

As for a decsion on either a Tipmann or Spyder read the sticky at the top of this forum. That will give you the best profile for both so you can make your own decsion.

As for my personal prefrence it's of course the spyder. It will give you more experiance with cleaning your marker and more accessories are made for it than the Tipmann. But while your getting a basic marker you will want to get some of the higher end goodies to go with it for when you decide to upgrade. As for those go with some of the suggestions others are making here. In your budget also factor in things like pod packs (a 4+1 is typically all you will ever need) Jerseys, Pants boots knee pads neck guard and other protection equipment like a cup. Even though it's often overlooked it is quite important. After all it should be YOUR decsion if you choose to procreate. Plus I'm sure it hurts like all heck when your hit by a ball traveling at about 200 MPH.

Your budget may seem large now but when everything is added up your gonna come close to it. So as they say dont blow all your cash in one place or on one item. Make your self a list and shop things around. It also does help to get in with the local independant shop in your town. You will find they typically have the best service, best advice and sometimes suprisingly the best prices.

Oh and one last thought buy your compressed air "nitro" tank now along with a nice large 20Oz CO2 tank. That way if whatever field you go to has free refills on either gas you can take advantage of it.

I found some pretty cool spyders for some really good prices. I'm still looking for a cheap loader. Aren't electric loaders better? Might as well get one of those. I heard V-force masks are good, and I found one for a good price. I'm still looking for a 14' barrel. Thanks froggmann, Now I can look back at your reply and buy what I need. Thanks again. Auto-cockers are way to expensive for me to begine with. I don't think I should start with a $500.00 autococker, although they look cool. Maybe a few months down the road I will Shead out the money to get one. Thanks again all for your replys. They all helped me.

dont dump too much money into your first gun if you plan on upgrading later. Like dont wasted $100 on a boomstick for a spyder. You can get things like a Nitro tank, and a good hopper, and i would call it at that for now. I wouldnt get a reg yet, because some of the guns you might consider later may come with a good one, or not need one (mag).

For hopper, i would suggest a Rico AK or an Empire Reloader.
For a Nitro tank, Center Flag, Crossfire, and the ACI Bulldog III are all good tanks. A good size is a 68ci, and 3000 or 4500 psi (depending on how far you can fill them at your feild.

:agree: this would be a good idea its very basic (at least i think it is)

if you do get a automag make sure its the RT(or a new barrel mags dont come with barrels

:(

if not i would go with a spyder imagine w/ empire reloader or halo b(the halo b is good w/ all guns:) ) nitro tank and 20 oz co2 tank :)

I Think this would be a real good setup. eventhough you are a beginner, I have a automag, and although mine is upgraded, they are very simple guns. if it has the quick relase for the valve, it takes maybe a minute at most to take whole gun apart. only one twist screw. Also, you dont have to worry about cocking it. soon as you screw in the nirto it automatically cocks itself. the setup mentioned would be great. although i am upgrading to an angel my self this week, it is not by any means because i am not happy with the performance of the automag, i am just wanting an electro. My dad is going to use the automag because he loves the simple design, yet awesome performance. Tippmans are great guns also. i have an upgraded one with a r/t trigger, double trigger, dye xcel barrel and it is a wonderful gun, but if you get the automag, you wont have to buy another gun later if you want a faster gun, because there are so many upgrades avalible. i hope the advice helps, and by the way i am selling the tippman listed above, so if you are interested drop me a pm. and maybe we can work something out.

on hopper dont get the vl reloader hopper the shells or outside case of them are thin and people have be complaning they break realy easy.the relaoder hoppr by empire have been having problems with the main board.they will ether not turn off or on.if you go with c02 tank have local pb store put an anti siphon tube in it to keep liquid c02 out of your gun.also and on\off drop or vavle on your tank will save the o-rings on your gun.it also make it easer to take the tank off your gun at the end of the day.nice tip is find a cheap suitcase or tote with wheels.make it nice and easy whe nfilled with paint and your gun to pull it.

don't go for the spyders. Honestly for a beginner i'd recomend and tippman model 98 with an e-bolt kit. I think they sell kits like that already assembled. There you'll have the reliability of the tippman and all the speed you'll need for a new player. I played for 5 years before getting my raced freeflow. You may also want to think about getting nitro upgrades for the model 98 and getting a nice nitro tank because eventually you'll want a good nitro tank for a newer better gun. Same thing applies with a hopper. Why not go the extra mile and buy a halo, you'll need it later anyways so just get it now.

get an impulse. they are high end but not 2 high end. i know a website with the best deals of impulses. go to www.e-paintballoutlet.com and get the impulse with vert reg college pack stage 2

If you know you already love the sport I wouldn't start out with a lower end marker. Someone said you should learn the basics with a lower end gun first. Well why not learn with a higher end gun if you have the money? I know someone who had a spyder and got an impulse and at their fast tourney with it they hit 3X more people than with the spyder. I would get this if i were you:

[

Rat Impulse(either Jr. or Rat) Jr-$525, Rat-$725
Halo B $120
68 4500 air system $199.

You should start out with a reliable but cheap marker to get the feel of the game some kind of a spyder like a shutter or something then trick that up.. but dont put too much money into it once you have a feel for the game you should upgrade to a angel or autococker.

plushdragon

it up to you what gun you want to buy.a spyder.jt,pmi, tipman or dragon mec guns are the easiest to clean and take care of.If you add an electro frame then you added a pc board and a solinod that could fail or need adjustment. Also what your going to be doing with the paintball gun wil help you when you buy your first gun.if it mostly woods ball then any mec gun will do because it mostly one shot or a few to take soemone out.If it speed ball then your going to need a eletro frame to toss some paint.

id suggest a autococker, reliable, fast, lots of upgrades

a invision or proteus with thermal or double lens

a empire reloader

hpa or co2 with an anti siphon

and a boomstick

thats pretty much all u need that way all u have to do is upgrade the cocker after if u want to

do u have a good understanding of guns cause the autococker is complicated at first but after time its easy, spyders are really good starter guns but after u will want more stuff like barrels, regs, and bolts then a new gun so its sorta cheaper to just get the cocker and to learn more from ur proshop or on pbr

jonbob
12-31-2003, 05:58 PM
Whatever gun you decide to get now, make sure the upgrades you buy for it can be used on a future gun (don't buy a spyder-threaded boomstick). Nitro and motorized loaders are always a good investment, but make sure to spend at least 50 bucks on a mask (go ahead and spend more if your budget allows).

I would not get an impulse as your first gun. They are complex despite what those other guys said and it's debatable as to whether they're the best for the money (go cruise the electro forums for that). At the most I would get an automag or low-end cocker, but spyders and tippmans are great. Also, don't get the e-bolt kit for the tippman unless you're really in love with the gun. The e-bolt makes the gun cost like 400 dollars and if you're gonna spend that much you should have gotten a better gun.
