View Full Version : Flatline vs. ???

I'm new to this forum, but not to paintball. Currently I'm 16 yrs old and I began playing paintball in 6th grade. At that time everyone had a rented Stingray but a few guys had semi's. I switched schools two years ago and have been out of paintball, but I just found out there are some guys that play some rec-ball on his grandparents land. I enjoyed outdoor ball more than indoor ball anyway. Back to the subject, I'm actually going to buy a gun and I'm pretty much set on the M98 Custom. I've found a deal for 260 (no shipping charges) that comes with the marker, 200 rnd hopper, 200 paintballs, plug, squiggie, coiled remote, 4+1 harness (4 tubes included), 20oz CO2, and a JT nVader Thermo Mask (yes, I'm sure it's got a thermo lens) as well as some orings and the little allen wrench set. First of all, is that a good deal? And what about the mask? I can choose from a few different masks for a little more money.
Now for the real question. I am just going to be playing rec-ball outdoors, so I'm gonna be honest with you...I'm gonna use the ****ty *** Brass Eagle paint, but we are just gonna be having some fun, so I wanna keep as much $ in my wallet as possible. What I want to know is what barrel should I get? I've heard good things about the Flatline, and thought it might be good since I'm going to have a large playing field, but I'm not too experienced in installing things like that and I know you need to do a good job on the install to get good performance. I've also heard it's a ***** to clean. I want a barrel that blends accuracy, range, and slience. I want a barrel I can snipe sometimes, but will still slaughter the masses on the front lines. I know some of you will say get 2 barrels, but remember this is rec-ball and I just want one barrel. Some will say why put so much money in this then if it's just rec-ball, to answer that, I dunno really, I'm addicted to paintball and I want some good EQ w/o shelling out the chucks on really expensive upgrades. I'll probably add an expansion chamber after the barrel so any input on that would be appreciated as well.

that price is good
if you are playing woods go for the flatline
if you are playing hyperball/speedball get a 12" barrel a J&J ceramic or lapco bigshot also the CP one pieces are great

The more I think about it, the more I think the Flatline isn't right for me. I consider myself somewhat of a newbie, and I just don't think I'll be able to install the barrel and get it adjusted properly. I really think I should go with a barrel I can just screw in, but there are so many out there, and I haven't really heard any bad things about any of them. If someone with more experience than me could help me out, I would appreciate it. Once again, I'm going to be playing in the woods, and I want something with good range, but still accurate at close range. I've heard no barrel can compare to the Flatline range but it's not too accurate up close. I also don't want to fool with the Flatline bc of install and everyone says you MUST clean it out throughly after breakage, and since I'm going to be using brass eagle paint, I'm sure I'll have plenty of breaks. I've looked at many barrels, Custom Products, Armson, J&J, Smart Parts, and a few others and I just can't seem to decide. Another thing that would be nice is if the barrel reduced noise and can shoot paint like Brass Eagle paint (i know it's cheap). What bore should I get to shoot BE paint? Are BE small, medium, or large paintballs? Thanks guys.

new BE paint is edium to large
the J&J ceramic is small bore but quite
the smart parts all american is a great barrel for you get a 12'14" it is nice and quite and you can shoot BE paint in it great!
the CP is also a good choice fo a lower cost it isnt that quite but very accurate
also an armson stealth is another great barrel for you nice quite and i think they are medium bore

Thanks trauma, you know ur ****. I think I'm going to go with an Smart Parts AA but I just found out my wal-mart carries the RPS Swirl Shot or whatever and it's only $3 more a case than the BE stuff. I've heard the RPS is a smaller ball but everyone that talks about the Swril Shot says they use an AA barrel with hardly any breakage. One question...what is the difference between the Alum and Stainless Steel AA barrels? Is the ONLY difference the material in which the barrel is made? I haven't done much research on them yet, but it's pretty obvious one is made of Stainless Steel and the other Alum. Which do you recommend? SS or Alum?

That's the thing, there isn't such thing as "there rec sport paint" (not trying to be smart ***). I play on some private land. We bring our own stuff. In my other post I mentioned I just discovered Wal-Mart now sells RPS Super Swirl. I've heard some good things about it and it's around $30 for 1000 rounds. I live where I either buy from big WAL or buy on-line, and it's not that I don't buy things on-line, I got my gun and I'm gonna get my barrel on-line, but I'm worried that many paintballs will bust in shipping and most on-line sites that offer paintballs don't have any promises that your paint will arrive unharmed. There is a little shop here in town, but they sell 2 kinds only, one type is like $65 a case and the other type is $90 but it's been a few weeks since I've been in there and I forgot what kinds they were. Just outta curiosity, how much do those other kinds of paint cost in your area? And incase someone else answers this question, please don't give me any on-line prices for paintballs, thats not even an option unless they have a guarntee or something.

the only difference between stainless and aluminum are weight and looks
get an aluminum barrel to save a bit of weight one isnt more accurate over another

What should I pay for an Alum AA 14" barrel? Cheapest I've found so far is $79.95. BTW, is that RPS Super Swirl very good paint?
