Have any of you ever used (or know anyone who has used) a laser sight on their paintball gun? ...that is, the kind that puts a small red laser dot on the target....like you see in the movies. They are only like $30.
It seems these would be very cool.
Perhaps, the red laser would sometimes give away your position it was dark and dusty.

First off, hardly any fields allows them.
They definately give away your location and the red laser really annoys people and some people can get instant headaches from the laser shinning in the eyes.

I don't see the need for sights on a paintball marker, even tho I was thinking about getting one at one time, just because you have to take the time to actually use the sight to aim, which in a hectic game, you won't have time to do. You'll probably get elimnated before you fire a shot off.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Laser sights would certainly give away your position. I use a red dot sight and it works great. Instead of putting a red dot on your target, it projects a red dot on a lens - so as your looking through the scope at your target, you see a red dot on that target through the lens. This way, you don't give away your position, and your still able to scope in your target.
I think scopes are useful, depending on the type of games you enjoy playing. I like playing in wooded areas, and use stealth and strategy to get closer to my opponent. If you use a scope at 30-40 feet, it's going to be dead on. At about 70 feet, the ball drops about 3 inches from where you put the red dot, so it's not entirely accurate.
It just depends. If you play some really intense games where everything is happening all at once, it won't work very well because you have to take another split second to scope in your target. If you play games that take some time, then you'll have time to scope in the enemy.

wouldn't a regular red-dot site (the kind you suggestion that allows you to see the dot only in the lense) also give you position away as it has to use some sort of light to make the dot visible?
just curious.

No - the light being emitted is very, very tiny. About the size of an asteric *. Nobody would even see it.

if you put a laser sight on your gun its hard to see where it is if the sun is bright, or its not dark enough

red dot sights are LED that are built into the scope and is reflected inside...it is not visable to anyone but you....you have to be looking into it to see the dot....
In my opion it is a much better site than a laser because it can be used in most light conditions.....you can ajust how bright the dot is inside the scope with the twist of a dial.....as a laser gets very difficult to see in the day light or very far away....
You will most likely be spotted by your target before you can locate the dot...

I use a red dot sight, and it is great for the types of games I play (ie--sneaking around in the woods). The red dot that is projected up onto the lense is only visible from directly behing the lense. It is in no danger whatsoever of giving your position away. Not only is it not going to give your position away, it is easier to see than an laser that is actually projected onto your target since the dot is only a couple of inches in front of your eye at all times. Again, the sight is great for most of the games that I play, but in a more hectic type of a game, I don't even try to use it.

Thanks, Predator. A red-dot sight sounds like a decent way to go.
Do you have any suggestions on very good, durable (but inexpensive) red-dot sight?
....Yeah, I think the laser sight idea is bad.

guess I'm not the only person who see it that way.....
also as in any sight the site is only accurate at the distance it is zeroed in at....because the site sits on a diffeerant plane than the barrel and it is where these two projected lines intersect that the projectile will hit as a bulleye(zero).....
Hope I explained that so you can understand.....

Well, I have a ADCO Hot Shot sight. I chose that sight because it has two brightness settings, and it's very durable. If it gets damaged while playing paintball the company will replace it for free, for a year. It's pretty sweet and it makes the gun look really cool.
Check out http://www.shop4paintball.com. It's about 29 bucks. It will totally improve your shooting accuracy too.
