If paintball is so popular, why not make it into an offical Olympic Sport? Is it possible to have Paintball as an Olympic Sport?

I'd like to get your views/opinions/flames :P on this topic.

well because like many sports it has not been around for 50 million years.... soccer baske ball and skiing etc... so I think this is why it has not been adopted.... although as it gets bigger maybe someday we will see it... although I wouldn't count on it...

Like I said in another post. The majority of olympic sports rely on energy exerted by the athlete, with as little mechanical assistance as possible. Much of the force in paintball (sending a paintball on it's way) is produced mechanically, so I dont think it'd qualify

Paintball will be adapted as an olypic sport eventually. With the popularity it is gaining all across the world, especially in europe with the millenium series and all. The way it is played with the milenium series is a great advancement for the sport. Playing in pro sports stadiums that are being packed with non-paintball playing spectators.

Just give it time. Our sport is still very much in its childhood.

That would be great to have it as an olympis sport. Shooting is a sprot, which is propelled mechanically, but paintbal is also a team sport agaisnt another team, so why shouldnt it be a sport in the olympics?

I do not think paintball will become a paintball sport for at least another 25 years. However, i would love to see it be included in the summer X games on ESPN.

the major reason of why paintball is not an olympic sport is because of the fact you got all these *** mothers out there that protest against paintball, people discriminate ue paintballers becuase they think we have no real talent, then u get the @$$ wholes who abuse paintball by shooting houses and such, thats what really pisses me off. so until we get more respect we wont see it at any olympics.

I agree with koolaidman. Archery is a aport, but you don't see gangsta thugs out there smoking weed and getting drunk and carrying a bow and arrow in thier baggy pants so they could make a person flip over his or her bicycle by shooting the bicycle tires as he or she rides by. We have a bad reputation. Now how are we gong to fix it??? Let's see.....instead of sitting on the couch polishing your gun and watching the XFL, how about getting your paintball paintball team, as well as your sponsors, to do something for charity. You know, Habitat for Humanity or visiting an old folks home. I guarantee you will get a spot in the newspaper for that, if not television. Stop complaining and do something about it!! If you want Paintball to be an olympic sport, played competetively worldwide, then it has to be respected. Germany has already outlawed paintball so that means if paintball was an Olympic sport, Germany would be unable to participate. Think about it. Sure here in America we love our guns and nukes, but Olympics is worldwide. You can't just think on the local level. Sure you Republicans out there feel that all guns and nukes are good and other countries suck, but that is the limit scope of thinking if you want something that is not respected, like paintball, to be an Olympic sport. Paintball will never be an Olympic sport in five, twenty-five, even fifty years unless world wide cultural acceptance of paintball is made. A bunch of Americans pouting and saying, "I want my paintball you dumb OTHER COUNTRIES. America is the empire of the world and if we want paitball to be an Olympic sport then it will be. Ha Ha other countries. I don't care what you think" will not do us paintballers any good. Stick with reality you Republican *******s and wake up and smell the OTHER COUNTRY coffee. You need world wide support to make paintball and Olympic sport. So stop shooting people with paintballs!!!

I think that drive by paintballings are a big issue, but I've always found it interesting that when someone gets beaten with a baseball bat, nobody wants to ban baseball. There are just some people out there who believe the sport to be violent, and the only thing that will ever change that is for them to see paintball, or even play it (not likely they will though).

Its jsut the whole idea of people shooting at eachother with guns thart people dont like, thats the only reason. They dont care how carefull people arew, how popular it is, its jsut the fact that peoiple are shooting at eachother, and people tke it the wrong way. People see to think of paintball as guerilla warafre, not a mixture of tag and capture the flag, like it really is. Thats the only problem. Myabe when thewre arent so many real gun shootings in the world, paintball might become more popular with people. We dont get the respect we desereve because of our image, and thats poart of the reason paintball isnt an olympic sport. Hopefull yin the near future, someone wiull recognize the sport, and give it a better name, and maybe then it will become an olympic sport, but until then, we have to wait.

WHY "OLYMPIC" sports are always stupid balls that u have to put in a stupid net, (execpt for running...)

Biathlon is execpted/u use guns

Soccer: Wow soccer is fun, (u just run around with a ball and put it in a net) And its also very violent, every soccer game in Europe as a riots, fires people fighting!!

Long Jump thing/ LOOK IM in the Olympics and I just jump into a sandbox!!!

Curling!!!!! OMG/ YOU JUST PUSH A STUPID ROCK (or whatever its called) into a red Circle!!!! WOW EXCITING!

I think Paintball should be an olympic sport because: You need to be in physical shape, have teamwork, have good tactics, have guts and u have FUN!!!!

I dont want to insult anybody, im just saying what i think,

PS: Snow Board, Skiing, baseball, hockey is good and are good olympics sports!

Too cool guy, like the way you think! We definatly need PLAYER LED ORGINIZATION!!! To get our sport to the top we need it built at grass roots level. Think Little League/Softball style organization. There should be Jr High School teams etc. Pro players should be coaching at the YMCA as well as playing tourneys. Companies can only sponser so many teams. Playing feilds can only do so much marketing on their budgets. When PLAYERS start organizing themselves and pooling resources the Olympics will fall in line.

i think paintball has a level of team work unacheivable by any other sports, and it's newness shouldn't be a factor because snowboarding is really new. snowboarders also have a bad rep, that's why it took so long to get to the olympics, but nobody ever used a snowboard for vandalism. well i think its on its way up there though, on the main page in the pb news it said there's a show on fox that'll follows a team through some tourney or something(i forget) and there'll be another show coming out next year. so after it gets this much attention it'll grow even faster. hopefully it's shown in good manner and maintains a good reputation for paintball that's already fairly tarnished. i'd be really siked if paintball made it to the olympics in ym life time, not just because i like to watch it or ever think i'd be even close to being in it, but because i love the sport.

all we need is a big amount of people so we can voice our concern and have paintball included in olympic sports, dont they have like rifle shooting part of olympic sports 2? think about it, they play paintball in other countries, so y not, brazilian paintball, american, canadian, japanese..well maybe not japenese but u get the point. i could be wrong. the other olympic sports bore me. we need an exiting sport in the olympics!! lets go protest!!!

"DOWN WITH HOMEWORK...UP WITH SKIRTS!"
oops thats not paintball

there's like 10+ other events that are only shooting, if anything it makes kids think its dorky and mainstream 'cuz its in the olympics, like snowboarding, when it went to the olympics all the new snowboarders became skiers and started that skiing that looks like rollerblading tricks. but i dunno if thats good or not

I think that in order to have paintball as an olympic sport,it should first be recognised as a sport worldwide. Many countries do not consider paintball as a sport,so how could it get to the olympics?

in response to the people talking about how pros should do community service ****:

a lot of the "pros" have real jobs too, so its not like they have an off season to go do that kinda crap. there is not enough money in paintball right now for it to be an olympic sport. i will just be happy to watch it on TV once in awhile, seeing as speedball is one of the most exciting sports to watch. oh how i love watching push. its so tight!

Like whoever said before me a sport has to be highly international Thats why american football isn't an olmpic sport. And snowboarding got in cuz the japanese picked it up. And like TLplus said its a sport that deals with mechanics. I think the guns would have to be standardized in someway shape or form before becoming and olypic sport. and everyonr would have to use the same paint. If paintball could break international barriers( which paintball is expensive to get the 3rd world countries into) and standardize everything I suppose it could become olypic material........

i am thinking of the x-games bc i could see paintball there alot sooner if ever at the olympics but i think that it would be great for espn to pick it up, the only problem is that its hard for cameras to pick up the paintballs in flight 200 mph is pretty fast
