i think spyders are the best first guns for anyone, they are great guns, cheap, simple, reliable, and very upgradable . . . i had a spyder shutter for my first gun

how so? my spyders (mine and my dads) havent had any problems, i dont think i have seen a spyder owner out of a game because there gun is down . . . i dont see how a tippman is more reliable, especially since you have to split the tippman down the middle to clean it, while on my spyder i pull a pin and my whole bolt/hammer assembly come out . . . explain to me the power of the m98 ;)

My spyder never went down and i treated it like poo. In my experiances tehre very reliable, and i just dont like the feal of the 98.

the 98 is for the "snipers" in the world. YOU DONT WANNA BE A SNIPER! And in 5 years, you will probably be able to still find a **** LOAD OF Parts for your spyder.

Honestly, first gun you should get is a spyder. I'm somewhat new also (played about 5 times only) and my first and current gun is a spyder shutter. I haven't had anything wrong with it yet. I recommend maybe puttin a litter more better barrel on it but that isn't even necessary. Go with a spyder!

I am with Venom. Trauma, you never did really say why Spyders aren't as reliable as 98s. So next time you flame something, back it up with some hard facts, not the "every week at the field a spyder goes down!". You could say why it broke or if the owner took care of it. I could say the same thing about 98s because two of my friends each have one and they are both broken. So do tell us again why a 98 is better and more reliable...
in trauma
09-30-2001, 06:14 PM
hte owners take real good care of them and week after week they keep having probs with re-cocking and crap like that
also if you firends have broken m98s they ust not have a phone cause that is all it takes to get it fixed
all the parts can be replaced free from tippmann except for screw and nuts they just starte dcharging for those

My friends are in the process of fixing their 98s. Tippmann does have good customer service. I was helping my friend order a part and fix and clean his 98. I think it is a lot easier to clean a stacked tube blowback than the clamshell style.

They are for the snipers...I think the spyder is best. They can be upgraded to infinity without looking like an *** like M98. Plus, the M98 forgrip is *** like the gun. Spyders also have a better style. They are very reliable too. I have friends that have 98's and spyders, they can bunker with the spyder, but never with their 98 cause they are so long, even with a 2 inch barrel(homemade)

kotowa you can bunker witha 20" barrel!!
that was a stupid comment all guns can bunker people even with long barrels it isnt the gun it is the player!!
so go ahead and spend $3000 on your setup and see if it helps you any

sPYDERS WEAR OUT! They are ok out of the box, but if you play on a weekly basis, there is a good chance that you will end up having problems. I hate spyders because the guys that own them where I play are always having problems with them. Tippmans may be ugly, but they work. The Pmi spyder clones seem to be made much better than the kingman product. If you really want that style of marker, go with that.

The "PMI Spyder Clones" as this guy so stupidly put it do work great. The only problem I have had was a leak at the top of the foregrip, and that was easily fixed. I have seen soooo many spyders go down in flames at my field, while all the Piranhas (about the same amount as spyders) have had almost no problems.
But, chances are, that the Spyders that went down were due to improper maintenance (sp) and pretty much any marker will work great if you keep it happy.

Spyder Shutter. My two cents, and this coming from a guy that owns one. I've had NO problems with it, nor have I chopped even one ball.

wtf u talkin about spyders dont wear out i have a tl i played every sunday for the past 2 years befor june of 2001 and the only thing i have ever had were out is a o-ring and i treated mi gun like crap it only was cleaned when i had nothing else to do till i learnd to treat mi guns good when i got mi cocker so............. and mi freind has a pirana the pmi clone your talkin about he played also 2 years every sunday with his till he got his mag for x-mas and he replaced parts every 5 months on that peice of crap and he still is the sears and hammers where so easy on them. so what im saying is have u ever used or played with a spyder for a good period of time to make this comparison cuz i think not
and as for what gun to get get what fits u im not gonna say spyder or 98 get whats in your range and fits u if u want to get a long thin gun with a solid trigger go 98 if u like small compact and light go spyder so get what u want dont listen to guys go back and forth about witch gun is the "best" cuz there is no "best" gun

Im not saying bunkering with a 20 inch loner "sniper" barrel is impossible, it is just really really awkward. Short barrels, short guns, PURFECT, get in your tight spaces and shoot your *** off.
DONT GET MODEL 98, spyder shutter, it has a crud load of upgrades on it stock, and you can buy a ton more(one of the most customizable markers around) or you can wait for the AMG, I heard that was gonna be nice...

One more word. I loaned my Spyder Shutter to a newbie who shot SAND through the thing. (See the Don't Make the Mistake I did thread) I took it apart, cleaned it. Good as new. This little experiance has testified to MY Spyder's reliability. Let us know what you go with.

DONT DO IT.....
Get anything but that,. try any PMI product or mabey a rebel.
You should go with a tippmann 98, everybody I know that has a spyder has leaking problems everywhere, 98s are pretty much indestructible. Stay away from kingman(spyder) products and brass eagle and you will have more of a worry free paintball hobby. Spyders are made in Taiwan, but tipps are made in U.S. , but if you do want that kind of looking gun get a pmi piranha.

here's my 2 cents. spyder's seem nice, for some reason out of all my friends guns the compact owns the other ones, which are a TL, TL+, and 2 shutters, dont ask me why, and it isnt all the player, that gun just owns. as for how those guns work though i dont think any of them DON't leak, they all bring electric tape everytime we go. the TL+ destroyed a striker, but that was his fault. my friends tippman's work great considering how poorly they maintain them, but those guns have a horrible barrel, i dont even worry about cover when its me vs a tippman (stock of course). i really recommend any Enigma (bargainpaintball.com) affordable and very nice, reliable gun. if you get a spyder, make sure its steel braided, their macrolines lick. if ya got anything out of that, good for you, basically i recomend enigma though.

LOOK listen TO me. I own a M98
Do not get one...they are ugly low rate of fire unless you get upgrades (like i did, and it cost a fortuon) I hate the gun...my pmi trrace s/a kicks its ***...and i planed to use the pmi for back up.. Dont get m98 people say its good cuz they feel bad about having one so they say there is good so you buy it and share there pain.

i like my m98c
upgrades are cheap you can get a double trigger + guard for $16
people say its ugly but i find my gun to be a beaut
i find guns like the angel, spyder to be f|_|cking ugly
m98 comes with a nice adjustable sight which i love since i dont like to spray and pray but rather aim at people and shoot
the forgrip is nice for balancing if you have a heavy tank.
i've never had a spyder so i cant really say anything about them but i have a friend in canada who owns one and he told me he his gun jams at least once a day of playing.
If you can I’d recommend going to a local field and testing out some guns to see which one you like that’s really the best way to find a gun for your playing style.

I beg to differ, I have a M98 (not a custom unfortunately, I got mine before the custom came out) and I am not a sniper. I'm not afraid to go out and shoot some paint out of it on a speedball field :D I also realize this gun isn't for the "longball" type player cause it has limited range.
Also, the M98 may not be the prettiest guns out there, but they are realiable, only god knows how many time I have dropped mine and it still keeps ticking ;)
I think the M98 Custom is a good beginners gun. All you really need is a new barrel, and you're set to go out and enjoy a day of paintball, and when you're ready you can upgrade it to the way it fits your playing style.
I know not all the people like the M98, but lets give it a fair chance.
Just my $0.02 worth of opinions :D

m98s may be "reliable" but who is to say a spyder isnt? spyders and spyder clones get my vote, i have a rebel with a bit of aftermaket **** on it, and i have had no problems, except for a busted cup seal, which is not at all uncommon....
Plus the m98 is UGLY
