hey i am wondering what velocity is i have an idea but im not sure

How many feet per second your ball is traveling is the velocity. The standard is 280~300.:)

EDIT: If you don't know what velocity is you should not be playing! It is not safe! OMG.

velocity is the speed of a projectile moving in a given direction.
