Hey guys, I've been posting things on here that are kinda similar to this, but my specific questions haven't really been answered. I'm buying my gun and barrel by the end of the week so I'm gonna be more specific.
I am going to be playing in the woods all the time. Never any arenas, however, we do play our version of speed-ball, but that's only at the end of the day if we have any paint left. I am somewhat of a sniper but not a camper. I shoot selectively and prefer picking them off over face to face combat. It sounds like the flatline would be good for me except I've heard it's not really accurate at long range. It can go the distance, but it can't hit the spot. I am looking for a barrel that meet these requirements(in no order of importance):
-Quiet
-Easy To Clean
-ACCURATE!!!!
-Some range, but I want accuracy more than distance.
I have looked at many barrels including Custom Products, Smart Parts, Flatline, J&J, Equation, and a few others, however, I'm not limited those. Please tell me which barrel you think is best for my situation, don't limit it to the brands above. I have tried to look up information on many barrels and I've read most of the barrel reviews on this site that pertain to barrels other people have suggested so far. I'm just so inexperienced that I don't really know what I'm looking at, and the thing about on-line reviews is that you don't know if they installed the barrel properly (flatline) or how well they take care of the barrel. I'm not partial to any of those barrels, but I want one that I will be happy with.
In summary, I want a barrel that can provide range and accuracy and I'm willing to give up some range for improved accuracy. I don't want a loud barrel, and it's ability to self clean/ease of cleaning with a squeegee is very important. I will be shooting "cheap" paint since I live where there aren't any descent priced Paintball Pro Shops. More than likely I'll be shooting RPS Super Swirls or Visual Impacts, and maybe Brass Eagle (the higher grade ones which are smaller) from time to time so please keep the bore sizes in mind. Thanks for any advice on this as I'm really worried about what barrel I get because I want to be pleased with it.

First things first, I'm going to list three potential barrels. I've personally played with only two of these.
Lapco Autospirit (what I'm using now) Armson Stealth (one of my best friends is using one) J&J Ceramic (The one I haven't used, but have seen in action on other guns)
Of these three I would recommend the J&J for what you want. Ted's Stealth is really quite and he is deadly accurate with it, but it's also really expensive for what you get; and, he seems to break a good number of balls in it, whereas my Autospirit hasn't broken any. Also, the portings kind of hard to clean. The autospirit is great, and I would have recommended it, but it is loud, and noise was your first criteria. The J&J is nice and quite, accurate, and is suppossed to shoot itself clean very quickly without a squeegie.
I hope this helps. BTW, for aesthetics, if you go with the J&J might I recommend you get a Silver or one of the anodized M98s in order to try and match color. :D

i suggest the J&J ceramic too it isnt shiny and will be hard to see it is nice and quiet also with ath small -medium bore paint you will be using it will be fine
my J&J ceramic is incredably accuate with a good paint match
they are abour $40 everywhere and a worth alot more than that

I would also recomend the J&J Ceramic barrel. I have one on my 98 Custom and it works really well for palying in the woods. It's not shiny, it's easy to clean, very accurate, and it's pretty easy to clean.

So this barrel WILL work well with Super Swirls, Visual Impact, and the smaller Brass Eagle balls?
What about scratching since it's ceramic? Will this be much of an issue? Same goes for the inside of the barrel? Will I have to be extra careful cleaning it out?

it isnt ceramic
it is an aluminum barrel with a ceramic coating and there is teflon injected into the pores of hte ceramic coating

the best barrel I have ever seen perform on a tippmann (out of boomsticks, flatlines, ceramics, and Stealth's, etc.) is the Smart Parts All American. Here's some reasons that help make up your mind
1: **Company** It comes from a really good company like Smart Parts. Whenever you buy something from smart parts, it's gotta be good.
2: **accuracy** The accuracy on a 16" All American is unmatched. I have yet to see anything that can match it's performance. On my gun I can pick people off in one shot 150 away. It's mind blowing. I have trouble not hiting people with that barrel :) !
3: **Cool Factor** The J&J Ceramic in my opinion is horribly ugly but does perform well (no offense to the Ceramic owners). THe Smart Parts All American in black looks very cool with the m98. It gives it a reall sniper look. and a cool factor. People are scared of my gun on the field.
4: **Range** This is a factor that the Smart Parts AA does not quiet shine in. Mind you, It does have very good range! but it won't shoot as far as something like a flatline or a stealth. But I would choose accuracy over range any day. The range is still ver good with an AA
hope I helped...

Before I started this post, I was thinking about going with the Smart Parts All American based on some info from...none other than...IN TRAUMA (hehe, sry Admins). Some folks said the Ceramic barrel was better, cheaper, and easier to clean, some said the teardrop was good, but mainly I've had so much conflicting advice that my head was spinning and I wanted to start a new topic and make sure I listed the qualities I wanted most. I know the Ceramic and the All American are the same bore so I should be able to use PMI Premium in either barrel. I do care more about accuracy than range, but the looks don't matter to me that much. I'd rather have a barrel that performs and looks like a big piece of **** hanging out my gun, than a barrel that intimidates but shoots like a big piece of **** hanging out my gun. Please keep the advice coming in. What's the difference between the Smart Parts All American Teardrop and the Smart Parts Teardrop barrels. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about, but if you goto the reviews section on this site, there are both types of barrels (AA Teardrop and Teardrop).

From what I've seen at the fields, and my own experience, Smart Parts makes some really great stuff. It's generally very reliable, and very high quality. My only reservation is that Smart Parts generally seems to charge a lot for what they sell.
One possibility might be a "The Freak Junior." It's at County Paintball for like $87. It only comes with one insert, but you can buy others as you feel you'll need them. In my opinion, if you want to spend close to $100, this is probably the way to go.
Smart parts barrels are much better IMHO than a J&J.
My teammate used to have a 98, he had a boomstick on it. It was amazing. The boomstick is made for RPS, but the barrel does come in different boresizes. The barrel does perform, but it is expensive.
If it did come down to J&J or Smart Parts though, I would buy the smartparts, but that's me.

I would probably go for either a J&J or a Lapco Bigshot.
I own the Lapco Bigshot and it is incredibly acurate. I have tried the J&J Ceramic on my tippy and it too is acurate, more silent than the Lapco Bigshot. Also how much are you willing to spend. Both these barrels are at a great price. You can't go wrong with these.

I would say the All American. Personally From experience in using these they are wonderful. They are very accurate and are quieter then the boomstick that I have. If you want to play in the woods and be a umm "distanced player" (shooting people at longer ranges while maintaning a quieter status) this is defeinately the proper barrel for the job. And just for clarification I have a 14 in. boomstick and a 16 in AA. Both are very accurate but when I can I like using the AA for the silence it creates.
And it is very easy to clean.
So this is what I would suggest but I do know that there are alot of thngs to consider. AA's are generally a little more expensive then other barrels, but all in all the other barrels that have been listed are good barrels as well so in the end it comes down to what you really want.
Happy hunting.

I'm kinda leaning to the J&J merely for the price difference. I also like that fact that it seems to self-clean after a few shots. I'm a "weekend-warrior" so I'm not playing like every weekend or anything, and when I do play it's just with friends in the woods. I'm 16 and trying to save for a car so money is kinda an issue. I may go with the All American, but the J&J seems to be the more practical choice.
One thing, in trauma, I read a post on the Barrels and Paint forum and you said that if you use anything besides small bore paint they will break and jam in the Ceramic barrel. What is the bore size of PMI Premium...that's probably what I'll be using. That or Super Swirls.
Of the "cheap" barrels, do any really compare to the J&J Ceramic?

I have a j&j and I like it. I have shot many brands of paint (viewloader, brass eagle, 32^competition, 32^ team colors, Big Ball, and Pro Ball) and of various sizes without any problems. I shot about 8 cases through my barrel without any breaks. I all my breaks have been in the breech of the gun outshooting my 12v revy.
There are several good barrels out there. There is a lot more variability in the size and quality of a batch of paintballs than there is between two good barrels. If you ever get a batch of inconsistent paintballs, then your accuracy will be bad even with the best barrel. Hope this helps.:D

Yes, thank you. Thank you all.
Next question though, do you all know of any place running a sale on the J&J 14"? Thanks so much if you do.

I looked on their site, but I couldn't seem to find any info about a special phone order price. Do u think they are still offering that? If they don't have it on sale any more, do you know of any other place?

The flatline barrel is as accurate as a paintball can be at long range. The only more accurate barrels i've shot are the armson barrels but they are hard to clean and dont have the range of the flatline. Buy a tippmann with the flatline and enjoy it. You might have to tweek it a bit when you get it some ppl do some do not.
here is my tippmann setup
98 custom
flatline
rt trigger
armson pro dot sight
lp setup
pmi front reg
pmi bottomline reg
ballistic drop
pmi 68 4500 tank
12 volt rev

Everyone says the flatline is not accurate at long range butfail to think that long range with the flatline is much farther than they have ever shot a paintball. So there is really not an apples to apples comparison.

I generally call 888paintball. They seem to be very competitive when you call. They had the 32Deg. Night Stikk for 39.99 listed on the site and I got it for 29.99. Not bad.
BTW: the 32Deg. Night Stikk is a really nice barrel. You might want to check that out too. I haven't broken a single ball and it is pretty darn accurate.

32* whisper...awesome! Best barrel for the money that i have ever seen, i am actually considering one for my cocker! Oh and its VERY quiet, cant be heard unless its like right next to the gun. Its a sweet barrel for only 50 bucks. Thats what i would get. Oh and it even shot nice with View Loader paint:eek:
