I like paintball; I like driving home with bloody and bruised welts all over my bodies, and with memories of taking out 4-5 people with my trusty pump gun; but I don't like driving away having spent $40 just to get 500 paintballs, and 2 hours worth of play... although I guess I could have been smart about it and saved the 250 I didn't shoot off during the main games. Even still, I've heard about airsoft from my University, and even though i had mixed feelings about it, i decided to join up and give it a try. Depending on how things go this weekend, my first game, I may come runing back to paintball, or just find a new pasttime (although I'll still paintball, just not as much).

Even still, the primary concern is $25 for a semi realisic looking weapon, and a game that plays more tactically similiar to the cool part of my job as an army reservist. I guess it's like another one of those Japanese things (even though I'm not sure where in Asia airsoft orignated from) that's kinda more wellthought off than American. A game that lets you shoot at people without injuring them to the point where they dont come back for cheap... who knows, maybe it will suck, maye it will blow paintball out of the water. Alls I know is that rather than spending 50 bucks to play 3-4 hours of paintball and be reserved with my ammo, i'll be spending 20 to go completly trigger happy...

airsoft is dumb, its completely different than paintball

if your poor then dont play paintball, its an expensive sport plain and simple, if you cant afford it then dont play, your loss.

airsoft is cheap because its stupid, its glamorizes shooting people with real weapons basically. eventually that orange tip is gonna wear off and hopefully you get shot by a cop for being a moron and playing the stupidest game ever invented. look at me im a big fat nerd with my 1337 SWAT outfit! wo0t!

this wasnt a direct flame, its directed at airsoft in general. no offense or anything. and i when i say "you" i am aiming at the average airsoft player

I finally can somewhat agree with pr0k. (this is a rarity)

airsoft is a pitiful excuse for a "sport". As you can tell I use the word sport VERY loosely. Paintball is a tough enuf sport when dealing with cheaters who wipe or don't call themselves out. How the heck are you supposed to deal with cheaters in airsoft? You can't prove that you hit them, because it doesn't hurt.

However in paintball like you said, it leaves a mark.

Yeah paintball is expensive, and that vexes me to no end, but I'd rather play a sport that could possibly make me some money in tournaments, or a sport that might be considered an X-Game.

You know, a sport with a future.

Airsoft has no future in the mainstream world. It will always be seen as a war-game. Sure it might be fun for a while, but wheres the glory?

we already have enough problems with people saying paintball trains you to kill people, airsoft actually does it. airsoft is mainly used to simulate shooting at people, and 25 bux is a lie, that thing first off cannot shoot past 30 feet, its made mainly of plastic, and its inaccurate, for a decent airsoft gun you need to spend more than a spyder shutter. people who play airsoft are first off mainly gun nuts (yes, it is true) and imo losers LOSERS! play paintball!!

I dunno. I've always wanted to try airsoft, but I know I'll prefer paintball. Still, it could be cool, except that you'd never know if you got someone out. I personally like leaving big bloody whelps on people's bodies. And since I'm a kinky masochist, I like getting them too! Wait...don't read that last part.

Heh, You won't believe how much a good airsoft gun can cost. Last time I played airsoft some guy with a $1200 Sniper rifle capped me on the hand...lots of blood.

LMFAO. Paintball is the best. Airsoft guns are VERY inaccurate. Paintball markers are accurate(most markers). Paintball is SO MUCH MORE FUN than Airsoft. My point: Airsoft sucks.

Ender

Airsoft:
-Accurate (a ton better than paintball)
-Cheap
-Look and operate like the real thing (clips with only 20-30 rounds)

Paintball:
-Inaccurate (balls of paint...)
-Unrealistic (200 round hopper, come on)
-Expensive (rip off)
-guns look like a cheap sci-fi movie gun

Almost all facts. Having people cheat thrown into the variables of discussion totally doesn't come into effect. If they cheat, they cheat; both in paintball and airsoft

in comment to porkchop, you don't want it to be as realistic as it can be? SWAT or guys running around in colorful uniforms? you can pick.

Ender

PS. I'm sure Ramius will have something to say about this.

Ramius

In my opinion it all comes down to money.

2000 paintballs = $60
2000 .2g Airsoft BBs = $4
(rough numbers)

I personally don't care which I play, paintball or airsoft. If you want to get the real life S.W.A.T. effect, or you think your going to be part of the Brittish SAS I would go with airsoft. Realistic guns with realistic capabilities.

If you want to play more of a shoot em up game I would go paintball. Sometimes you just need to plaster someone with paint and make them cry. One other advantage of paintball is the pain of being hit. This pain often keeps players from using stupid suicide strategies that spoil everyone elses fun.

If you are playing for strategy alone, go airsoft. If you want strategy with the joy of making somebody else's life miserable, go paintball.

Ramius has spoken...

well said, Ramius. I totally agree.

You can get 2000 round "hoppers" for airsoft, just like you can get "clips" (for the ATS markers or whatever it was) for paintball markers.

We wear colorful clothes for a reason. We don't pretend to be war heros or Steven Segal, We leave that for our kids...We don't pretend it's real war. I think a nice JT jersey looks a lot nicer than a camo suit. and piss off our forums if you love airsoft so much;P

id rather be shot by a paintball than a bb. and an ak47 can only go 20 feet, is miniature, the proportions arent real, and its all made of plastic, how real is that? a good airsoft gun still costs well over 500, and thats just for a decent one.

Ebonclaw
10-04-2001, 01:56 PM
Ok, those little miniatures don't count as airsoft guns. you can get full size ones. And have you heard of the Super 9 Sniper Rifle? It's like 120 bucks on ebay and apparently shoots real well. Spring loaded. 419 fps. Any questions? It even ejects casings like the real thing! How cool can you get? Still, I prefer paintball, mainly because at least you can tell when people in paintball cheat.

you morons dont get it!

paintball isnt meant to be realistic. if you want realism play airsoft, or better yet play with real guns, then you can die just like the real thing! then everyone is happy because all the morons are dead and you got to experience the realism of war!

i play paintball for the sport of it. paintball guns are not made to look like real guns, they are sports equipment not weapon replicas.

Well, I for one like to play paintball as war sometimes. It makes me realize that when I get hit, hey, game over, I lose if I were in a war, and gives me a sense of what Vets went through. Sometimes you really get something out of playing it like war. A better grap on reality and life. Now, I'm not saying start thinking like that all the time and stick "Born to Kill" stickers on your gun, but I am saying that I think almost everyone out there likes to play soldier.....of course when you actually do, and you get shot....well...it makes you think. And it's a good thing.

RIGHT ON!!!!! The guns look like sci fi guns because they are made to play not to look like a real gun. We (paintball players) have enough problems with the media and hipies to have airsoft pop up. If you want to simulate war then go to war. Leave paintball alone so we can enjoy the SPORT (notice i said sport).SPORT

i dont understand y there is even a thread lik this, it makes no sense, ur trying to compare two different things, and at a few ppl in here dont even kno wut airsoft is!!!example>someone thinks that u can only buy minatures(how many times were we dropped on our head as a child?)wut im trying to say is, if u want to bag on airsoft, at least learn someting about it first. airsoft guns shoot far, and are very accurate, u jus hav to buy the good ones, they in general are a bit cheaper than most paintball guns, the ak-47 1:1 scale gun is bout 350$(paintball guns around this price 2001 autococker, classic mags, ect.) at I&I Sports, the BB's hurt a bit more than painballs, and do leave a mark, worried that there will be cheaters?the make 6mm paintball BB's that u can use with airsoft(even though they have to get a direct hit on you or else they wont pop, cant hav everything in life)airsoft and paintball are both sports, recreational things, 99.9% of people that paintball dont paintball for a living, i didnt say 100%, i said 99.9%i paintball only cause they dont really hav any airsoft fields near where i live, and i am broke at the moment so u see my dillema.

odd, that sure turned into a big discussion.

People's conception of "war" seems to be horribly horribly wrong. I was watching the video that they have at the airsoft club i joined (don't flame me plz, they offer a discount card to a cool army surplus store) and they're not reenacting anything.

I havn't gone yet, but tommorow, I may go out for the morning to give airsoft a try. Even still, I am convinced that it's just a bunch of guys trying to reenact Rambo or some other hollywood action flick. How i know this, is because this summer, i was on a tactical exercise simulating a real combat environment in a war-like situation; what's more, last week, i participated in another combat situation that was more administrative, but still tactically similiar.

I guess what i'm trying to say is, on thier airsoft video, there was go around shooting things; but i know from my experiences that you may engage the enemy without even firing a single shot.
Furthermore, I agree, with some of you in that alot of these airsoft types are what I like to call "gun geeks" who just sit thier reading up about guns for some reason.

Paintball is alot of fun, and this Thanksgiving weekend i am planning on going to play paintball sometime; but from an economic standpoint, paintball is just too damn expensive. Oh well, either way, i'll still be playing...

like pr0k chop said (ii hav 2 restate this), PAINTBALL IS NOT ABOUT WAR!!! i played airsoft a few times and when i played, when people got shot, they were like "AHHH IM HIT! IM GONNA DIE" or like "KILL EM ALL!!!!!" i find that disrectful to all of the army guys who hav died fightin for their country and actully trying to RENACT that. u wanna talk about airsoft, go to a airsoft forum, to bring it to our pb forums, we are happy lil gamers that love FUN, not WAR

It seems people completely missed my post and the benefits of reenactment......scroll up and read it. You might learn something.

I ply airsoft when im broke and have nothing else to do i think paintball is a hell of alot more fun but im only 14 i dont have the kind of money to play paintball al the time. When i have the cash i paintball when i dont i play airsoft. airsoft doesnt hurt not as much as paintball and with airsoft you realy do hav to go with people telling the truth on if they where hit. all in all i say paintball is alot better

Argh some of you people seriously piss me off
ok here it goes

I play airsoft every once in a while with me and my friends got a few spring guns

I find it to be more appealing to the military type person “like me” but I play more paintball because most of my friends play it and there are no airsoft fields around here

Ok lets compare some facts airsoft guns are authentic replicas of modern firearms which shoot synthetic 6mm bbs they have 6mm paintballs too
Who ever said they’re not accurate is a ****ing moron unlike paintballs the 6mm plastic bb’s are SOLID and with a gun like the psg-1 they can hit people at 100m THAT’S METERS NOT FEET (91 yards for the folks who don’t know metrics) at a velocity of 500fps and they hurt like ****ing hell if you get hit you’re most likely to scream out in pain these projectiles can shatter teeth as well.
Air soft is “THE THING” trough out asia
Its really not a bad sport people just make it look like it by saying it encourages violence and trains people to kill others but we all know those people deserve to be slapped to death
“the same people who want to get rid of violence in video games”
(god damn this free speech thing people can say what ever they want even if it’s the biggest load of rotten ****) and people don’t argue with these ****wits because most of us don’t got jack-**** to say in society because we aren’t adults
alright back on-topic
lets compare the prices of both sports list some prices – all you really need is a decent gun its pricey $300-400 for an AEG but that’s a one time investment once you got that its $20 for 8000 rounds of ammunition (compare that to prices on PB’s) you might use up in a few months. and $20-40 there are upgrades available AEG’s use special batteries which usually come with a recharger and last all day (no co2 or n2) even though there are guns that use a gas called green gas which powers some mid-range guns
the game plays similar to paintball you shoot at other people and work in a team.
so my conclusion is to me all it basically is, is the chance for civilians to be like soldiers and shoot people with gun I think that’s a great thing If you just want action like that and don’t want to join the army.
I like both sports and I encourage my buds to try it out.

Phew did I just write all of that

“Sorry for swearing throughout the post I just lost a little temper there”

Airsoft is different than paintball, and it sounds kind of cool to me. Don't say airsoft is better because paintball is not realistic. It's not supposed to be. (So why are we even comparing paintball and airsoft?)

Scullyvan
10-11-2001, 07:05 PM
They are similar
to me at least, the only major difference is the equipment and perhaps the type of play

PiranhaAquaPhaze
10-11-2001, 09:21 PM
the equipment is different, the fields are different the techniques are different, the equipment abilities are different, they seem pretty different to me...

albert
10-12-2001, 01:58 PM
Yes paintball and airsoft are different... but they are similar too...
I'ts like comparing soccer to football.... similar sports, but obviously very different....

And to whoever said that paintball "Guns" are unrealistic and Sci Fi... they're supposed to be like that... guess why they're called MARKERS.

Anyways, I think both sports are pretty cool (i never played or seen an airsoft game, but I was looking at the guns on ebay and thinking about it before I got into paintball)

I think It might be cool to give airsoft a try.. fader1572 tell us how it goes/went.....

I must admit... airsoft is a hell of alot cheaper then paintball (at least ammo is)... But... you can still say that water guns are cheaper then airsoft....... Pretty much it all comes down to the player.... If you've never played airsoft.... Give it a try, you might be suprised....

EDIT
>> for about 20 dollars....
>> 700 paintballs
>> 6000 airsoft bbs
>> 500 GALLONS of water

>> these are my "guesses" only.... dont quote me on that..

ren3gad3

man, airsoft guns are puss. they feel like some1 flicked you. they look cool and are cheap to shoot, but they don't leave a mark and you want it to hurt. that way you don't get *******es that run all over the place insainlly because they don't get hurt. (sometimes you'll get that in paintball). airsoft is like a realistic version of laser tag.
