Is there a difference between the Tippman 98 custom and the model 98? I have seen the two and they don't seem that different to me as far looks. Am I missing something? Is the 98 custom more customizable? IS the 98c a updated model, are there differences as far as reliability and BPS?

I have one more thing to add. It seems that my gun has a special barrel. I have tried to use the barrel from my other gun called the Genesis, but it wont fit in the tippman. Do I have to buy a special barrel to fit in my gun?

Yes, the Tippmann 98 Custom is an updated version of the T98. The T98 has the gill things towards the front of the gun while the Custom's do not. There are no differences between the 2 with reliability and BPS, but I believe the Custom can support more upgrades.

As for barrels, all guns have different barrel threads. So you cant put a Spyder Barrel on a Tippmann. When buying a barrel, make sure it has the Tippmann threads.

You can change out the trigger on the 98c and it accepts response trigger system. Other than that I think the only difference is the gills, correct me if I missed something.

You can buy barrel adapters for some barrels so that they fit the 98C.

A friend's friend had a near ancient model 98, and if i remember correctly, it's receiver was made out of cast iron. That's a pretty big difference.

Differs in the looks, the custom has less cosmetics, and already has place inside where you can put aftermarket upgrades.
They also has changed some on the trigger itself...oh and I forgot to mention that the trigger guard is not removable on the oldschool m98.
The older m98s are made with metal powertube (what is actually a name for the housing of the valve system).
Otherwise they meant to be the same.
They both have special barrel threads ,but as some one above said, you can buy barrel adapters to adopt your old barrel to your tippy, Howewer I suggest you to buy a brand nu barrel. If you got a tippy with a good barrel, a motorized hopper + you run it on HP then you`ll be good to go.Do some trigger mods, there is a topic about them here.
