Ive got an 03BKO. Its all stock. Im running a HP Crossfire tank. Ive set the regs to the correct psi as described here and in the manual.
Now heres the q's.
1. is it normal, when i first screw in my tank, for the gauge to jump to around 400, then settle back down to 225?
2. is it normal for the gauge to "jump" up when you fire?
i have the input pressure set to about 225, and it jumps to around 400 whenever i fire.
3. it almost feels like there is air coming out of the side of the gun, i cant seem to locate its exact location, but i think its out of the gauge and maybe somewhere else also, normal?
thanks for your time, levi

No that is not normal. The reason why it sounds like air is leaking out the side of the gun is because the solenoid is venting air.
For example, with the HPR set at 225psi the LPR puts out lets say 85psi. Now, when it jumps to 400psi the LPR puts out 130psi(dont really know this just making a point). Well, the jump causes the solenoid to vent.
The problem is with your HPR. I suggest taking the HPR apart and re-lube everything with DOW33(shocker lube) or Lithium grease.

hey impya, i took your advice, lubed the HPR with lithium grease. it seems to have mostly remedied the problem, but, when i fire, the gauge still jumps from about 225 to 275. Is that ok? or should i try something else? the gauge also still rises to about 350 when i put the tank on, after about 4 seconds it goes back down to 225.
any other advice? thanks
EDIT- now it appears i have a leak. i can hear it coming out of the barrel and vert feed. its only slightly, but i know its not the "ocean". eh, maybe i should have left it alone.
i also tore down the whole gun, greased the neccesary parts, didnt seem to help.

put white lithium grease or shocker lube on the cup seal

its called spiking, when your gauge jumps erraticaly. i was having the same problems. i took apart and cleaned the regs 3 times, before i bought a bob long torpedo hpr. she is steady and flows nice with no shootdown or spiking. i never have to mess with adjustments either, unless I take it apart and clean it. 1 good tip to do before you gas up the gun is turn your hpr down to prevent a over pressurize, which would lead to a blown solenoid.and slowly turn it up to your 225 mark. what will blow your noid is when you spike the gauge out of the reading. moral of the story. buy a new hpr.

I would look into a new HPR. Hopefully the new 04 HPRs are better than the past.
Then again, if you dont want to the pay the extra money for a new reg, call ICD. You shouldnt have to pay for a new reg, just because your original one doesnt work.
