there may be something in the threads on either the reg or the ASA or you may have stipped it in the middle... i did that with my cocking rod.... look for flattened threads or small burs or curves in the thread

Well, for fear of something actually being wrong with your threads I advise you to seriously look very hard at the threads on both your ASA and your vigilante. If there are no flaws in the threads I'll tell you what I did (but again, it's up to you to decide whether to do this or not)....
The Vigilante itself has a somewhat dubious record for having threads that are ever so slightly a bit too big for your ASA. On most ASAs you wont have a problem but on some ASAs that are a tiny fraction smaller (the intimidator for example) a vigi occasionaly wont fit easily. My intimidator was the same way and the vigi was damn near impossible to screw in. So I took a pipe wrench, locked it onto the vigi and cranked it in. After having to take the reg off and put it on with a wrench maybe 5 times the paint on the vigis threads has worn off and it now screws in and out easily. Other regs or expansion chambers still screw into my marker no problem as well, the vigi just had to broken in a little so to speak. Like I said, you may or may not want to do this. If something is actually wrong with your threads and you miss it, you're guaranteed to wreck your ASA
