You will need to take out the hammer first adjust your lug shorter or longer. Do you have a threaded timing rod? If so then you need to turn the 3-way rod in or out. If not you will need to adjust. your lug to the 3-way that means taking out hammer eveytime turning it till you have a window. Hope that helps or makes any sense.

Aside from that, you should really ask a local airsmith to make a window.

If it doesn't have a top timing hole, than it's not a '96. It would have to be a '92 or '93 (perhaps a '94). You will have to get an airsmith to make a window. Also, if you don't have a threaded timing rod, then you need to get one. If you're not a real cocker knowledgeable guy/gal, then I'd just take it to intelligent airsmith.

untill the 98s came out, the hole wasn't stock. I had to have both my 95, and 97 drilled for the timing hole.
As for how to set it. Take off the grip frame, the lug will have the hex side acing down, change it, put it back together, try it, take it apart, change it, put it back together, try it, take it apart, change it, put it back together, try it, take it apart, get pissed off, take it to a shop and have them drill it.
Other than that, they time the same, if your not sure about how to do it, read this www.joinme.net/vantrepes/timing

I've got a '95 that has a hole stock.
A machine shop could do it, easily but I'd make sure they knew where to drill exactly.

DasBaldDog: Did you buy it new or used? Also, if it has been anod, you won't be able to tell if it was stock or done later

It was bought new from WGP with a standard black anno.

Weird, every pre-98 cocker I have worked on has had it done after the fact.

Back when the cockers were ordered, all 5 of them had holes already. I suppose that is odd. I should call Andy about that (he's been working on cockers and has been WGP certified since '94, he'd probably know). Until I hear from him, I will assume you are correct.
