when you get one do you remove the stock velocity skrew
Natural Newbie
01-08-2004, 07:58 AM
No you leave it in. But back it out so the face of it sits flush with the body.

why? so you dont lose air? if so could you just plug the hole?
Natural Newbie

Yes you leave it in so you don't loose air. The hole is already plugged by the stock velocity screw, you just back it out more than usual so it doesn't block air coming from the valve.

but there is no teflon tape holding skrew in so umm it is slill leaking wouldent it make it better to seal it better?

No b/c the RVA might not give you control over the entire useful velocity range of the gun. This is especially true with CO2 in hot weather. I use both, stock velo adjuster to get within 50fps or so of what I want and then RVA to give me exactly what I want.

Coenen, you are making a mistake.
The stock velocity screw blocks the incoming air, putting friction on it, slowing it down. This means that weather you are shooting 300fps or 200fps, you are still using the same amount of gas. This is quite wasteful, and is the cause of the A-5's netorious gas-guzzling. The RVA, instead, decreases or increases the length of the rear bolt spring. Thus actually increasing or decreasing the AMOUNT of gas flow. Tippmann reccomends that you twist out your stock velocity screw far enough so that the inside of the power tube is as smooth as possible (no screw nub sticking out inside). This is basically when it is flush against the body. This will make it that no air is used needlessly. Then simply use the RVA for ALL of your adjustments and you will save air.

Except that Tippmanns aren't designed to be adjusted by spring tension. With heavy drive springs in mine I doubt I could bring it below the safe speed limit hence why I use both adjusters.
I know what Tippmann does and does not reccomend, but I also know what worked for me.

That's great Coenen. Maybe you'll change your mind when your 20oz dies after 800 shots and mine stays for 1100. Even with the stock rear bolt spring, the DOP RVA can get the A-5 from anywhere between 150 and 400 fps. I don't see why you would need anything less or more. But if you feel you'd rather waste gas to change your velocity, be my guest.

I pull 900 AT LEAST off of my 20oz thank you very much.
You get greater range of adjustment b/c you are using a softer spring. I am using a HEAVIER spring b/c I need my CO2 to perform in crappy weather. Heavier spring = less adjustable. I tried it Tippmann's way, it didn't work so I did it my way. If it had worked Tippmann's way I most certainly would've stayed with it. Stop trying to muscle in here and tell me what I do and do not know, any moron can read the directions that came with the RVA and spew them back out.
Take your faux33.5BPS and get off my back.

Sometimes when I get really fed up I buy a cigar and sit and listen to the shop owner talk about his life. There's nothing that will make you feel better than listening to an old hungarian who hunts turkey and sells cigars for a livin drone on about women in Europe.

Wow, that argument is going multi-thread now, we shall certainly see, I offered you good luck and I'll offer it again.
Thanks for the support Smegle.
Mr. Jizz Canon do you have what you need to know now? Follow the directions if they don't work(like they didn't for me) use both. Just get it as high as you can with the stock adjuster while still being able to drop a respectable amount below your field's speed limit with the RVA.

You're far too bitter. I suggest you mix yourself a nice malt or hot chocolate or something, it'll relieve the tension.

Think about it, you just said "you people piss me off with your whining" and complaining. then you complain "like blocking me makes me sit in the corner and cry, I could care less what 14yo say about me".

It's called a discussion. When people don't agree about something it's not always bickering and whining, it's arguing and discussing. Korin was disagreeing with Coenen because he uses a different method, but coenen explained that both work in different situations. Then they began discussing how smart coenen is to provide reason to believe what he was saying. Provided there was a little spam in there, but this thread wasn't a real flaming thread till you started mouthing off over nothing at all. So if you don't want a "whine and complain thread"...don't start one.
