stock 98c+compressed air > stock 98c + co2
no, you will not need a reg.
you can screw it in and go.

stock 98C + N2 > stock + CO2
stock 98C + N2 < stock + good barrel + A/S + ehopper
if your 98c is stock, why would compressed air be your first upgrade? 98C handles CO2 well. If you get compressed air, w/o LPK, be sure it has high pressure output, otherwise you will be coughing up another 130 for the LPK. Beside N2 is not a cosmetic change. painting and front grips are cosmetic. N2 effects performance.
For air systems if it were me, I would get A/S first on CO2. If I wasnt happy with that, then a reg. (like a Stabilizer, which works with N2 as well) and in the end if I still wasnt happy, I would go with compressed air.
Everyone has preference, so it is up to you.

i'd go wit what he said i would spend money on upgrades like a barrel loader etc. then once you think its decked out enough you could choose to buy a nice tank then

tank - $20
as - $10-15
maybe reg - $50-$100 + $20 for v/a
$100-$155 dollars for a pretty good co2 setup...
but wouldn't you like to save all the headaches and just use HPA?
like yak said, its all personal pref.
i used to be all for co2... then i used hpa, and i will not go back to co2 even though my gun is fit for both.

I remember this guy, I think he had a flatline for a barrel. I'd say if you don't have an ehopper than should be your next upgrade, then hpa. That's the order I'll be goin in once I get money (which probably won't be for another year). HPA tanks aren't cheap.

your right eryk. It isnt bad for CO2. but remember that the Stab. works well with N2 as well. So, in essence this upgrade is not just for CO2, but for the marker itself.
So, 20-30 for a CO2 tank and 5 for A/s (installed by me for me) so $40 for CO2 isnt bad.
IF you live in a cold climate, you may prefer N2. as Co2 doesnt perform that well in cold weather.
OH yeah, if you get a reg you will need a VA too. so that is another 20-25 bucks.
I am just saying that N2 tanks are very pricey, so I would build my way up to that. and if I wasnt satisfied with the performance of Co2 and A/s and a reg. I would switch to HPA, but still be able to use the same reg. that way the money you spent on a reg will not go to waste.

I think that it really depends on how much you play, if you are out there every weekend, sometimes twice, all year, N2 is a great choice. If you are only out once a month or something like that stick with CO2.
N2 is one of those upgrades like an uber fast professional level gun, a recreational player just doesn't need one. Of course, that doesn't stop many rec players from needlessly spending money on it, but in actuality you don't really NEED it.

it all boils down to personal pref.
like said before by yak.
you will see two sides to co2/hpa
i play at most once every month... maybe twice... but i still use hpa.

Personally if I were going to upgrade I would skip the reg and go straight for a good HPA tank, because not only will it perform better in all weather but if you upgrade to a better gun in the future it will still be useful.

guys, i allready have a good barrel, dbl triggger, and drop forward. my only complaint about the gun now is how the velocity spikes all the time. im going to get a revoloution hopper soon and just wanted to know if i needed a reg to use compressed air.
thanks for all of the info.
and chinese, i sold my flatline because buying good paint for it is way too expensive. plus i realised while playing with it that sniping is hella boring and actually playing the game is more fun. i still dont take back what i said, it had good accuracy at long distances but it just wasnt my style.

A/S the CO2 tank and get an expansion system, cheaper and almost, about, maybe on a good day, as good as nitro.
And get a ReLoader, Revvy licks the man sack, big time.
Glad you had your epiphany about playing in the back, it sucks doesn't it, didn't take long for you to figure it out.

how about instead of listening to us
anti-nitro
anti-co2
people... go borrow an hpa bottle for a day and play with it.
you decide.

Probably the best suggestion in this thread so far. A FINE suggestion to be sure. Do it.

I have a PMI 68/3000 nitro tank that I got for my gun witch doesn't have the LPK but it does seem to run better and velocity spikes are only in the 5-10 range so if you could get a good tank cheap like I did then I'd go for it!

If you want us to help you select upgrades, it would be easier if you have a signature with your current setup in it. At least put it in your profile. How the h3ll are we supposed to know what you have and dont have.
uuuuuhhhh ...dduuuuuhhh....weeeepp..deeee....dodoo...ddeee? (your supposed to read it like you are retarded, it sounds better) :D

when i went to play on saturday i got to shoot some compressed air on a kids tippmann, and i was very impressed with the performance on the chrono. so i guess i will be buying a HP tank, what would you tippmann owners reccomend as a good steel tank that gets at least 700 shots?

A stock 98 Custom works fine on air, but its still bad for it. It was made for co2. I heard something about it being bad for the seal because the gun wasn't made to take that kind of pressure. Get a low pressure kit if you want to use nitro on it.
Coenen

What kind of pressure? It's almost the exact same pressure as CO2 maybe about 50psi more.
Yay, a 68/3K should be about what you are looking for.

yeah, and thats why fields use old stock tippmann 98's with compressed air, and not have any problems with them? coenen is right, the output pressure will be 800 psi on c02 and n2. unless you get a 400 psi tank. i think what you are talking about is how they work "better" on c02 because of something do to with the powertube letting co2 expand. but im not really sure abaout that.
68/3k sounds tasty, ill look for one next time i get to my shop.

The simple conversion for shots per fill with nitro is 10rds per CI on a 3K and 15rds per CI on a 4500.
That puts a 68/3k at around 650-680(it's a rough conversion)
Perhaps a 68/4500 would be better, but they are more expensive and generally come in wrapped tanks meaning you'd do well to get a cover.
The CVX valve system has an oversized gas chamber to allow extra expansion of CO2 therefore increasing performance in crappy(cold) weather. Old 68 Carbines and I believe Prolites actually ran on LIQUID CO2, people got siphon tanks for them...amazing how much things have changed.

I say get the stab, keep C02 for now, buy all the upgrades other you need/want, then after all that, and you have enough money, get the LPK and HPA and have a nice gun. But as eryk said, once you go HPA, you never go back.
