I've played paintball a few times. My cousin is really hardcore, but i dont want a fabously expensive gun like his (WGP Autococker 2001 w/hella tweaks). This is what i was thinking, anybody give me good advice besides this?

These are the guns i have fired
--
Tippman Model 95 Custom
WGP Autococker 2001 With revvy 9v, Dye Boomstick, Heavily modded.
F2 Illustrator

I was thinking of getting this (For my price range)

Spyder Shutter (Red)
Dye Sticky Grips (Black)
Viewloader 9v
ShockTech Drop Forward.
Dye Excel Barrel

I know a master airsmith that can do some work for me, but i'd like to take some ideas to him.
Any other suggestions?

What's your budget? I can give you a good list of upgrades, just so long that I know what your limit is. :) I would have to say that the best person who could possibly work on a Spyder would be Polecat. He can do just about anything you want/need, gives you helpful information when asked, and doesn't give you an attitude. :D

My budget... I want to keep it low. First off, i go paintballing once in a while, otherwise i'd buy my cousins Tricked autococker off of him for $500. So i'd like to keep it low, and add on in the long run.

I know the airsmith pretty well. I'm friends with the guy who owns a paintball field so he can hook me up good. So i'm just wondering what i should look at for aftermarket upgrades to make the gun semi-decent.

Well, "low" really isn't telling me much... Got a specific price budget?

I'd say around $300-$350.

I would say you were correct in wanting a spyder! but don't get the shutter. It is widely known that the shutter is not the greatest gun for the money Kingman has released.
go for the compact 2000, cheapest gun kingman offers, but is known to perform very well. you can get the gun in a parts package (gun,9oz co2,nvader mask, vl200 and elbow) for $130 before shipping over ebay . You can also get this deal in any anodizing colour that you want. I would go for the black or silver, but if you want to go with the red one, you can get it for the same price.
then you'll want a nice foregrip on your gun. Since you will most likely be running co2 for your spyder, you will want an expansion chamber (because it doubles as a foregrip, and helps conserve and help consistency) when running co2. I suggest either a expansion chamber w/ bottomline and steel braided hose (you can buy this on ebay for $42 before shipping charges) or a regulator. I hear a used autococker WGP regulator is great for a spyder. You can get those for around 30 bucks, and those will run much better if you choose HPA.
This gives you a lot of free cash to upgrade your gun. The most common upgrade for a gun like a spyder would be an aftermarket barrel. With the money you have, you can buy any one. A boomstick... or even the freak system (which I wouldn't suggest buying). Then if you want, you can buy a revvy, if you want one. You can buy a sight, if you want one.
Basically, if you shop over ebay, and if you get the Spyder Compact 2000, you will end up with a great gun. Better than any Tippman, and for a cheap gun.

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1014274745 - an example of the gun package (remember, you can get it in any colour)
http://cgi.ca.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1013568333 - an example of the expansion chamber, you will ideally buy.

good luck, hopefully you will make the right descision. Just please don't go with the shutter. if you want one of the higher end kingman guns that isn't electro, go for the Xtra or the TL+... but in the longrun, a tricked spyder compact will be just as good, but save you some cash.

do you need everthing? like mask, hopper, tank? for that much money i was thinkin you might be able to find a deal to get your self into a higher end gun, do you like cockers? i have seen some decent cockers go for pretty cheap. and mags go very cheap, im sure you could find a good deal, check here - http://forums.paintballcity.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=64 good luck ;)

Yeah I would go for a spyder either shutter, compact or maybe TL...or maybe even a tippmanm98....

Here is one BIG piece of advice BUY USED!! except maybe the gun and mask....but buy all your aftermarket stuff used..

Dont get a 9v revy....I made that mistake once.....just get a 12v....(used)
get a nice, non-fog mask too......(new)
get a good barrel cause very1 knows stock barrels suck...(used)

If you buy used this wont cause you much....but if you buy new it could cost you up to $180 way more than you need to spend on those 2 things.......

Bah! Who needs a 'Cocker when you've got a suped up Spyder? ;) Here's what I'd do:
1. JAVA Compact 2000 - $110
2. CP barrel - $35
3. 12 volt Revolution (Black) - $50
4. Palmer Stabalizer - $90
5. TLplus84's trigger job, or mine - $0
6. AKALMP Compact Mitey-Max - $50
7. Macroline kit - $10
8. 20oz CO2 tank - $25
9. Anti siphon - $10

That's just slightly over $350, but then you have a completely working gun, and a great one at that too. :)

I allready have goggles, but no hopper.

I have the Morph Googles. Very nice, i did not skimp on that. But what's the general consensus here? I know somebody that has a spyder compact 2000, and i did not think it was that great of a gun. But a lot of people are saying its better than the shutter?

Bottom Line?

Well, I own a Shutter and have not ahd one problem with it. Some newb I loaned it to even shot sand through it! I cleaned it out, it works fine. My experiance with the Shutter has been most pleasurable.

If you plan on upgrading alot then lean towards the compact 2000 and you'll save yourself some money, but If you just want to play and not bother upgrading anything besides a barrel..then go with whatever feels comfortable to you.

hsuave's got it right, but i'd say you can save a few bucks and get a bob long compact va ($20 at firstcallpaintball.com) over the aka miteymax. or, if you're brave enough, drill out the stock one. one thing he forgot, drop forward (optional, but helps), and a bottomline adapter. otherwise you have all the hoses but nothing to connect em to.:D
