I am a new b to the sport of paintballing. I used to play airsoft for a year but then i went paintballing and fell in love with it. I have been paintballing about ten times and the tippmans that i have been renting arent just cutting it for me anymore. I want something that is gonna give me an edge out there but not be something crazy out of my league. I am good with fixing things and maintence is no problem. I was looking at the Dye Precision DM4 and the LCD Matrix but they are a butt load. I would save up and spend that much but i need to buy the whole deal. Right now i have 800 so i was wondering what kind of setup would you get with 800. Thanks all tips and suggestions will be appreciated.

I dont think its a good idea to get an $800 gun as your first gun....

get something low end, like a spyder or tippmann. maintenance is simple, price is comparatively lower... leaves you enough money for everything else, like a tank, hopper & mask. a good mask at that. a mask should be your first purchase. get one that's comfortable & has a wide peripheral range (JTs, Dyes & VForces are recommended).

next get the marker. try to stay within $200. the stickies at the top of the forum have a lot of good info that may help you choose. the kind of hopper you get depends on what kind of marker you get & how fast you can pull the trigger.

since you've got 800, you can get an hpa tank right off the bat. check the Air Systems forum stickies for the benefits of hpa over co2.

in all, you should spend under $500, which will leave you with enough for quite a few games (paint, field fees, tank refills, etc).

I am just looking to by this gun like once and for all and be able to use it for now on. If the gun isnt the best right now but has the potential with upgrades to kill that would be a good choice too. I want flexibilty with what type of games that I can play with it. Money is not an isssue i can get more if i need it i just have 18 at the moment. The higher end guns like the dyes i really like for the fact that they are supposed to be great guns but that i can buy this for once and all and still use it as i develop as a player. I also love to take things apart and fix them so a gun that will keep my busy is a plus cause it would kill a lot of the down time i have. The DM4 i really like so with the matrix. I was also looking at the Angels. I am looking for a cool looking gun for the fact that i dont like the look of those regular looking guns. I like want to earn some respect also for carrying my piece. Now for the tank like is the dye tank good or not or is there something else out there. But all i am really looking for is a setup that will allow me to use this for a long time and give me flexibility and options with my paintballing. Price doesnt matter but i do need everything.

For a tank, get a preset Crossfire, Center Flag, or ACI Bulldog III.

If you want respect, one way to lose a lot of respect at the feild is having a gun, and not knowing anything about it, or not knowing about the sport in general. Not saying you fit into this, but somthing to keep in mind.

$800 is a lot to sink into the sport right off the bat. I would be hesitent to jump right into high end markers. Thats just me, but it is your money.

If he has $800 to spend, let him spend 800, Don't tell him to get a Spyder or whatever, as long as he is willing to learn it and take care of it, who's to tell him what he can and can't buy?

C'mon guys.....

The "Piece" should never be able to get the respect of a good PB player. If u want respect, play to where u can do w/ a $100 Spyder and the same w/ a $1000 Intimidator. Its the Player, NEVER the gun that wins the game ( wel, Brass Eagle, but...ya...:eyes: )

I sugest Gettin a 98c w/ this setup:

a good barrel (BigShot, Custom Products)
a torpedo regulator
Low Pressure kit
Crossfire 68/4500 fiber wraped tank
a good, but simple drop
Halo, Evolution loader
A Dye pod pac (to hold like 6-8 pods)
6-8 140 rnd pods
and get it painted to where u like it

probly u can get most of it cheap on ebay.
and dont get it all right away, play 1 or 2 games w it stock( w/ a new barrel) and get the feel of it

-Remeber, its the player, not the gun-

you might get a little respect from other players for having an expensive gun, but they'll hate you when they find out that you're new by how you play. this kid showed up with an '03 shocker, egg II, gold proteus mask, and lots of other nice gear. i think "hmm... he looks like he knows what he's doing." my friends thought that too. halfway through the day he became the laughing stock of the field. he wasn't particularly bad, but the fact that he looked like he had skill but really didn't made him seem like a scared first timer. think twice about what you're putting money into...

Thanks for that advice. Well all i want really is a good tank and an accurate gun. I was thinking about looks and your right buying an angel or dye and not being able to use them would be dumb. I totally agree. Now is there any gun that might look like a total piece of crap and be crap and then you could trick it out until it decimated all. I am looking for accuarcy not speed so semis would the trick. What about the dye air system is that any good. So do you have any suggestions still. I allways like that noise that the gas guns make with the click and all so that would be nice to still have that. I dont need anything high tec more like a solid gun with accuracy. I guess not i just want to confuse people with my gun.

man, you're new. just get a mech spyder, a tank & a barrel. you don't even need an hpa tank right now or even an electric loader.

- first of all, if you don't have one, GET A MASK!
- any mech spyder (they all perform the same so get whichever looks the coolest to you)
- cp 1-piece barrel
- standard hopper
- whatever size co2 tank, then get it anti-siphoned

now save the rest of the money for paint, tank fills & field fees.

why are you telling this kid to get a lower end gun. he has the money. i suggest a bko. its a solid starter gun. it will give you the ROF you want. also i might suggest either a halo b or egg2 hopper. also get a preset nitro tank. some good names are crossfire, bulldog and nitro duck.

Semi is Semi, the gun won't be doing any work for him, besides giving him better performance than a Spyder.....

Hey im trying to start an argument amongst some fellow paintballers here. I am just looking for some advice. I can see where you are coming with the whole dont get a high end gun cause i might get let down or not use it and so on. I totally agree with you and i bet i probably want be able to fully use the gun to its ability. But i am not lookng for imdeiate results as i said before but i am looking for something that i can develop with and become one of the top notch players. Thats why i was looking at the high end guns that would be a one time buy thing. I dont know what to say really like i have tons of money i though 800 would be enough but i guess it isnt. Now maybe you guys have a point and i should keep with the rentals for a year more develop myself as a player adn then go and get my high end marker when i am more fimilar with the markers and the game itself. I am going to get a mask though i have seen that is a crucial/ key elment to having your own gear. I was also wondering if i have to really have to buy the paitnball clothes and stuff cuase i like mine more. Well thanks for all the advice if any one else has any suggestions please suggest on a non limited budget. But back to the point would a gun like a DM4 or Angel 4 be somethign that i could buy and never have to get a new gun. But i am thinking about waiting now.

get a mag ULE all decked out,
http://store.airgun.com/acb/showdetl.cfm?&DID=17&Product_ID=425&CATID=25

that tank mentioned ealeier and a dye invision mask, (i dont no they look kewl!)

if i had 800 bux to start in paintball, dude, i would spent it all man u rok

SpyderLuvverX

i would start out with a spyder.

--Imagine
-CP 1 piece barrel
-Empire Reloader
-Crossfire 68ci/4500psi(or higher) nitro tank.
-Air America Vigilante reg, or Palmers stab (male)
-new drop like a psychoballistics bullet drop.
or a cradle instead of a drop.
-then i guess get some new fittings for ur hose cus ull get a reg and new drop.
-oh and a tank cover for your nitro tank.

that should be within your budget, and i guess would be good for you.

dont start out to hgh end. youll be jsut fine with a decked out spyder, and youll definately develope as a player with one (which is what u want).

but u might want to play with the gun stock b4 buying all those upgrades, cus if u dont like paintbal after a few more games, then u dont want to have wasted ur cash on the upgrades.

good luck.

Would it make sense for me to get a mask now and a tank and just keep on looking for the gun or should i wait and get it all at once.

If you get a nice mask and a nice HPA tank, they will serve you regardless of what gun you choose. They will be better than what you can rent (assuming your feild rents co2).

And for your clothes, i would wear whatever is the most comfortable for you. You dont need to buy pb pants and a jersey, but some people wear them becasue they are comfortable. I personally dont own any and by no means does it make me a worse player. I would also just use your own clothes, and put that money twards your gun and asscesories.

What tank should i get. Those dye tanks look nice i was thinking about a 71 cubic inch one of those are does any one else have any suggestions on the tank. I was thinking of buying the dye invision so i figured why not get a dye tank.

funwunn has a very valid point.....When it came time to buy your stepup gun, didn't you only WISH you didn't have a $400 Spyder and instead $400 to put into that Matrix you were looking at?
And the other guys have a point too.
Funn, you wind up with an $800 gun, you better have a damn good personality to make up for packing an $800 gun and not knowing how to shoot it at first.

Consider a used 'trix, or perhaps a used Speed Angel if you can find one.
Oh, and do yourself a favor and buy a HaloB, you'll never need another loader. That's your loader problem right there solved for eternity.
And depending on where you play...opt for a small tank for size or a big tank for air.
If you play front and go through 500-800 rounds per game, a 45/4500 is perfect. Smaller, lighter, and enough air to get your through the game. Especially nice if you can buy all day air. The size of it will feel and handle nicely. And it won't weigh you down.
If you rope through 800-1200, consider a 68/45.
Any more and you'll need an 88/4500.

And buy a fiber wrap. Steel tanks are heavy as sin.
