i was just pondering about a paintball video game the other day. then i realized how impossible it may be, between extreme rates of fire without just holding down a button (IE full auto and therefore breaking real rules) akward angle shooting from behind bunkers, running, sliding, diving, bunkering, wiping, natural conditions, slipping,.....etc
theres just to many variables to master on to one controller.
this is one of those human things that can't be put on to a video with ease. just snap shooting, angles to come out of your bunker, yelling, spilling paint, lenses fogging...etc
just to many human made variables.
i'll just stick to real paintball, better then sitting in my house all day playing some dumb game

PB Video Games? Leave them on the console...I bought I believe it was called Xtreme Paintball or somethign like that...There were 2 releases of it. SUCKED BAD!!! AI was horrible and it was made using a free open-source programming program. Sad, sad game..And I had to borrow 10 bucks for it too!!!!
But a PS2 one would be a lot better...Better programming, graphics, and all-around gameplay. Put that online with the ps2 and xbox and there might be a possibility there.

idk about a paintball video game... the only real reason video games are fun are because you can do things that you cant in real life

and the reason that game got so bad is because it sucked. If they made a good one, then it would be good. You can't compare games to that log of crap that they probably made over a weekend

I may hi-jack this thread for a moment here. I have a great idea for it for X-box.
The very hard part about my idea is that it requires a special controller with detachable right triggers (Yes, these would be the ones that fire the paintball gun, and there would like angel triggers, slider cocker triggers, hinges, other various triggers). Off the break, you'd be controlling the player of your choice, and if you got near a bunker, you could tap X to slide into it.
Holding on to the left trigger would make you come out of your bunker (and there would be a sensitivity detector, depending on how far you want to come out). You would also have to hold onto either the left, right, or top arrow, of course depending on the direction. Aiming would be simple; crosshairs could be optional, or the more advanced players could simply choose to aim down the side of the barrel.
It would would most definitely be in first person, but you could hold down the right analog (also the aimer) tomove into first person (like actually physically press it).
Also, just like any other video game, there would be bonuses. If you shoot so many other players out, or have a good move, your adrenaline would build. Once the adrenaline meter was full, you know what happens- press the magic button and bunker the nearest poor sap with no recourse. You could always bunker normally by running by the bunker, but there's always that chance of being shot out.
If you get shot, you auto-switch to your next choice teammember.
Please tell me what you think of my idea. I know it would be expensive because of the trigger idea, but I think this kind of game would rock.

Thank you. Is there any one that could comprehensively review my idea, and point anything out?

01-19-2004, 07:42 AM
So youd basically have a trigger frame on your controller?
I would keep it to mech, just becasue you will never fire that fast on a controller. And that sounds like an awful lot of buttons to be pressing just to come out of your bunker. Mbaey it could switch from first to third when you move bunkers, or when ever else you run around.
Blue Baller
01-19-2004, 11:47 AM
It seems like a lot of buttons to be pressing, but all you are doing is holding left, right, or the up arrow button, the left trigger, and the right trigger to fire. Not much different from halo.

Well, I'll tell you one thing that would have to go. Your adrenaline instant bunker idea. In single player it'd be alright, but if you want the game to go online/be any fun, people would absolutly hate that. People always like to have the feeling that at least COULD have done something.
Also, your controls are sorta simplistic. So I'm locked into my bunker or something like that? What about hardcore run threws and thing like that. What about laying down in the snake and crawling around. In fact what about the snake in general. I mean your controls would be fine for a beer can or a dorito, but the snake seems to not apply.
Alright, I know I hate it when people rag on my idea but dont suggest a solution here's how I would do it. Instead of locking into a bunker or whatever, have "lean" button. Digital paintball has this but it would work better on a console since you lean just a little if you need to. Also, have a button to go prone like in Socom and have it double as a Slide button. Players should also be able to kneel down and stand. Elevation is a pretty big part of paintball.
As for the light gun sort of idea, I would probably just stick with the basic console controller. I mean, as great as 20 bps is, it's just too awkward to controll a whole video game on a 45 pistol grip IMO.
Well, that my 2 cents.
AMGMASTER1
01-19-2004, 05:03 PM
well ud basically be able to do all that stuff thered be a button for crawling snap shooting ect andkneeling and peering its not liek ud only be able to do what the bunker wants u to..............
Blue Baller
01-19-2004, 08:59 PM
We should form a partnership and seel the idea infusion...you had some very nice ideas. But, I already sort of have a leaning thing...it's just how hard you press into the left trigger.
I totally forgot about the snake. So, here's what would have to be added. When youy get near it, I'd still like to see the player press X to enter it, but once in there, they can press B or A and use arrows or whatever to change from prone, to crouching, or to standing (which would free you from the bunker).
I do believe that my controller idea is now kind of far fetched. I guess that the right trigger could have sensitivity too (tapping it would trip an electro, physically pulling it for a mech gun).
Also, without pressing any arrows and the change position button, that could be the slide button.

Put it on the consoles...get it to be third person, like socom 2...make it good, not half fast like so many video games are nowadays..

It would be on the consoles, and would be third person.
Ruffneck142000

thirdperson would be a bad idea, no realism in that.
you would be able to see a guy before he got to your bunker, eliminating any bunker moves.

I agree... You would just be mad lazy, you would know when someone posted on you or when and where they move to, you would never have to wrap your bunker and run the risk of getting shot. It would be a walk in the park. First person would be much more realistic and challenging, you would have to cross up check the field your self....
A small map of the field would be cool with where your guys and where the guys you know of are (when they see them, there positioned would be yelled out and lit up on the map)...
I think that would be an awesome game, if someone actually took there time and made it right. Instead of Tony Hawk's pro skateboarder it would Rocky Knuth's Pro Paintballer :) ...
I like the idea of starting with spyders and small fields first and then working up to better guns and bigger air ball/national tournaments towards the end... There is a lot of potential for an accurately depicted paintball video game and I think it would help the sport a lot if done right. I know I would buy one if it was done right ;) ...

OR instead of coming up with more reasons to sit on our rumps in front of a boob tube we can all actually GO OUTSIDE and PLAY.
and blah blah weather blah blah money...
- weather: indoor fields or run around the house dry-firing.
- money: the $$ needed to buy a video game can be used for a case of paint.

Oh, I play a lot, I just can't fire my guns inside the house so a game would be nice ;) ... Besides, a game would have more fields than people can even think of in the area. I don't really play any video games but if I had a paintball one, I would probably play it :) .
Look at Skateboarding for instance, it is ver easy to just go out side and do, yet they are some top selling games...
Why do ya gotta try and burst our bubble nerd? ... :P

Yeah, no game is gonna REPLACE the real thing. I think that's obvious. There's no reason to complain about people being "lazy". It's just isn't possible (unfortunatly) to go play PB whenever we get a little bored.
Anyways, I was diffenitaly imagining the game as FPS. However, I would like to see a limited 3rd person view. like a really tight view that is useful for making sure your foot isn't sticking out but offers no unrealistic advantage. Otherwise, you end up with one of the problems HL:DPB has, which is getting shot inthe knee or marker when you THOUGHT you were tucked into the bunker.
As for were to put the game... well, if I had my way, I'd make it cross platform. Why not? The PC market is just too huge too ignore, and I wouldn't even think about choosing between the X-Box and PS2 communities. Make the game for everything. Any system with a hard-drive could keep up with any updates that might be released, so the time is definitally right for a huge cross platform title.
Anyone else actually thinking about giving this project a shot?

If they do, I'm all for it. Steal my idea, I just want it getting out there.
OK, last change. Off the break, you are running in third person so you can better see where you are going, but once in a bunker, it switches to first person.

Of course it would take an eternity for me to do it myself.

What would really be nice is if could find someone GOOD at 3D Modeling and animation. I could do it myself but it'd be ugly as hell lol.

If they did come out with a pb game someone could easily make a controller that has a double trigger instead of one. I can see that happening. I have been thinking about this for a long time. But a problem online would be is some kids would just run around the entire time trying to bunker people and it would suck. In real paintball you dont do that. In video game paintball people think why not. A person would never really run straight at someone who's shooting at them like in counter strike and Halo. People could care less if the die so why would the care if the got out. If a bunch of poops werent running around trying to bunker people it could be a sweet game. Like others have said making a paintball game would be hard to figure out the button configureation and such but it would be a challenge.

People won't run around being because it sucks getting hit off the break in a game for the same reasons as it does in real life. You have to sit around and wait for everyone else to finish playing. You aren't gonna run around trying to bunker people because your going to fail if you do. People in CS don't just run around and not care if they get shot (at least not if they are any good). You try and shoot your enemy without getting shot yourself. People don't like getting killed alot. They want other people to think they are good at the game they are playing. And if they don't care, they get owned. Call it Internet Darwinism :-D
Trust me on this, I play ALOT of online games like these. If somone gets annoying, we could include a Vote Off system much like Socom 2's. You screw around and piss people off, you get to leave. GG
