Hey everyone. Allright I am a newbie. Bare with me here since I know that everyone of you went through the same thing at one time or another. Now I have played maybe like a whole 3 games before deciding to take the plunge and go all out with this sport. But I love it! haha. So here is my dilemma. I know the deal with the goggles...they say thermal are worth it. I need gloves but I will just cut up some old ones. I have camo (military). And I know that Brass Eagle is crap. I am in the market for a reliable and upgradeable semi-auto. I hae read up on the guns and was told that Kingman Spyder were very good and even better for a starter like me. The question is what one? haha. I am thinking on a Spyder SE, but I dont want to regret it. Also I was looking at an Avalon GT Commando 2. It looked pretty sharp but again I dont know if its any good. The reviews only can do so much..I need some advice. If any of you readers have any other preferences towards a marker let me know. Thanks.

First I'd like to welcome you to the forums and to our great sport. Don't be afraid to ask questions, 99.9% of the folks here will be glad to help out.

Now on to your "dilema". I would recommend a Spyder Compact 2000. You can find it online for around $85. It is very customizable because practically every company out there makes upgrades for it. It is also easy to maintain and is just an all around good begginner's marker. It is definitely the way to go.

Go spyder Compact. Its a reliable gun. I recomend this gun b/c you learn how it works b/c its a relatively simple design and you can upgrade it when your ready. Its a pretty good stock gun. Just replace the barrel for now and read into other upgrades once you have a firm grip of the game of paintball.

Since you were already looking at a Spyder. You might want to consider the Xtra. I have talked to people with it and they say thy like the vertical feed plus it has a mini expansion chamber so that is a plus. Really it comes down to how much you want to pay but for the money the compact and even the Xtra are good guns.

Get the spyder compact and upgrade it.

There are many reasons for this. One, the Xtra is a vertical feed. When you are low on balls the blowback will shoot paintballs back up into the loader, taking longer to load the next ball. Two, the mini-expansion chamber is crap. With the money you pay for the Xtra you could by a C2K and a REAL expansion chamber. Maybe even a reg.

If you could find a spyder c2k java black with the pin then that would be a very good choice but don't go over a $100 for it.a spyder c2k or maybe even a tl plus if you prefer a rear cocking. If you get a tl plus get rid of the mini x-chamber and get an x-core x-chamber (pshyco ballistics)

A Piranha Vtl G2 or a Piranha BL G3 are great and are easier and quicker to put back together than a Spyder.

if your going to get a spyder try to get a spyder xtra. My brother got one and it looks pretty good. I have personally seen a spyder tl+ half cock after every shot so i have to think they suck. I use a tippmann 98 custom and its great outta the box, pretty accurate too.

ok, dont get the extra. its not worth it, the kingman upgrades are not very good. but a spyder is an excellent starter gun, and so is a tippman. but the tippmans are a little harder to work on than the spyder. so my choice would have to be the spyder compact. thats a great in-expensive gun with loads of aftermarket parts for.:)
