MY dad tells me that scopes are mainly just optics, and that nikon is the best. I don't have enough money to get a nikon tho. So which is the best?

Scopes are actually not that great for paintball necessarily. Scopes help you see a long ways, right? But in paintball, unless you have a Flatline barrel, you're distance you're going to be accurately firing without arcing your shot, is at most, 150'. So a scope is fairly pointless in my opinion. Plus, paintballs don't always fly straight, no matter HOW nice of a barrel/marker you have. A paintball marker isn't a rifle...accuracy between the two just doesn't compare.

Now, that's not to say that a Red Dot sight doesn't have any value. It does help you aim, but the magnification doesn't get in the way, and doesn't confuse you. (That is, if you only get a 1x power red dot sight...) If you get a big enough aperature (eye opening), you can keep both eyes open while you aim as well.

Don't bother with a scope. But if you absolutely want something on top of your marker to help you aim a bit more, go with a red dot sight... Hope that helps some.

I agree with crime dog about the scope not being usefull for aiming and what not.

But I play alot of recball in the woods that cover ALOT of land. I started to bring my binoculars so I can scan for people from distances. But my binoculars are pretty big, and can be a pain to run with, so I figured that I would mount a scope to my gun anyways. I took my dads old hunting scope, its a Tasco with a 3x-10x zoom. I always just leave it on the 3x though. I didnt want this to get in the way of my sights though, because I cant use the actuall scope to aim with, so what I did was I went to D i c k's sporting goods and got a set of see through scope mounts. I belive they have a 2 inch raise. I think they were around 20 bucks. They are good because I can still use the real gun sights for aiming.

So when I play in the woods, if I think somone is behind a tree, or hiding in a bush, I can look through and see the tree in detail from any distance. I belive its worth it.

But when I go to a field to play paintball, I take it off because #1 its usuless, and #2 people will laugh at me! haha.

If you want I will try and get a pic of it. The height is just perfect to go around the hopper.

Ok here goes I am a competition traget shooter and have been for years. Scopes are usefull in paintball only if you want to be a sniper. Even then they are of little use because of the phsyics of firing a paintball. They don't go far and are not very accurate it is like trying to shoot a water ballon out of a cannon. The sights on a tippman are great as is. If however you feel that you need another sight get an armson prodot sight. This sight is designed to be used with both evey open and is the only sight i have found that give the fast target aquisition needed for speedball. I have one on every paint gun i own. DYE is making a version of the same type of sight which should be good too (it is smaller which means a little less accurate but it should still be more than sufficant for paintball)

scopes are designed for firearms. paintball guns lack the range and acuracy needed to make them usefull.
they are used by newbees often because they have not learned the difference between paintballs and bullets. the same reason they tend to be fond of long barrels. go ahead and try using one. you will soon see why people who have been playing for any length of time shun them. just do your self a favor and dont buy a expensive one.
