View Full Version : Thinking about getting a new gun

I decided to post this here first with my Tippmann Buddies, then maybe the general forums list. Plus I don't want Tippmann haters to tell me why I must get rid of the 98C. I'm really wanting a higher rate of fire and accuracy, mostly accuracy. By the time I add a Promark double trigger and a Palmer regulator I will have had $350 in my model 98, and it is simply not worth that to me. When I ask my wife what I should do she rolls her eyes, so it's up to you guys for opinions.
I'm leaning towards a SP Impulse or a Autococker. I have only shot a Impulse. I want to stay co2 for a while so a ICD is out. From what I hear a Tippmann will never be as good as a Impy or a Autococker, so I may keep the Tippmann as a back up or spare. I'm just looking for advice and opinions here so let it go. Fyi, I mostly play woods ball, and seldom speed ball. If you tell me to keep the Tippmann, tell me why, if you would go with some other gun tell me why. Thanks guys.

LOL. Man I understand your pain. I also am planning on buying a new marker. After I finish upgrading my A-5 this Friday, I am ordering me a Racegun. And of course my tippmann is going into my bag to be used as backup. I have yet to find a more reliable marker. If money is no object buy a racegun. It is a fully auto Auto Cocker. Man is it fast and accurate. But if you cant or are unwilling to spend 1,000 on a marker buy the impulse. It sound like you have your mind made up. So the impulse is the one for you.

Yeah, the sub $500 range. I have 2 cars, a mortgage, a wife, and a 4 week old baby. PS my wife quit her job to take care of the youngan. I have a Suzuki DRZ400E i'm selling since I never have time to ride it anymore. I should get like 3k for it, but I still would like to limit it to around 500 bux mostly since I don't have time to play paint ball much either. I can let a Sub 500 dollar toy not get used, but I cannot let anything much more than that sit or it is a wast of money and starts bugging me.

you can still get a ICD gun and use co2. just hook an inline reg up to it and you should be fine. theres a site that tells you how to run a bushy off co2 somewhere. you can also look into a mag, and upgrade it.

If you are going for a faster gun why do you want to stick with co2? Wouldn't shoot down be a big problem?
Not if it's antisiphoned and regulated. It's almost as good as HPA...almost.
ALLGROWNUP - you can get a used mag with some nice ups on eBay, that could be what your looking for. Maybe something with an intelliframe and stuff. And p8ntba11dude89 was right, you can run a Bushy or BKO off Co2, I read it on a site as well. Just antisiphon it and it'll go fine (get a regulator for it too).

The Impulse, no upgrades needed out of the box, the max flo works great with A/S co2, plus you have yourself a great ROF as well.
on the other hand, cockers can handle co2 very well, it wont destroy the internals like everybody says. you dont get a high ROF until you throw an eblade on there, but you can also completely customize it to your liking.
whichever really, im more of a cocker person (what im getting next) so im biased to lean towards the cocker, but impulses are great guns.

If your into that ebay thing then buy one off of ebay. But if you're anything like me you will want to buy it brand new. I just have a problem with used things. Yeah congratulations on the baby man!!!! In this case you should save the money for things for the baby the new gun can wait until later. Besides who knows what they might come out with in a few months. Oh and check out that Evil Omen. Its a hot gun as well.

Ill have to agree w/ your wife:rolleyes:
What purpose are you getting the cocker or impulse for, to show off, or what? My wife does worse when I start in w/ my pb talk.....she yells at me and I end up going to a buddies house and drink some beer and hang out till she cools down. Ive spent more than 500 on all my equipment, and there is no way I would waste anymore money by getting another pb gun for 500 more bucks. Spending 350 total on your tippmann over a couple years is enough, dont cough up 500 cause you dont want to get a palmer stab and double trigger. Besides the stab will improve your accuracy anyway.
you have a wife and a family to take care of, dont waste anymore on a new marker. Just stick w/ what you have and play and be happy.
Trust me, you can find a hobby that doesnt cost so much. Stop spending. I only say this becuase it is my honest opinion, and usually those who care about you most know the true facts (ie wife). besides sounds like you have enough toys already.
if you absolutely have to spend money, do it, but Ive stopped becuase Im tired of hearing in every day.

f I were you i would pick a a stock 2k3 v/f its a very good base gun with alot of upgrade potential. You can pick one up for 289.00 tp://shop.store.yahoo.com/predatorpaintballonlinestore/veau20.html[/url] and with that extra money you can get a low cost hp tank or some upgrades. Or you can get a set of kanars which are really good barrels http://www.one-stop-paintball-shop.com/kabaki.html

Keep the Tippmann. In a few months your family life will dominate your free time. Those days you want to PB will be trips to the zoo, puppet show etc.
Wait a year or so, see if you still have free time (or any more kids). In the meantime throw a few dollars in upgrades at your Tippy.
Can't beat the Tippmann reliability factor.
Who knows, if you continue to leave the wife at home and go paintballing a lot, she may get your new gun in the divorce settlement anyway.

Man buy the fast marker and shoot the wife when she whines:laugh:
Why is it in paintball everyone thinks they need to shoot faster faster faster? It also seams to me that paint ball is all about looking good, I have seen the players with the trickest equipment get oood and aaahd about and they get shot every game cause they spent all their money on equpiment but forgot to learn how to use it and god forbid they try and work togther with their team. But the guy with the old beat up pump gun and his team mates tearing up the high dollar kids never gets noticed.
I am going to go into the paintball buisness make a chrome can that holds 200 paint balls and tell everyone that it loads paintballs into you hopper faster than the plastic can so it only cost $500. Bet I sell some.

I'd go with yaktori on this one. I mean, it's up to you if you really think you need a new gun, but the best choice would be to keep playing with your tippmann and work out whatever problems you're having through tactics and skills, not money. Remember that this game is more about how good the player is and how well he plays with his team than what marker he uses.
If you really want higher rof I'd suggest starting with a double trigger and home spring mod/trigger stop mod. That will not cost much and might solve all of your problems.

Get a used Impy. Keep the Tippmann for your baby. Have fun.
Oh yea, congrats with the kid.

Well, my setup is in my sig. I'm making the jump to a Timmy during or after the summer, but with my new trigger and stop, my pull is 1 mm. If you want speed that would help quite a bit.

I'd take a m98c with an e-bolt kit that is properly installed over an impulse anyday.

Really? Out of the 1 ebolted tippmann and like 6 impulses I've liked every impulse better. But hey, whatever's good for you is fine by me.

Chinesebugrepel & Yaktori & SeaRfoR are dead on.
I understand your pain though, the compulsive feeling that you need to upgrade. Its frustrating when your marker's not consistant. I just bit the bullet & bought the Palmer. The tippy's a solid marker, with as many mods as you want to spend money on. Don't upgrade, just because Tippmanns are known as 'entry level markers'. So what? Why spend $$ to upgrade to impress others?
Get the Palmer, work on your consistancy & accuracy, and if after that you still feel the need to upgrade, the Palmer should be able to move to your new maker.
I've seen it suggested elsewhere, and think it's a good idea. Before upgrading to a new marker, go play stock class for a few months. Work on the basics of your game before you decide you need higher ROF.
I need to get the mod-demons out of my system before I get married in August :) I already get the rolling-of-the-eyes now :)
Congrats on the kid, start a college fund.

Definitely stick with what you have. Put the Stab and the Trigger on it, perhaps a few home mods for S***s and giggles and be done with it.
Everyone who has said that your family is going to dominate your life is right as rain.
Not that I think you should give up paintball, but Children are not only expensive but unpredictably expensive. Not to be an alarmist, but something could happen and you could be left really wanting the money you spent on the new gun.
Set that money aside for the proverbial "rainy day", you'll probably be glad that you did.
If you really have your heart set on a new gun get a used Automag with an intelliframe. They are durable, reliable and will run CO2. They are also available used in fairly large quantities, many with good ups and what not already included.
I congratulated you on your baby in a different thread, but.
Congratulations on your new family I hope that they bring you many years of joy and happiness and also perhaps some retribution for things that you put YOUR parents through when you were young, we ALL deserve that.

Well last night around 3am as I was up with my daughter who has evening cholic I decided to keep the Tippmann, and put the reg and dbl trigger on it. I have not decided which to get, I like the Promark trigger but it is kinda expensive for a trigger. I will be looking for a used reg, so if you know of anyone who has one for sale let me know.
Thanks on the congrats on the Kid (named her Sarah). I was worried about giving up all my toys, Dirt bikes, street bikes, mtn bikes, paint ball, real guns, and aquerinums. But I really dont have the time or money for all of them, and really don't care about most of them anyway. Honestly if I was not up all the time with her, I probably would not be on this forum at all, I would be SLEEPING. I get 3-5 hours now, it has been over a month since I have gotten more then 6 hours at a time. Its good to see some older dudes on this forum who feels my pain/blessings at the same time. Gotta go, I hear her crying now. Fyi I wished I would have had a kid sooner, they rock, but so does her mom. (she's a honey)

that reminds me of finding nemo. "you so rocked it squirt" the turtle.
yeah we arent all kids. ;) I didnt say congratulations earlier, so I will now. Congratulations on your girl. Sorry to hear that you arent getting much sleep, but it will get better. Soon youll be finding yourself taking naps in sync with her:D . J/K. but hey, when you got a few minutes why not catnap. I think you made the right decision on the paintball gun. I tell ya, if you have any tricks to get the ole wifey to stop the gripin about my hobbies, Id be glad to hear them. I wanted a dirt bike and stuff too, but my wife took as a joke. I guess she did, she just laughed and said Ill kill myself on it. Shes prolly right, and I dont have a bike and I am still alive after three surgeries from football related injuries. Funny nobody says dont play football youll kill yourself, huh. Oh well Im just blabbering now. :blah: see ya!

Do you want to know the trick.....Here it is get her involved with you. I have already sold her 03 Honda CRF150, but she used to ride with me, she has played paintball with me, and she mtn bikes with me. She prefers mtn bikes, Paintball hers a lady too much. Where I got a small bruise, she got a 5inch welp that was 3 different shades of purple. I married a tom boy/adverturious woman, who does not blow a lot of our money on clothes shopping, it just is not her thing.

lucky you! my wife is petite and not very athletic. She does stuff like yoga, and kickboxing. She isnt the type to go w/ me and ride bikes. I asked her if she wants to go, but she doesnt care to, not even to watch. She does help w/ stuff like gardening. unfortunately, she does like to shop. Oh well, she makes more money than me, so I guess I cant complain. Maybe when I complete my bachelors and get a 'real' job, I can make more than her. :D
sorry for getting off topic tura.
