I've been intrested in getting into paintball, and have been reading alot of stuff online. I own nothing for paintball, and i am looking for a gun, perferabily with a nice package. I'm looking for a gun that is fairly cheap (150 and under) that i can upgrade later. A friend recommended a JT 6.0, but i hear that it is really hard to upgrade. Alot of my friends have Tippman 98 Customs, and i wanted to get something different. Any help would be appreciated alot. Thanks

EDIT: I would prefer a gun that is fairly easy to maintain/repair

go get an imagine. it only cost $100 and you could upgrade the barrel or hopper with the extra $50 you have left over

check out a spyder. you can get a victor/victor 2 for under a hundred and you can upgrade them vary easily. dont get a jt 6.0. they suck. Therer are also alot of other spyders out there for around $100. they are all easy to maintain if you have half a brain. look around pbreview at some of the reviews and forums.

I second that.

Get an Imagine.. it comes with an E handle, and it looks really nice with black and chrome. Spyders are VERY easy to clean and take care of. And also very easy to upgrade. Only thing really worth upgrading though is just the barrel and hopper, like Monkey said.

also look at pmi guns there the same as a spyder but with metal body.Spyders are nice but the flip side is a lot of the gun uses metric parts.

spyders have metal bodies. Get an Imagine with an Empire Reloader for 150 on paintballgateway.com

you guys are forgetting that he needs a quality mask, co2 tank, and hopper. he can't get an imagine, mask, and a motorized hopper for under $150. go with a spyder victor. they're $40 somewhere, i think it was paintballgateway.com. then get a v-force mask, 16 oz co2 tank, and a VL200 hopper. that should give you a little breathing room for shipping or maybe even a new barrel.

I am a newbie aswell. I went cheap and got a Orion Vl at Wallyworld. I got a 200 round gravitiy fed hopper for like 5.00 , and a 9 oz. tank for 20.00. It cost a little under 100.00. If you wanted you could get an electric hopper and still have money left over for maybe a new barrel or something. It works good for me. Good range and pretty accurate. I shot my brother 50 yards with it. So it has good range. I could just be a newbie with his first gun saying this because it is his first. But I liked it. See YA! :D

All barrels have pretty much the same range (cept the flatline). I'd get a new barrel before a motorized hopper.

all markers have the same effective range at equal velocities.

Well, I really appreciate all the help you guys gave me, but when i said 150, I meant for the gun itself, I actually have 200, but I figured a Mask and C02 would cost about 50. I saw alot of you guys recommended a Spyder Imagine for a 100, so should I upgrade to a Spyder Imagine Select for 158? Thanks again for all the help you've guys have given me.

EDIT: Ok, these are the guns I am looking at E-99, Imagine, Imagine Select, and possibly the Fenix. I plan on getting a Electric Hopper and a mask. I have enough money to buy any of these guns plus the equipment i was thinking of. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Don't forget Tippmann. The model 98 is an exellent gun to start with. You won't need to buy an electric hopper off the bat, and a 98c will rarely give you problems, no matter how you maintain it.

Sorry about that last post i didn't see your last sentance. My fault.

Yeah, I heard Tippman 98's are indestructable, but I wanted to do more speedball and I heard Tippys are horrible for that, so I decided to get a Imagine. The only thing is that I hate the clear grip and was wondering if there was any grip I could buy for it without blocking anything important, like buttons.

Just buy a grip and gut out the place where the buttons are

Well if you just hate the color of the grips, you could always paint them. Check around there are lots of threads on how to do it. If you want an aftermarket grip, Dye makes one for E-Spyders. The first batch were defective, but I think the new ones are now out and problem-free.

by all means....do not get a gun that is under $100, and UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE GET A SPYDER!!!!! go with a tippmann 98 custom. It's bad to be different...didn't they teach you anything in school?

while i wouldn't have called him a moron, it's completely ignorant to say what he said. there is no good reason to not get a spyder. foolzgold, either you back up what you say, or don't post in here any more.

I have a Spyder Xtra. I am very pleased with this gun. You can buy the gun, a 20oz Co2, upgrade the barrel to a CP one piece, and get your Co2 tank antisyphoned for about $160. Read the reviews on it.

yes..there is a reason for not getting a spyder. I was playin paintball with ten people. One person was using a spyder...it broke. so he took out his back-up spyder...it broke. Then someone gave him one of their back up spyders..it broke. And someone else was using a spyder....it broke. Four spyders broke in about 2 hours....and some were brand new and the others were fairly new. They did nothing wrong to it..they just broke.

gone...
02-01-2004, 07:11 PM
i doubt they just broke. true there might have been defects that cause the gun to malfunction(sp?) but i bet if someone took some time to figure out what it was that happend, the problem could easily be fixed.

I have a spyder electra and i can honestly say it stinks. If i were you I would go with a tippmann 98 custom. Also they sell them in starter packs that come with everything. The Imagine also has a starter pack but i would still go with the tippman becuase they are VERY reliable and practically indestructable.

Honestly... how can a Spyder brake like that? I'm not calling you a liar, but I just cant believe that. Spyders are great guns, but they're SOOOOO basic and simple. Its kind of like saying... oh, my bowling ball isnt working lol. It must have been mis-used in some way. Spyders are so simple with so few parts... theres barely any room for a problem to happen.

'they just broke.' uh huh  nothing 'just breaks.' idiots cause guns to break. anyone who is not an idiot doesn't need to worry about a spyder 'just breaking.'

FoolZ GOLD

Some just broke....or they were breaking paint every other ball.....seriously. they just plained sucked and broke and...everyting was wrong with them.

amzng_spyderman
02-02-2004, 03:35 PM
don't expect to be incredibly vague and have people listen to you at the same time. ball breakage can be caused by many things. spyders don't break paint any more than, say, cockers or mags.

Ok, I told my friends that I was planning on getting an Imagine and upgrading it, and they told me that i should get a Fenix instead, because It has more features and "is more accurate" and i won't need to upgrade it as much. I thought all E-Spyders were the same though. Oh, I was wondering, how long does the batteries last, and if the Imagine has a semi-auto lock for tournies. Once again, thanks for the help.

amzng_spyderman
02-02-2004, 04:50 PM
the fenix doesn't have any really usefull features that would make it better than the imagine, nor is it more accurate. the imagine has tourney lock. i don't remember how long the batteries last.

 just go with the imagine.

Crazy Dude
02-02-2004, 05:25 PM
Allright, I will. But, is it true that the Imagine isn't water-proof?

amzng_spyderman
02-02-2004, 05:29 PM
that's true. water can fry the board. but this is true of all electronic markers.

Crazy Dude

Should I get a mechanical then like a Xtra or Shutter?

Allright, so my hybrid game Aquaball is out of the question then. Ok, one last question, you reccommended ordering from paintballgateway.com, and thats the cheapest place i can fine the Imagine, but I'm wary of buying online. Is it a good site?

Danman69

yeah I have ordered from paintballgateway.com. They are a good site
