OK I went to another forum yesturday..

:(
yes I know it was not right... well this forum really sucked. There was nothing good. Nobody was even close to being smart. THey were all idiots.

Then I saw it. You run your mouse over a topic and a box appears and shows you the first post. It's not like you just run it over and it appears and annoys you, but it shows you the first post after a second or two.

I hate going to a topic that looks really really good, and then the posts don't have much to do with it. or a title that dosn't make sense so you go to see, what it is and then you have to go back. This may not be much of a hassle for those with a quick internet , but for me it sometimes sucks.

If you don't know what I mean andrew, I ill send you the web site.

But this option is really cool. would it be possible?

Thanks,

Andrew

I am guessing they used DHTML and had a new layer appear that displays the first post.

It would be possible, but it would probably be too difficult for it to be worth it.

Can I see the site?

I'll think about it...

It will also slow down the loading of forum pages because it has to query the database to grab the first post for each thread.

i like the idea, but i dont think its a fair trade off.

i'd rather have faster page loads than little novelties.

Opening forum + opening a thread + finding out it is a stupid thread + going back to the forum = less than

A slower opening forum = 3 less steps.

I don't know what the time would equal though. That fourm didn't take that long to load. they didn't have as many threads. but still.

Oh i don't know, anybody else have an opinion?

i think its a good idea, but then i have a DSL modem and speed isn't a problem no matter the site. for all those 56kers that could pose a problem.
