Out of curiosity, who else feels that most of the paintball games played today feel nerfed? Look at the specs on the majority of the guns out there today. Is it just me, or does everyone use a machine gun now? I have more fun playing the games with pump action guns than anything else now because the equipment used nowadays just nerfs the fun of the game. No one has lots of skill , just lots of paint to throw. Sorry if i sound like im complaining, just trying to see what everyone else thinks.

Since that's how we ball, that's obviously not going to be how we think.

On the surface it may not seem like skill is involved... but when you realize that the same teams come out on top over and over and over... it starts to look a bit different.
There's plenty of skill, but it's a different kind of skill, but both current speedball and pumps require gun skill. The person who can aim accurately and quickly, and fire faster has a better advantage. It doesn't matter which you're talking about. Someone using a pump putting out 2bps will be at a disadvantage over someone putting out 3bps. The 3 shot guy has a 50% better chance of getting an elim. In speedball, someone shooting 10bps and someone else shooting 15bps is the same thing. That is a skill. The other skills are the same too. Moving when it's clear, (stock class hearing the *psshhh* and in speedball hearing the loader open) taking ground for better angles, knowing when to take risks... It's all the same. Just one dumps 10 times as much paint.

Naw theres alot of skill involved with using a semi-auto marker, you still have to aim, same with a pump, only we can worry less on accuracy cause we can throw more paint, so what? Its pretty much like how we have ovens now than how they didnt back in the older days. Ovens you have your tricks, older days you have your own tricks too.
You still need to learn how to snap shoot, you still need to aim, movement I think has changed more though, now with semi-auto markers, you have to move faster than with pumps because you need to avoid more balls flying, so with ever new change, theres a new obstacle.

I think much of paintball world is concerned with BPS more than anything else. We are always trying to make out guns faster, and new faster guns, faster hoppers, speed increasing mods, and quicker recharging tanks are all the rage and constantly hitting the paintball world. Back in the pump days, accuracy and consistancy were more important, as well as the skill to place paint exactly where it was intended to go.
Things have changed, but there is no doubt in my mind that there is still a lot of skill involved. With more paint flying in the air, the player must be faster, must aim quicker, and must be able to pin the opponant. As UT said, there is a reason why the pros are pros, and there is a reason that the same teams continually win year after year.
My old warp fed retro mag (which did a paltry 12-14 BPS when I really hammered on it) still tagged many, many players. I have been many a time tagged by players with slower blowbacks and tagged many times by some of the old school pump guys still toting the phantoms, ghosts, and ACI's of years past.
The "machine guns" have just forced us, the players, to adapt to the new style of playing.
i'm pump and stock class all the way man. but i don't agree that using a fast semi means there isn't as much skill needed to play.
on a side note if any of you want to try a real fun game try playing ironman/limbs with stock class guns.
