I am new to this sport. I purchase a Spyder Rodeo. I know it has a velocity adjuster. How do I measuer what speed the ball is coming out at? What is the safe operating distance? I was told 50 feet.

Someone told me that I should shoot a ball out and watch it drop. If it begins dropping at about 100 feet, then that is about right. If it drops before that, then the gun is shooting to slow. If it drops after that, then the gun is shooting to fast. Please someone advise.

you need a chronograph to measure velocity. the good ones range from $80-$300. i don't recall the numbers for range @ a safe limit.
