Awhile back I posted about a prospective setup and fundage prohibited me buying it. Now that I am back on the market there are new guns and new technology I was looking for some assistance on what to buy. After talking with a buddy I know for sure I need to run compressed air because my buddy is a scuba diver and has scuba tanks that we can take along to when we play. I have heard some bad things about CO2 so I don't think I want to use that. I was hoping to spend less then $400 for my whole setup and need some good goggles. Any help would be much appreciated, I definitely want to buy new so please no "buy my used such and such".

- Thanks for your help!

look into a spyder imagine with upgrades

I was looking at the Spyder Electra, is that OK at all or is the Imagine a better gun? Also, what is a good compressed air system?

The Electra is just an Imagine that's worth more, different milling, and has a drop forward. Go with an imagine, unless you're rich and like the look of the Electra more.

OK, lets forget the Electra then. Gun wise I have an OK idea on what I am looking for but an air system has me stumped. All I see is tanks that use "nitrogen". Are there ones out there that use "compressed air" or are "nitrogen" and "compressed air" internchangeable?? What size should I look to buy? What are the different PSI ratings for? Etc.

Also, what is a good mask? I want something thermal and that WON'T fog up, I had my experience with fogging masks and it was not fun. Loader-wise, I was looking at the Empire Loader or maybe the eVolution II.

"compressed" "nitrro" and HPA are thae same thing.
I'd recommend either a small 47 ci/3000 psi(70$) or for good price crossfire has a 68ci alloy tank for 115

As far as masks go you can end up spending aobut a hundread dollars like I did . my setup is a JT proteus thermal with a vortex fan (NEVER FOGGED) but the cheaper alternative is a jt spectra thermals which are about 30 dollars and a fan is 30 if you want ( its a good investment, thermal still fog in long or hot games, but from what i can tell the fan takes care of it)

Don't get an Imagine. I've had the cance to shoot them, for an electric trigg the pull is way to hard. Kingmann as a company is overrated aswell, everybody says don't get (insert gun name) 'cause its not a real spyder. Don't listen to them. Had to get that off my chest.

Now: your looking for a good marker set up under $400:

Gun: E-rex (http://store.yahoo.com/actionvillage/010-1617.html)
Tank: 68/3k nitro tank (http://store.yahoo.com/actionvillage/031-7120.html)
Hopper: Evo2 hopper (http://store.yahoo.com/actionvillage/014-9080.html)
Mask: JT Spectra (http://store.yahoo.com/actionvillage/020-4811.html)
Tank Cover: Dye (http://store.yahoo.com/actionvillage/030-9560.html)

The marker kicks the crap out of the Imagine, hopper blazing fast (to match the gun), Nitro and a tank cover (tank cover is'nt needed, just a real good idea), and a good solid mask
You'll have money left over so if you want to go for a JT Flex 7 over the Spectra.

Have fun.

Have fun. imagine trigger pull too hard? that's impossible. something must have been wrong with the one you tried. and overrated? they're reliable & fairly inexpensive, hense the reason so many people buy them. now i won't go and bad-mouth clones because i have no experience with them.

the rest of D's recommendations are fine.

you don't have to get an electro marker. a mech marker will do just fine & you can get a cheaper hopper, since the eVo II feeds way too fast for most low-end mechs.

Honestly I found the trigger pull to be a little long stock (I know this can be fixed) and hard to walk.

OK, I went shopping around and read some reviews and came up with this setup let me know if I did well at all:
Kingman Spyder Fenix
JT Spectra System Thermal
Odyssey Halo Loader
Crossfire 47ci 3000psi Fixed Nitrogen System
Redz Tank Cover 47ci
Gold Cup Gun Oil
Power Wipe Squeegee
Total: $392.71 with free shipping.

High preset, 850 psi.

Is that a solid setup? Most the stuff is out of stock at Paintballgear.com so I guess I get to wait and check some different setups out before I know for sure.

well if you're not too attached to the fenix' milling, check out one of the cheaper e-spyders. they all perform the same right out of the box, meaning the only differences are milling & some fancy doodads.

what you could do is call pbgear & see if that stuff is in stock. lots of times they aren't able to update their site. i know when i ordered my e99 last spring it said out of stock but i called them & they had some.

In the case of spyders, expensive doesnt mean better. The fenix will not perform any better than an imagine. The only thing that the fenix has over the imagine is milling, top cocking, and 1 bps faster. Get an imagine instead of the fenix, and with the extra 100 dollars get a 68/3000 carbon fiber in place of the 47/3000.

I think the Halo is kinda overkill.....go for the Evo2 and with the money you saved buy some paintballs.

I was thinking the TSA, its a little cheaper then a Egg so I was thinking of going with that.

I am still have not completely decided on a marker though, what are people's impressions of the Dragun LCD Bottomline? As seen here (http://store.yahoo.com/actionvillage/010-4833.html). From what I heard they are pretty comparable to a Spyder. Is there a better gun for approximately $200 that might be worth looking at? I kind of like the idea of an electronic frame but I would consider others. I don't want any flashy colors because I will mainly be playing woodsball. Also, would an aftermarket barrel be recommended? If so, what is a good brand to look at? I have heard the J&J ceramics are nice but PB Gear only lists a 14in for the Spyders and I am not too fond of that. I would prefer a 12".

dragun lcd is a good choice. you'll find a lot of biased opinions, though. people who don't have it say it's just a no-good spyder clone while people who do own it have no complaints. in the end you're really just choosing what you personally like & is in your price range.

for barrels, CP 1-piece & Smart Parts Progressive/Teardrop are good barrels, price ranges from $40-50.

Last I knew theLCD bottom line had a plastic frame. Something to keep in mind...
I still say the E-rex, better than that dragun and costs less.

Ordered all my stuff earlier today and went with this setup:
Kingman Spyder Electra
Odyssey Halo TSA LED (black)
Crossfire 68ci, 3000 psi compressed air tank
JT Flex-7 Thermal (black)
squeege, oil, etc.

Gonna pick up a bottle cover locally...

superb choice. the only thing that you will need is a harness and pods. you can get one that holds 3 pods with pods for about 30 or something at pbgear.com. btw, did you get black or blue electra, and dx or not?

Normal Electra in black, DX only includes a different barrel and reg which I plan on replacing anyway.

I picked up a pod pack and 2 pods already, I figure that is about all I need... for now.

Dragun TES is $250, Fenix $190, Spyder Electra (what I bought) $160.

I think it will be more then sufficient for me... still can't decide on what upgrades to do. I kinda like the idea of the 15° Assault Block from Check-it. I think I decided on a Smart Parts 12" Tear Drop barrel. Any other necessities?

CP 1 peice is by far the best barrel in that price range. Dead on target.

Don't get the teardrop.

Interesting, thanks for your recommendation. I had heard really good things about the Tear Drop... I will probably spend a little more time in the Barrels and Paint forum before I make a final decision though.

Thanks to everyone for your help. My air tank, mask, squeegee, oil will be here Wednesday. My gun and hopper will be here on Friday, and a whole bunch of my friends are playing some Outlaw on Saturday so I might be "sick" for work. Unfortunately my boss will be playing too so that option may not work.:D

Well... I splurged and bought a Smart Parts All American. I switched with a guy at work for my Saturday shift, so I will be playing some outlaw this Saturday. Can't wait!
