I purchased a custom 98 and a 12" bigshot barrel. Is there a recommended way to adjust the velocity?

Thanks!

First, you should've read the manual before coming here. But anywho, there should be a small hole on the lefthand side of the 98 right above the foregrip. Theres a tiny screw in there and it needs to be adjusted with an allen wrench of the right size. Find the right sized allen wrench (the wrenches should've come with the gun) and twist th screw clockwise for increased velocity and counter-clockwise to deacrease it.

Actually I did read the manual, my question was geared more towards measuring the velocity.

Oh. In that case you'll need a chronograph as far as I know. You could get one at a paintball website that hangs around your neck for about $40 (correct me if I'm wrong). They're called barrel chronographs.

yes, you'll need a chronograph to measure velocity.

If your good you can mesure velocity with a block of wood and a string.

...with a chronograph tied to it.

so true so true. the only SAFE way is to use a chronograph but it you don't have one and you really want to play, just turn your velocity all the way down. its better to have lobs and bounces then a busted eye.

actually there is sort of a way... on mine anyway. inside, INSIDE, mind you, the recessed hole for the velo screw, there's a bit of a rim. when the screw is about even with that rim, thats where i keep mine. don't have it even with the little sheltering thingy, or it will shoot right out first time you use the gun...

Lance,
Your right about knowing where the screw should be set on your gun... But that depends on what else you've added (mainly barrel) to the gun.

When I first had my 98c (stock barrel) I had it set to 275 and as soon as I put a 14' teardrop my velocity went up to about 350.

I can't remember where the velocity screw was with the stock barrel but I found with the teardrop that I had to turn the screw all the way clockwise and then back about 1/2 turn to keep my gun below the field limit (275ft/s)

As a side note: I put in a rear velocity adapter and found that I get a little better air usage when I set the factory screw most of the way out and using the rear velocity adapter to get the velocity down.
