Ok..Where to start. The First upgrade is a barrel. See barrel thread. Second is to get an expansion chamber. You also have to get a vertical adapter for this. DO NOT be dumb and use teflon tape. Use loctite on the vertical, always use loctite. The expansion chamber is awesome if you are shooting C02, not HPA. Next, I would reccomend getting the Rocket Cock or the Rear Cocking. I'm saying this because I have an RT. Throughout this whole process I'm assuming you have a 12 Vlt. Revolution, anyone can outshoot a 9 Vlt. If you do not have an RT, get a double trigger before a cocking device. Increase rate of fire. Everyone else, feel free to add. c4pyro, thanks for the sticky-upgrade board.

Agreed...the barrel is the first thing to be replaced. I've put a flatline on mine. Other upgrades I've done:
Expansion chamber (Tippmann)
Double Trigger (Tippmann)
Polished and quieted the internals
That's it for now. Still thinking about rear cocking/RVA. But I'm also wanting to get an adjustable stock at some point. Can you do both? The stock, AND a RVA/Rear Cocking setup?

:wink2: :wink3: :agree: yeah yeah, like everyone else have said, the first upgrade u should get ur the tippy is a BARREL!!! i highly suggest getting the flatline because it as amazing range. well after the barrel, u should probably get a x-chamber. the only thing u shouldn't get for ur tippy is the rocket cock! since it's plastic it will easily break

About the Rocket Cock. Unless you have it, don't badmouth it. I have it, and people can tell the difference in guns. My dad has the same setup as mine minus the Rocket Cock, and it does silence it some. Being plastic doesn't mean it will break. Of course if you throw the up thing up against a damn rock it will break, but don't be dumb and do that. It's pretty durable. The only drawback is you have to have a 3/32 allen wrench for it. If that's a drawback at all. And you have to replace the bolt handle with a plastic one, which I was skeptical about. It hasn't failed yet, I repeat, yet. So don't badmouth it unless you have seen it break. You didn't say anything about it breaking in your post, so unless you have seen it break, leave the poor little Rocket Cock alone, what has it done to you?

I think my next upgrade is gonna be the Full Boar rear cocking/RVA setup. I've heard good things about it, and it looks nice.

About the RT
I dont suggest buying it it isnt worth the money for the amount of fire it increases your rof by
it is roughly $80 i would get a Full boar shadow or somother upgrade instead of the RT not suggested

see the thing is i did have it. And it broke on me, so if u want something to silence ur gun a little and keep dirt from getting into ur gun, get the full boar shadow or something like that.

Alright, so it did break on you. I'm one for specs'. How much paint did you put through it? what type of air was shot on it? Did you install it?(I hope you did, it is very easy to.) How often did you clean it? Was it oiled regularly? Where did it break on the Rocket Cock? That's it for now.

should i..
A) save money and get a full boar shadow
or
B)spend it all (possibly chirstmas present) for the low pressure?
do you even think B is worth it?
thanks

I personally think B isn't worth it. If you want your shots to be more consistant then get a GTA expansion chamber for about half the price. Now, about the Full Boar Shadow. If you are a sniper and are planning on getting a car stock in the future, don't get the shadow and get the Speee-t Cocker by Ballistic Sports. You can buy one at http://www.ballisticsports.com/item.jhtml?UCIDs=789502%7C828107&PRID=843109. You can save about $20 If you get the Speee-t Cocker also.
Oh yah BTW my setup is in my sig.

You can get one at http://www.countypaintball.com/product_description.asp?item=1197. But the item is backordered, so it will take a long time for you to get it. You can also get it for $3 more at http://www.ballisticsports.com/item.jhtml?UCIDs=789502%7C828107&PRID=867487. Or if you want one that has an RVA for $80, go to http://www.countypaintball.com/product_description.asp?item=1944.

Felony what do you have on your gun? do you run co2 or hpa. do you have a revvy? the lp kit is mostly for reduction of kick it really helps with a rt or ebolt if you dont have a reg and run c02 buy a palmer stabilizer its by far the best co2 reg and works better than any expantion chamber on the market it will increase your consistancy or buy hpa witch actually increases acuracy because moisture will collect in the barrel after a while when you play and the hpa will increase consistancy but buy a pmi tank or cross fire there both under 100 bucks make shore you can get it fill around you

When I first got my 98 I didnt have any money left to buty all of these upgrades. For you poor folks who like to tinker here are some free upgrades.
1. Polishing the stock barrel. Its easy, just take a plastic coat hanger and cut off the long straight end. Put one end into your drill (Dewalt Rules) And wrap a piece of cloth on the other end. the friction from the plastic will keep it from slipping. Next put some metal polish on the rag, any will do. I use Brasso. Put the end with the rag in the barel and let it rip. I polished mine for about an hour and when I was finished I did the same thing but with a clean rag, ran that through for about a minute or two. You will be quite impressed with the acuracy you will gain by doing this.
2. Polishing the internals. This just takes elbow grease. Use steal wool to clean of all of the black stuff on the inside were ever there are moving parts. after you have it nice and silver, hit it with a bit of metal polish, then finish off by a light oiling. Oh make sure all of the steal wool is cleaned out of your gun. This will make your action work a little quicker and a lot smoother
After I did these simple upgrades my 98 preformed 100% better than before. Try it:blah:

*NOTE* This is MY work, not someone elses.
For a long time, I have been telling people to e-mail me for a big saved message about upgrades for a Tippmann M98. I have decided to just copy and paste it here for all to enjoy. Here it is:
This is a saved draft about upgrades for your Tippmann Model 98 Paintball Marker. It will probably answer any questions you may have about upgrades. This message includes the following: Suggestions on how to choose upgrades for your model 98 (m98); How i chose my upgrades; My upgrade list; And a complete list of all the upgrades I know about for the m98 as of 10/21/00, including my rating of the upgrade, and the generall price range. I hope this helps.
HOW TO CHOOSE UPGRADES FOR YOUR M98
There are a few ways of doing this, and I will get to them both. Here is #1: Go to http://www.m98center.com/ and http://www.model98.com/ and then to the gallery section. Find a m98 that you like. List it's upgrades (at this time you may want to e-mail the owner of the gun, and ask him how he likes his gun, and specific upgrades you are curious about). Come back to this e-mail and down to the "COMPLETE LIST OF UPGRADES" section, and figure out what the upgrades do. Add mods you like/need, and take away mods you don't need. Make another list.
Now go to http://www.tippmann.com/ and then to it's forum. Ask about the upgrades on your list. Change accordingly. Search the web for the lowest possible price for the upgrades on
your list. Below are a few sites that i know are reliable, and have great prices:
www.bbtpaintball.com
http://www.countypaintball.com (My personal favorite because of
it's customer service! Very nice)
http://www.paintballgear.com
http://www.paintballdiscounters.com
Then make a final list similair to the one below under the section "MY UPGRADE LIST." Then earn money and buy upgrades!
HOW I CHOSE MY UPGRADES
I chose my upgrades by searching the web and doing reaserch about upgrades. I found out what upgrades did what, and if I thought they were neccecary. About that time I made a list. Then I asked the folks on the tippmann foum about the upgrades, and adjusted my list accordingly. Then I searched the web for the
lowest possible price. Finally, i made a final list that looks similair to this:
MY UPGRADE LIST
I have listed the mods #'s 1-11, 1 being the first thing to get, 11 being the last. I have also included the lowest price I have found for that upgrade, as of 7/21/00 and where I found it.

NOTE: this is MY list, your may be completely different. This is what type of list I am talking about. it would be a good idea to make one of those.
COMPLETE LIST OF UPGRADES
This is a complete list of mods available to the Tippmann Model 98 paintball marker as of 7/24/00, what they do, my rating out of 10, 10 being the best, and their general price range. If I am missing a mod, please e-mail me.There may be many different companys that make the same mod, thus a big price diff, and so some may be better than others.
Aftermarket Barrel: Aftermarket barrels decreases the noise your gun makes when shot, and increases the accuracy. I reccomend that
this be your first upgrade. for your convenience I will list what barrel I think is the best in terms of accuracy, noise level, range, overall, and best-bang-for-your-buck.
- Accuracy: this goes to the Lapco bigshot, the Dye boomstick, and the Smart Parts big daddy. They are all VERY accurate, but the bigshot is THE most accurate money can buy. it's only downside is that it's loud. The bigshot runs for $50, the boomstick runs for $110, and the big daddy runs for $110.
- Noise level: This one goes to the Smart Parts big daddy, wich is the quietist barrel out there today, in my opinion.
- Range: No contest here, it's the flatline! This barrel puts backspin on the ball, enabling it to travel 80ft-120ft farther than any other barrel! Contrary to popular belief, this is the ONLY, and let me
stress ONLY barrel that increases range. the flatline runs for $100-$130. I woulden't recommend you buy this system for a couple of reasons: #1: It promotes you to hanging back and being a 'chicken' because you have added range. #2: Even if you hit someone at long distances, it probably won't break because by the time it hits them, it'll be going about 150-200 fps! That's not enough to break! But I may be wrong on that theory. Some people say that the backspin helps the ball break, but I haven't noticed it. #3: The flatline is not a good short range barrel.
- Overall: This is a tie between the bigshot, the Dye boomstick, and the Smart Parts big daddy. But it all depends on what style of play you like, and again, this is MY opinion.
- Best-bang-for-your-buck: This award goes to the Lapco bigshot, wich, at $50 and being the most accurate barrel out there, it's GREAT! The only problem is that it's not as quiet as some aftermarket barrels. The general price range for a aftermarket barrel is anywhere from $30-$130. I would give a barrel a rating of 10/10! If you would like to see a barrel test site, go here:
Link
Tippmann Vertical Adapter: You litterally NEED this to hook up a expansion chamber (ex. cham.) or a regulator (reg.) I would give this item a 8/10, because a ex. cham. and reg. are not extremely important. The general price range is anywhere from $20-$30.
Expansion chamber: This 'expandes' the co2, allowing it more time to turn from a liquid state (the co2) to a gas state, thus ensuring that no liquid co2 enters your gun. Only useful when playing in cold weather, where co2 is likely to liquify. Not needed if you play with nitro or compressed air. I would give this a 10/10 if you play in cold weather; but if you don't, i would give it a 6.5/10. The general price range is anywhere from $30-$70.
Regulator: This item 'regulates' the amount or co2 that enters your gun, thus regulating your velocity for more consistent shots, and better accuracy. I would give this a 9/10. General price range would be anywhere from $40-$150.
Macro line: This replaces the steel braided hose that connects the ASA (the place where you screw in your co2 tank) to a expansion chamber or reg. It is easier to hook up, and unhook, and it can handle larger volumes of air. I would give this a 6/10. Much easier than finding the right steel braided hose! Price range would be anywhere from $10-$20.
Drop forwards: This moves the ASA down, and forward a bit, making your gun more compact. Perfect for people who want a more compact gun. If you are one of these people, I would give it a 8/10. Price range is anywhere from $10-$100.
Remote: This enables you to move your tank to a different position, like in your pocket, or in a harness. One end hooks into your ASA, and the other into your tank. There are two types of remotes, one is a steel-braided one, and the other is a coiled one. the steel braided one is generally tougher, and may last longer, but it dosen't offer very good flexibility. the coiled one
has great flexibility, but it may snag on bushes if you play in the woods. Both are excellent choices. If you like to shoulder it, no problem, just get a gas-thru stock. My rating: 8/10, price range: anywhere from $25-$60.
Gas-thru stock: This is a stock that screws into your ASA, and acts like a stock, but you can hook a remote into it. A great item if you like to shoulder your gun, and run remote. I would give it a 7/10. Price range is anywhere from $30-$75.
Gas-thru grip: This is a grip that hooks into your Tippmann Vertical adapter and just allows the co2 to pass through. It acts as a grip. I would give it a 3/10. price range: $15-$30.
Aftermarket foregrip: This replaces the stock forgrip. I would give it a 3/10. Price range: $10-$20.
Continued on next post!

11-03-2001, 06:55 PM
Double trigger: This makes your trigger a two finger trigger, thus allowing you to pull it faster. A good item if you like to shoot fast. If so, it's a 8/10. Price range: $20-$30.
Aftermarket grips: These go over your regular grips, giving it a better look, and feel. Rating: 5/10; price range: $10-$40.
Agitated loader: These include the 'revolution' series. They use paddles to shake up the hopper, so no jams happen, and so you get a consistent stream of paintballs. Practically NEEDED if your shooting 6+ balls per second. If so, it's a 10/10! Price range is anywhere from $30-$130.
RVA: a.k.a. Rear velocity adjuster. This improves the gas efficiency and lets you adjust your velocity easier. Better gas efficiency means more shots per tank. I give it a 8/10. Price range is anywhere from $20-$30.
Full Boar: This is a combonation of a rear cocking beavertail, and a RVA. It has a the benefiets of a RVA, and a rear cocking device. A good item to have. Looks great too! I give it a 9/10. Price range is anywhere from $40-$50.
Rear cocking device: This lets you cock your gun at the rear. It covers up the regular cocking spot, so no dirt or anything can get in your gun. It also partially silences the bolt slam. I give it a 7/10. Price range is anywhere from $20-$30.
Spring kits: These are usefull if you want to reduce your tigger pull, or if you've broken or worn a spring. I give it a 3/10. Price range is $8-$15.
Screw sets: These replace your regular screws with ones that don't rust, and are easier to field strip. I give it a 2/10. price range is $8-$14.
Full auto conversion kit: This makes your m98 fully auto. A great item. I give it a 4/10, becuase the new RT came out. I'm not getting it because then i may get into a habit of 'spray and pray.' Warning, it is very bulky. Price range is anywhere from $80-$100. I suggest the RT trigger though.
CAR-15 stock: This is a stock that goes where a RVA would go. It makes your gun look more like a rifle. You need a raised sight rail to sight, or else your mask would hit the stock. I give it a 7.5/10. Price range is anywhere from $60-$80.
Raised sight rail: This raises the sight rail. I give it a 3/10. Price range is anywhere from $15-$25.
Powerfeed: This is a elbow that replaces the built in one. It resembles a spyder's elbow. It feeds balls faster. You need a raised sight rail to see over the powerfeed though. I give it a 6/10. Price range is $25-$35.
Aftermarket cocking knobs: These replace your cocking knob. I give it a 2/10. Price range: $10-$15.
Nitro or compressed air system: This replaces regular co2 w/ either nitrogen, or compressed air. *Warning!* use ONLY nitro or compressed air tanks! NEVER use co2 tanks that are filled w/ nitrogen!!! It's advantages over regular co2 include: It won't liquify in cold weather, and it's much, much more consistent than co2. You will need a HPA (nitro or compressed air) system to run a low-pressure system for the m98. And it's also very, very useful for regulators (regs. were designed for HPA, not co2.) It eliminates the need for a expansion chamber too! I would only get it if you're going to be a very avid paintball player. If so, it's a 9.5/10, and the price range is anywhere from $50 to $550.
Aftermarket front bolts and power tubes: These replace the front bolt and powertube. I would stay stock though, because the stock is the best. I would give it a 0/10. Most bolts usually cause more damage, like breaking paint and things, with out doing anything better than the stock! Price range is anywhere from $15-$40.
Low pressure chamber: The only one available is at www.tippmann.com. Then go to their proshop. A low pressure chamber will ONLY work on nitro, or compressed air though. And you need a regulator to run it. As for what it does: A lpc (Low Pressure Chamber aka lpc) lowers your operating pressure wich means you get more shots per tank, and a more consistent shot, wich means greater accuracy. It also quiets the gun down quite a bit! The proshop is selling it for $120, and it comes with a RVA. I haven't seen it elsewhere. If you have the money for nitro, or compressed air, a reg, and the lpc, I would give it a 9.5/10.
Electric trigger trigger kit: This came out about 7 days ago, as of 10-21-00. From what i've heard, it's a very, very nice upgrade. It's an electric trigger kit, wich allows you to pull the trigger super fast, and shoot out of one of these 4 modes: semi-auto, 3 shot burst, 6 shot burst, or full-auto. From what i've heard, I give
it a 10/10, but i'll never get it because it promotes 'spray and pray' you can get it at www.countypaintball.com for $300. For what you get, it's a pretty good deal, but first take a look at the reactive tigger kit.
Reactive trigger kit: This is a reactive trigger kit that works in much the same way the trigger for the RT automag works. The reactive trigger kit uses some of the gas you use to blow the bolt back to pull the trigger back to normal. The gas would normally just exit and serve no purpose, but with the RT kit, it is used to push the trigger back to normal! That means that it
doesn't lower your gas efficiency at all! All you have to do is pull the trigger, because the reactive trigger is pulling it back to normal. It can go full-auto, if you put the right amount ofpressure on it, and i've heard people say that it can out-shoot an angel!!!! Very nice. I've also heard that the more pressure you put on the trigger, the faster the firing rate!!! I'd give this upgrade a 10/10! Very nice. You can get it from www.tippmann.com for $75. Very, very good price for what you get!!
that's it for the upgrades.
If you have any questions or comments at all, please feel free to tell me, or e-mail me at j_mart@lycos.com
Thanks!

long delay, but back to my question :]
i was interested in the low pressure kit or the full boar shadow.
my friend has had tons of probs with the lowpressure kit, but i wont go there.
i really like it, but i dont know if i should get it.
i currently run m98 original, flatline or stone cold II, 68ci crossfire tank, remote(christmas)
thats about it..
i think the low pressure would be sweet, but then i wouldnt be able to use CO2 again (not that i have since i got nitro) and it just would limit my gun..
what do you think of the full boar shadow??
thanks

Hi:
I am a new player to paintball and i am thinking of getting a Tippmann 98 C.
I will be putting on a new barrel and an expansion chamber.
IS the reactive tigger or response tigger any good. Does it break down too much and can you run Co2 iwth it.
Also, if i dont want the X pansion Chamber that Tippmann puts out, does the pro shop tech know how to put in another X pansion chamber in my gun.
Lets say i want the ACI 6 cycle one. Thanks for your time people.

CORRECTION they go in place of your stock grips
C_Giboney:
i suggest te psycho ballistics dorp forward it gives a good feel and also dont waste your money on the grips the stock are fine save the $15 or so and get a Full boar shadow
felony:
the lp kit is a little pricey, doesnt have a beavertail and must get another reg so you actually spend about $200 on it also it will empty your tank faster
i highly suggest the full boar shadow it is flush cocking and has a RVA
tofargasgon:
first off dont buy the tippmann x-chamber kit if you want a new x chamebr and not the one that comes with it just get a vertical adapter and hte 6 stage one you want you can do it your self nothing to it
i think the RT is over priced with a fast finger and trigger job you can just as fast also it works well on co2 but has alot off drop off in high rof

venturi bolts put a cushion of air behind the ball to limit ball breaks. Do not buy one. There is not a good one out there for the model 98. It isn't even worth it. THe stock bolt is very well designed for the tippmann.

way off buddy
you dont need an x-chamber after a stablizer that is useless no liquid or snow comes out of the stablizer it acts as a reg and an x-chamer an x-chamber after one is a waste now the other way around would be better
the most consistant m98 would be LP kit, mac dev gladiator, mac dev conquest

Im thinking of getting the following items for my M 98 Custom
-Responce Trigger
-Flatline
-12 Volt Rev hopper
-E chamber
-Stock and scope
-Double Trigger
Will I get problems with this? I heard that if I start shootin 3 or more shots per second, the flatline will break balls.
Can you give me a clear answer, and tell me what you think about my upgrading choice.

i personally would not get a response trigger because it will be difficult to shoot just semi-automatic, and u might go full auto when u dont want to. :(

the most consistant m98 would be LP kit, mac dev gladiator, mac dev conquest

Take a litte square of toilet paper, and place it over the elbow. If the square is blown off, then drilling holes, or getting a power feed with be useful. If it does nothing, or gets sucked in, they have no advantage. My Tippmann sucks the paper in. I don't even know why power feeds are even made for the M98, they're useless.

maybe something else, i dont remember. the barrel is a must. 1shot1kill was talking about polishing ur stock barrel, but a new barrel is such an improvement. the expansion kit i bought for cold weather, but it also ups my gas efficiency, so i like it (paintball on a budget) the polished internals was more of a help than a lot of people think. i read about it and thought wow, u make ur gun smooth and shiny, big deal. it helps ur gun operate more smoothly, more quielty, u dont get that gross black **** all over ur bolt, and it is shiny. the rear cocking was more just a personal preference thing, but it also help keep the inside clean.the drop was entirely personal preference, i couldnt stand having a tank under my arm when firing.
more of an off topic question, but did anyone else have a hard time inststalling the expansion chamber?
the connecting rod between the chamber reciever and the valve was just barely out of alignment with the milled seat in the shell on mine, and it was a pain in the ***. i think it might be b/c the threaded part that fits into the valve assembly is not quite at a 90 degree angle with the end of the connecting arm, so it doesnt line up when its put into the valve at a right angle

you need to buy a hp kit from tippmann, it costs about 120 dollars. my advice to you is this. dont. 98's arent worth putting hpa or nitro on. if you spen more than 100 dollars or so on upgrades other than the barrel, i say you spet too much. you could get a good cocker for a little more. wait till u have a tourney marker b4 nitro

Well, I want to play in some small tourneys and want to have a large air source, but don't want to spend a bunch of money on a marker. What cocker do you suggest that's under 500 that can use nitro? I'm getting a Tippmann M98 custom for $130, and I can upgrade it to nitro, and I'll only have put in about $230 on my marker.

The company that makes Voodoo stocks also makes an SS folding stock that isn't as elaborate. Being SS it might be a bit heavy and shiny for woods play if it matters ot you. Lapco makes universal drop forward/T stocks that are really nice. They don't fold, but they are cool. CAR stocks are also decent, I recommend springing the extra $20 for an AirTipps stock if you do decide to get a CAR. I'm not into the whole stock think mysel, but whatever suits you. www.countypaintball.com (http://www.countypaintball.com)

all the custom cockers out there are pretty expensive, and its more fun to build ur own anyway. just buy whatever color u want of the stock cocker ($350), then get a new barrel, then upgrade a few other parts. all cockers come standard with a nitro reg now, so you wont need to worry about extra equipment there. the stock cockers have gotten a ton better in the construction, so u dont need to replace much. the bolt is up to you, the ram is pretty good now, maybe a new reg, and a 4way. this will cost about 400-450, depending on the barrel and whether or not u ged a vert feed cocker. however, i am by no means an expert in the autococker field. this is a great site i found with information about the parts of a cocker about 6 months ago when i got interested in getting one. ravi's paintball (http://www.paintballravi.com/index.html).
as far as tourney play with a tippy, if your serious about tourneys, you might as well get a new marker now, cause youll need it later, and then you wont spend as much money on the tippy. if ur not srious, and just play in them every once in a while for fun, then use co2 and dont bother with the hpa or nitro.

As for the trigger depends if you want a double trigger or there is a spring that can replace the one the gun comes with that will lighten the trigger pull but I can't think which one of the top of my head.

New barrel (probably flatline, J&J Ceramic, or All American) and a sight of some sort

I jsut got it off ebay this week for $225 wat do you guys think good deal? I think im going to get a response trigger off my friend but I dunno yet. Anything else you would recomend to get?
Pingzilla
02-07-2002, 04:56 PM
as far as a sight is concerned, i borrowed one from a friend for a game or two, and it was a pain to set up before the game(not attaching it to the gun, but getting it calibrated for my barrel and such) in the game, i used it to fire a couple shots at first, then never again. it takes too long to look through the lens and then line up the target, and im a pretty good shot w/o any sort of sight anyway. i get more people pointing and shooting than i do aiming, and i was in the woods. in speedball, i wouldnt even consider maybe putting one on my gun.
the tippmann isnt made very well for getting any sort of r.o.f. it was made with traditional gun design in mind, made so it didnt feel like a toy gun. there isnt enough back-drop to rest on ur hands in order to relax ur hand for quick pulling. also, the front grip is too far forward for ur left hand, so it throws off the feel. i guess if u want to adapt to the weird position, u can waste 100 bucks on an rt. i would just go with the double, if that.
ronin-san

(if this is your new gun, and you don't already have a 12v)
1.) 12v rev or comparable electro loader.
2.) Barrel. lapco makes good cheap barrels that MAAAAANY people love.
3.) double trigger.
and this is where it gets weird.
Do you want to go part by part and go
co2
or
hpa
if so, do you want to part by part build up your marker?
I just shelled out the cash right away, and bough the LP kit.
No need to buy an expansion chamber (it does have a volumizer, though)
no need to buy a separate bottom line (comes with it)
no need to buy a rear cocking mechanism (comes with it)
no need to buy a rocket cock to cover up the bolt area (comes with it)
no need to buy a venturi or hyper star bolt (comes with it)
no need to buy a rear velocity adjuster (replaces stock valve with a low pressure valve, same stock velo adjust.)
Sure you have to buy a reg, but if you're going to run HPA you'll need a reg anyway (unless you run an Air America Bulldog (preset at 450)
and regs aren't that expensive.
I payed 170 for my reg and lp kit together. The other benefit to the LP kit is the increased shots per tank efficiency from the lower pressure (300-400psi vs 800+)
I TOTALLY think it's worth it.
OH YEAH, and you can easily run CO2 on the LP kit....just make sure you have an anti-syphon tank (a remote couldn't hurt, either).
It can be done.

ronin-san
02-23-2002, 12:19 AM
the trigger shoe is a piece of crap that goes OVER the stock trigger....sorta like the trigger boot you may have seen on cockers.
just make sure to get a double trigger with a full guard. there's about 3 types of double triggers (different guards). it's all preference, I think.

so does anyone now of a good upgrade for the internals in a custom 98? or are stock the best or what?
Pingzilla
02-28-2002, 09:34 AM
i have stock internals and they work fine. i polished the inside of my clamshell, which got rid of all the sprayover anodizing, eliminating that black goop that gets on the bolt when oiled. the only thing thats different is my back bolt, but thats because of a full boar system; the stock bolt is better than most after market ones. some people like to upgrade their front bolt, but a lot of them have problems with the new one, and the tippmann one is just fine.
ronin-san
02-28-2002, 11:15 AM
I bought the low pressure kit, which swaps out ALL the parts but the bolt linkage and the front bolt
it requires that you buy a separate regulator to run it, but man it's sweet.
some people who want to stay co2 buy the bottom line and the expansion chamber separate. ( atleast 50 bucks )
then they buy a rocket cock (20 bucks )
and a rear velocity adjust (15 bucks )
or they'll buy the full boar flush cocking knob with the rear velocity adjust. (50 bucks )
It's real easy for people to say the Low Pressure Kit is expensive.........until you consider the price they spent separately.
and the parted together stuff doesn't increase your shots per tank, like the LP kit does. people claim around 1200 shots per 68 3000, instead of 800. Yeah, that's PLENTY reason for me to get one.
I cannot reccomend it highly enough. GO LP!
( oh yeah, and it can be ran on CO2, so long as you have the proper regulator )

i reccomend to stay away from the rocket cock. my rt chopped balls like mad and the cocking "ring" or whatever psycho ballistics wants to call it moved with my bolt with every shot. when i took it out, my gun worked better than ever. this could be solved with a little sanding , maybe so. but i'd rather buy a product that works in the first place.

Kinda depends on your type of play as to which of the upgrades you'd appreciate in the end. How you play, what you play and what you need your marker to do is in the end the deciding factor in what upgrades you should get. Do you want to impress? Do you wnat to frighten people? Do you want to rain a hail of mechanical full auto fire on newbies? Do you want an up-front rig that is striking and effective? Do you need ruggedness that will hold up on 24 hour games? Up to you.:)
-=RA=-
03-02-2002, 08:53 AM
Do you run N2 or C02? If you run C02 and you get the Repsponse Trigger, then you basically need an expansion chamber; otherwise you run the risk of freezing you internals. The RT lets you shoot fast enough that the liquid c02 in you tank might not have enough time to vaporize, and that might freeze up your internals: not good. If you run N2, freezing up won't be a problem since it is stored as a gas, not a liquid. The Full Boar (I reccommend Shadow) is good for quieting your gun down a bit (but not a lot) and keeping crap from getting inside the gun. Also, I don't know if it is just my perception, but the gun looks a lot slimmer with the Full Boar Shadow on it.
Here's a thought: How expensive is the x-chamber you want? You could look at the Psycho Ballistics X-Core x-chamber, because it is an 8-stage chamber and is only $15. It's cheap so you could also get the RT. That would give you some pretty good fire-power and you wouldn't run the risk of freezing up your gun.
Hope that rant was helpful :|

this is a great upgrade for a M98C. its pretty mech like the full bore rear cocker from tippy but this ones a little bigger and it has a velocity adjuster.only problems ive had with this is that with some guns, it won't let the gun recock for some reason and the beaver tail is a little bulky, but other than that, I give it a 9 outa 10

So, uh, yeah... When's someone going to answer GreenPic's question about silencing the internals? As a newbie, personally, the last thing I want to do is jack up the inside of my gun. I also don't want to alert them from across the field with the loud report of my marker. How do you silence the internals?
I have two more questions: what exactly is an example of good small-bore paint? People always say 'small bore' but often shy away from naming brands.
My last question: Is there any good advice out there for a new mid-field woods player?
Mimos
03-03-2002, 10:29 AM
To silence the internals (And some external.) your going to need some foam tape, a rubber band, and some scissors.
Put four tiny squares/rectangles of foam tape on the front of the rear bolt. Or you can cover the whole front of it, but, when I did that the valve rod tore through the tape with repeated use. Stops the metal on metal noise when the bolt slams into the valve.
Place some tiny rectangels of foam tape between the bottom of the gun handle and the asa. Stops that metal 'ping' noise from being amplified in your tank.
Take two more rectangles of foam tape and place them on the part of the elbow that meets up with the gun body. Not the hinges, but the walls of the elbow that face the gun. Stops that annoying hopper shake.
Take your rubber band and cut it so it becomes a rubber strip. Then loop it through the sear spring and tie it off. Then cut off the excess. The rubber band absorbs the springs vibrations from when you cock the gun and the sear clicks into place.
You can also put a square of electrical tape underneath the rear bolt where the sear locks into place. Takes away that metal on metal noise. I tried that, but the tapes glue always wore off from all the oil.
These are only a few main ones. There are many more that you can do. Go to www.m98center.com for more details. Look in the 'How to' link.

In case you don't know, the Full Boar Shadow is a Rear Cocking/Rear Velocity Adjuster. On top of that it is also flush cocking, which means that there are no externally moving parts that shoot backwards whenever the gun recocks. It also covers up the side-cocking port on the -98, so it is slightly quieter and keeps dirt and debris out. In my opinion it is one of the best deals for the -98.
And in response to Cube and Greenpic:
The ways that I know of making the -98 quieter (as far as I know it cannot be SILENT) is by adding a few things:
1. A barrel with lots of porting: this reduces the sound of the shot.
2. Something like the Full Boar Shadow RC/RVA: it covers the side cocking slot and subtracts a little bit from the noise.
3. Low Pressure system: expensive, but detracts a lot from the noise from what I hear.
4. Polishing the inside of the gun: makes the inside smoother so the noise is reduced a bit.
5. Any/All of the custom mods that Mimos has just written: I have a bunch on my gun and they do work.

How quiet is the FULL BOAR... I want one of these, can you guys please explain the performance with this... how it handles... thanks..!!
-=RA=-
03-05-2002, 01:17 PM
First off, there are two Full Boars. The regular Full Boar RC/RVA is less expensive, but not very good from what I hear. The Full Boar Shadow RC/RVA is a bit more expensive, but I haven't been dissappointed with it.
The Full Boar Shadow replaces the entire rear bolt, covers the side cocking slot, adds rear cocking and a rear-velocity adjuster. On top of that the rear-cocking is flush rear-cocking. Everytime the gun recocks after a shot, there are no externally moving parts. No beaver-tail, so less stuff to break. Incase you don't fully understand: on flush-cocking you pull the rear piece, its is sticking out of your gun, all the way out. Then you push it back in so it clicks and stays in place. Everytime you shoot the gun, the rear bolt moves back and forth to recock, but the part you pull on to cock it stays in the gun without moving. Hence FLUSH-cocking: it never moves. In my opinion, a much better deal than the regular Full Boar.
So you don't have any misconceptions: it does not really make the gun quiet. Instead of hearing the gun from 200 yards away, someone can only hear it from like 175 yards. Not too much of a difference, but the other features are what make the Shadow a good buy.

Get a regulator, a pmi regulator is good enuf, it will give you much more consistant shots, and act similar to a expansion chamber, giving co2 time to turn to gas... but not that good.. it will also silence your gun a little. the set screw fell out, and after that NO air passed through it.
so I didn't get to play with it ONCE, and PMI has had it for a month and a half now.

is there anything else i need to get to run a lp system on my custom 98? i don't have an expansion chamber.

you'll need a reg to run the LP kit.
seems like alot of cash. It's not. It's VERY much worth it.
It replaces EVERYTHING inside your marker (except the front bolt, linkage arm, and trigger assembly).
so you get a completely new set of internals that run on 350 or less psi. I say 350 or less, because tippmann bundles their reg with their nitro 98c kit.
and their reg has an adjustable output pressure of 175-350 psi.
That's WAAAAAAAAAAY below the stock cvx valve's 800-2000 psi operating pressure.
so get a reg, but get a GOOD reg. DO NOT buy a Pure E inline reg. Hope that helps.

Full Boar is a company that makes paintball products. I'm not sure if they have a website, but their customer support through e-mail is awesome.
The Full Boar Shadow is a FLUSH Rear-cocking/Rear Velocity Adjuster. The rear velocit adjuster works fairly simply, you turn the screw in the back clockwise to increase pressure on the main spring (increase velocity), or counter-clockwise to decrease pressure on the main spring (decrease velocity).
However, the flush rear cocking system is kind of complicated. I'm not sure if you're familiar with the original Full Boar RC/RVA, but the Shadow is much better. Originally (on the original Full Boar) you would pull the rear-cocking knob to cock the gun. This knob would move backwards, to recock the gun, everytime you shot the gun. This required a beaver-tail to keep the knob from hitting you in the face. The Shadow is a step up from that. The Shadow incorporates Flush cocking. The Flush cocking knob sits flush to the gun. You pull it back to cock the gun, then push it back into its original position. Due to the design of the cocking knob, the knob does not move back and forth everytime you fire the gun. It sits flush with the gun the entire time. This means no beaver-tail, less things to break, and a slimmer looking gun.
This does come at a price though: It costs $50 (www.countypaintball.com), as compared the the Original Full Boar's $40. In my opinion the extra $10 is more than worth it. The Shadow is more reliable and more durable than the Original Full Boar.

First and foremost, buy a longer barrel. The stock barrel is too short. Your balls won't go as far but your accuracy will improve. A 14" barrel gives you a noticeable difference without sacrificing how far you shoot. My M98 had sights on it when I got it and I don't really see a need for them. The rear cocker was a nice add-on, too. I have the double-trigger and it's great. It definately makes shooting more comfortable. My favorite upgrade on my M98 is the drop forward. What a difference in balance especially, with the bigger CO2 tanks.

No joke, for the price, the Nytestick. I love mine, and use it on my Tippmann, Scorpion, and let my boy use it on his spyder sometimes. It is light, honed to a mirror finish inside, and I get better performance from it being the same bore size the full length than any of the 2-part barrels with 2 different bore sizes. Except maybe a carbon fiber. The Nytestick and carbon fiber with stainless base are my favorites on all my guns. But that's just me.

Personally, I like the Psycho Ballistics X-core 8-stage Expansion chamber. It has more than enough room to convert all the liquid C02 to gas, and is really cheap. About $15 at www.countypaintball.com The only thing is that you will need a 90* connector elbow ($2) if you use steel-braided cable. Or macroline fittings if you use macroline.

If your main gun is a tippy you are *probably* not a bigtime tourney player, ive seen some tippies at big tournies but c0ckers, impy's, angel's and timmy's are alot more common(poor spyder trash users, besides a few shutters that just die in the tournies i never see those), that is one reason i urge ALL of you to not get a RT, learn to kick *** with it on semi, it takes more to learn and you will be a better player because of it... same reason i tell people to start with a pump, you will be quicker, smarter and overall BETTER for doing it that way.
dont get a RT, you seriously dont need one.

"Do you run N2 or C02?
Hope that rant was helpful" -=RA=-

im thinkin of buying a flatline for my M-98c. i already got a xchamber on it. im also gonna buy a remote system and the pro team FX collapsable stock. i was also thingin of buying the RT for my weapon aswell. im just wondewring if anyone out there has the flatline, and response trigger setup and if it is any good. i want to get the RT for speed ball, got the stone cold 2 barrel and it rips. any feedback is appeciated.

04-05-2002, 05:10 AM
The flatline is EASY to install... just take out the rear sight, put the shroud on, screw in the attachment, slide the barrel through the shroud and into the attachment, Force it in while wiggling the barrel, make sure it goes all the way in. THen look for the front teardrop on the barrel, and line this up with the front sight. Make sure u get it as straight as possible, and thats it... it took me 2 minutes the first time i ever did it.
Performance... well as soon as you break a ball your screwed.... ever one after will curve drastically. I even cleaned mine the best I could and there was still a little paint stuck in the barrel.. this was a huge piss off.. unless you got a really good squeegie, and SOME GOOD PAINT (I had this crappy sport zap paint) you'll shoot good.
When Shooting, the balls go pretty damn far, and they look like they're going in slow motion, and a very flat trajectory. You need Small to med bore paintballs in order to get the right backspin. The barrel is large bore, and will shoot large bore paintballs (i tried brass eagle) but not as good as med bore.
RT with the flatine, I have never seen it done, but i have heard of one person. I think they said if you have a 12v revy and good paintballs it shoots good.
You should be happy with the barrel if you install it correctly, and if you use the right paint. I sold mine recently, and now i'm looking for a Smart Parts, lapco, or Dye barrel... the flatline just wasnt right for me (mostly because of the ****ty paintballs where I live)

I'm not sure what you're talking about, having your gun unbalanced too much with the vert kit/exp ch. and a 20 oz. I have that exact setup. I've got the Tippy ex. ch. with the vert adapter, and a 20oz. tank, and it's not that unbalanced at all. True, a drop forward helps (and I'm getting one very soon), but it's not that bad... *scratches head*
As far as how long it takes you to get your 98 apart...well..practice. Trust me, it DOESN'T take me NEAR that long to get my 98 apart. 5 minutes...max.

Does the starfier bolt really help that much? i was thining of getting one cause i mean they are cheap but i dont know if it will make my gun better or woorse cause i practically have everything i need right now and i'm also thinking of gettin the full boar rear cocking.
-=RA=-
04-15-2002, 10:38 AM
Many people will tell you that the aftermarket bolts for the -98 are not worth getting. Personally, though, my Starfire helps my gun shoot better. With my stock bolt on the gun, I was getting roughly a 9 inch spread when shooting. I put on the aftermarket bolt, and was able to bring it down to a 6.5 inch spread.
However, since the bolt is relatively cheap (can't remember what I paid), you can buy it and see if you like it. If you don't, say it works great and sell it online:D
oh yeah, get the Full Boar Shadow RC/RVA. It's better than the regular Full Boar.
hey i have 2 questions:
1.) What is the Full Boar Shadow and what does it do?
2.) What does the Rear Cocking kit w/ Beavertail do for your gun besides looks and eliminating dirt inside the gun?
-=RA=-
04-16-2002, 06:24 PM
1. The Full Boar Shadow kit is a Rear Cocking/Rear Velocit Adjuster. It is also a flush rear cocking...meaning that you cock it, push the knob back into the gun, and fire it. The knob doesn't move back and forth everytime your gun cycles, so there is no need for a beavertail. The purpose of the Shadow is to make it easier to cock and adjust the velocity, keep debris out of the gun (the kit adds a side cover for the old cocking slot), and also serves to quiet the gun a little.
2. I'm not sure what Rear Cocking Kit w/Beavertail you're talking about, but most kits only serve the purpose of adding rear-cocking. Rear-cocking is considered by some to be easier and more convenient than the side-cocking of the -98, plus the kit will cover the side slot meaning there are less places for dirt to get into the gun.
Anyways, hope that answered your question.
yeah u did answer my questions basically. THANKS, i mean it. This is the Rear Cocking Kit w/ Beavertail I was talkin about though. If any of you have any info on it and its purpose and stuff, then post please. Thanks again =RA=

I have my gun's basic layout (obvious upgrades). However I need some help in getting some upgrades most people pass over.
My gun set up is for sniping and cover fire, etc. etc.
M98
Stone Cold II
CAR Stock
Java Remote Control System
12v Revolution
I need help in picking a good quality bolt, vertical adaptor, velocity adjuster (if neccesary), cocking, and weather I should use compressed air or a 20oz and any other types of upgrades you guys think I should get. :)
Also where in gods name can I even FIND a Stone Cold II barrel?!? I've looked everywhere and I've yet to see one for sale.
-=RA=-
04-21-2002, 05:35 AM
First off, don't get the Stone Cold II. Get a Lapco Bigshot barrel, it is more accurate, smaller, and same range (length of barrel does not determine range) as the Stone Cold II. It is also cheaper, $50 at www.countypaintball.com
Second, I'm going to tell you to get the TASO Starfire bolt (www.shop4paintball.com). Others will say that a new bolt has no effect on the way the -98 shoots, but I disagree. I think the Starfire strikes the ball with a better surface area, which does channel the air over a more even surface area of the ball...increasing accuracy.
Third, if you have the money and are willing to spend it, get Nitro (aka. Compressed Air). Since you're a support player, you would want more shots, so look for a 68-88 ci, 3000-4500 psi tank. Higher psi rating will let you get many more shots per fill. A good quality tank will cost you over a $100, so be prepared to spend that much. I'm not an expert on Nitro tanks, so you'll have to figure that one out yourself. Any
Since you mention getting a vertical adaptor, I take it you mean to get an expansion chamber or a regulator. The only vertical adaptor for the -98 is the one made by Tippmann ($20 at www.countypaintball.com). For a nitro setup on your -98, I'd reccomend a Palmer Stabilizer regulator since it is very consistant. Hell, I'll even reccomend it for a C02 setup since it handles C02 just as well as nitro. You'll have to look around to find this item. Oh yeah, you might need some additional pieces (connector elbows, shorter hoses, etc.) that are specific for what setup you choose, so you'd need to find that out also.
Next, I reccommend a Full Boar Shadow Flush Rear Cocking/Rear Velocity Adjuster. It adds rear cocking to your gun (giving it a sleeker look), rear velocity adjusting (easier to adjust the velocity), and covers up the side cocking slot on the -98 (keeps dirt and debris out of the gun). It is also Flush cocking, meaning that you cock it once, push the knob back in, and fire. There are no external moving parts, the cocking knob stays where it is and does not move every time the gun cycles. Cost is $50 at www.countypaintball.com
Just a suggestion: if you're going to be in a cover fire roll get a Response Trigger for the -98. It doesn't require Nitro, so you don't need that. The RT will let you shoot very fast and lay down massive amounts of cover fire, making you invaluable to the team. Plus, it is should be tourney legal since it is still technically a semi-auto. I have one and it is easy to install plus really reliable. It should be about $80 at www.countypaintball.com
I hope that this rant helps you in any way.

I haven't used the Rocket Cock, but I have heard that it is made out of plastic and not very durable; that it breaks easily. From personal experience I would say get a Full Boar Shadow. It has been quite easy to use and maintain, plus Geph at Full Boar is one of the best at customer service. If anything goes wrong with the Full Boar and he can't help you fix it, he'll send you a replacement. Not a replacement piece, but a brand new Full Boar. Great service in my opinion.
My advice to you is to get the Full Boar Shadow. It is reliable and backed by one of the best customer supports ever.
Hope that answered your question.

Dude the RT is awesome. I have it and I love it. It's adjustable so you can customize it. It's just a little knob by the safety. And if you shoot fast enough for your gun to freeze, then your probally gonna be chopping balls anyway. However, Nitrogen and a warp feed make it shoot alot faster. Not that you need it to or anything. It's hard to make it only shoot once though. I usually shoot 3 or 5 shot bursts. Thats really easy to do once you play with it a little. I just have a rt, boomstick barrell, and a 12oZ co2 and some dude wanted to give me his autococker for it. It is a great upgrade, no drawbacks as far as I am concerned.
Mimos
05-03-2002, 08:25 PM
It's not hard to make it shoot just once....
Only drawback to the RT: You will use up more air than you would w/o it.
Oh, yeah, Tonyr, no, it won't screw up your gun. Just take it out, and put it back in carefully so you don't strip the threads.
To take it out, you need to unscrew the nut that goes into the power tube first. Then, once that is off, you can unscrew the adjuster side. Then, pop out the piston from the receiver.

Hey guys. I have a couple of quesions for ya. Look at my marker setup and tell me if this would help make the gun shoot faster. I'm thinking about a new bolt and polished internals. Also can you polish your internals your self and if so how? And what can I do about that pesky o-ring that floats around behiend the rear bolt?:eyes:
Thanks in advance.:D
Mimos
05-05-2002, 06:54 PM
Don't worry about a new bolt. The stock ones work just fine.
To pollish the internals, get some fine or ultra fine steel wool, (Steel wool is much, much better to use than sand paper.) and rub down all the surfaces where there are moving parts. Rub those surfaces until the black/silver paint is all gone and it is nice and smooth. Then get a rag and some aluminum safe metal pollish. Buff the pollish into all those rubbed down surfaces. Wipe off any excess, oil and reassemble the gun.
Oh, yeah, pollishing it will only speed up the cyclic rate by a few milliseconds, but hey, every little bit helps.
That O-ring, well, just leave it alone. Mine usually stays put with a little bit of oil however.

It could corrode it, gunk up, stain, harden to it, soften the metal. I dunno, the metal polish is a little coctail of chemicals, alot of things could happen, or nothing at all.
Test it on a small inconspicuous space first. Like the area that holds the rear sight in place. Those little, tab, sight-holder, thingies (Hooray adjectives.:)) would be a good place to test it out.

Hmmm ok, Ill think about it. Would I need anything else besides what I have now for an expansion chamber? Materials to install or parts needed?
BTW DO YOU think I can use my GTA expansion chamber with the RT? Or need a bigger one..i think GTA's chamber is only 4stages..but yours "RA" is like 8...

05-11-2002, 09:27 PM
You won't need anything extra, but I would highly reccommend a 12v Revvy hopper. When you fire fast, you will outshoot your hopper's feed rate. A 12v Revvy will help keep a ball in the chamber every time you fire. Other than that, I have no reccommendations that you could need.
PS Your GTA chamber would work and i don't know what kind of performance effect the different chambers would have. my x-chamber only costs $15, so if you wanted to try it, it's not a huge waste of money. However, you would need to get new hoses and things to connect from this chamber to your ASA. Total cost (not including RT) would run about $20-$30.

With co2 the only way to really freeze your gun is to turn the rt all the way up, and let it fly for about 500 shots. Now I don't think anybody does that so you should be fine. I ran my rt on co2 without an x-chamber for a long time and I never had any trouble. However, nitrogen dramatically increases the speed of the rt, fast enough to outrun a 12v revvy. And by the way, the richochet ak is a better hopper anyway.

Accurate: Upgrading to nitrogen and a regulator will give you better shot consistency and accuracy, but the money required for that would be $200+. Personally, the aftermarket TASO Starfire bolt helped make my gun more accurate...however, other people will tell you it doesn't help. Only other way for more accuracy is to get a $100+ barrel, but your Bigshot is still one of the best barrels accuracy wise.
Quiet: For quieter firing, a Full Boar Shadow Rear Cocking/Rear Velocity Adjuster will diminish the sound by a little, but not by much (still a great upgrade). Other than that, a new barrel like the All American would be the best way to decrease the noise level of the -98 (I know you said not to suggest a new barrel, but that is the best way for you to quiet the -98. Personally, I like the Bigshot. It may be kinda lound, but it has the best accuracy of the barrels. However, since you like the Bigshot you should keep it...it's a great barrel).
Fast: Get a Response Trigger. It will dramatically increase your rate of fire. Either that, or get a Electro kit (only problem is that you have to upgrade to nitro with the electro kit). Other than those two, get a double trigger kit...it will also give you a noticable increase in fire speed.
Anyways, those are my suggestions. Hope they were helpful in some way.

This is my setup, I beleive that it is a very good setup. But also I spent lots of money to get it to this. But insted of having to buy a new trigger fram I just dropped it in. Here it is.
Tippmann 98 custom
Lapco BIgShot Barrel
Respnse Trigger
Vertical adpter
Expansion Chamber
Doubel Trigger
Rocket Cock
RVA
Lapco Drop Forward with T-stock
12 volt revvy
20 oz Tank-soon to go nitro-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lapco BigShot-It is accurate and can accept almost any type of paint.(great for FPO fields!)
RT-This alows the trigger to bounce of your fingers creating "trigger bounce". Its a very nice product. Makes you shoot faster.
Vertical adapter-needed for an Expansion Chamber.
Expansion Chamber(tippmann)-Its awesome. Helps Prevent the liqued CO2 for entering the gun, therefor more efficant use off of CO2,almost a need for the avid CO2 user.
Doubel Trigger-Lets you use two fingers to shoot. Its more comfy(to me) its a nice thing to get,and you dont have to get a new trigger frame!
Rocket Cock-It covers side cocking panel, quiets it down a bit and you wont get dirt or paint in there. Very nice. I just had the extra money so I got it. but it prevents those pain the butt marker shots.
RVA(psyco ballistics)-it just allowes you to adjust the velocity form the rear, use the origanal velicty screw to get it down where it needs to be then fix it exactly from the rear.
Lapco Drop forward with T-stock-its a drop forward. Its a stock. Its all in one.
12 volt revvy-needed if you shoot fast,or needed. feeds balls faster. 10-12 BPS. its a great hopper for the price.
20 oz CO2 tank-just a 20 oz CO2 tank. The RT uses Exces gas used during fire to push the trigger back. but it does use some air. Thats where the expansion Chamber comes into use.helps prevent the RT from freezing and also kinda helps prevent the RT from wasting gas, even thouugh it uses Exces gas during fire to reset the trigger. Just a bigger tank thats all.
My Gun is for sale if anyone is instreted. offer for it right now is $350.
I usse Diablo Midnights thew my barrel just FYI.

I would reccomend this setup...its how my 98 is setup anyway...
RT trigger
lp/nitro kit
starfire bolt(not sure if it makes a difference, but my last 98 only chopped one ball out of about 10,000, really :D )
GX2 Reg or Black Magic Reg (or at least a decent one)
Double Trigger
System X Grips
nitrogen (preferrably a big one, cause the RT rips)
This is a somewhat expensive setup, but it will perform...

The e-bolt will work with C02...just not as well as if it were used with nitro.
The best way to use C02 with the e-bolt would probably be to run it from your tank into a remote into a Palmer Stabilizer. FYI: do not run anti-syphon on a remote...if you do, the tube will suck liquid C02 into your gun, which is not good. Anti-syphon must be used on a horizontal tank.
Drawback: Palmer Stabilizer costs about $90 and a good remote will cost $30. That is $120. For that much you could buy a decent Nitro tank and not have to worry about whether the e-bolt will work or not.
Hope that helped. If it didn't, just keep posting your questions.

I dont exactly see the point for an expansion chamber a remote does it better and it saves much c02 they say you can only get about 1100 rounds off of a 20 oz tank I got almost 3500 rounds and I aint joking its also more comfterble and I dont even have an electronic hopper not one ball broke in my flatline and I shot as fast as I could and it could still go faster
-=RA=-
06-14-2002, 07:09 AM
Let me just say that that sounds grossly exaggerated (despite you saying it's not). When I had my Flatline -98 and a remote setup, I only got 500 or 600 out of a 12oz. I then added an expansion chamber to my remote setup and I still got 500 or 600 shots from a 12oz.
Expansion chambers are not inefficient on gas...they do not cause some of the gas to be lost...they simply provide more room for liquid C02 to convert to a gaseous form. A remote can also provide this room...it was just not the original purpose of a remote to act as an expansion chamber. Remote served to remove the tank from the gun (i happen to like my tank on my gun).
It's great that a remote can also be used as a sorta x-chamber, but remotes sometimes cost $30 or more, and you can get a high quality x-chamber (i.e. PB X-core) for about $16.
Oh, and to the guy who posted before me, I'd check to make sure the guy who fills your C02 tank is not overfilling your tank. If you're getting 3500 shots out of it, it sounds like there is a lot of C02 liquid in there, and over-pressurizing might occur...resulting in a loud explosion, loss of your gun, and (more importantly) dismemberment of your self.

hey felony... u could still use Co2 and it would work better because the low pressure chamber only pust a fixed output of pressure on the gun (300 psi- 450 psi). It doesnt matter what kind of gas you use... whether its co2 or nitro it doesnt matter
I'm geting an X chamber and i will be running Co2.
I know I have to have th vertival adaptor, but I was wondering if the X chamber that comes in the kit with the adaptor is any good.
If not, will other X chambers work with the vertical adaptor
Thanks
-=RA=-
06-26-2002, 01:22 PM
I believe that the expansion chamber that comes in the GTA Kit is a 3-stage (someone correct me if I'm wrong). That should be adequate. I prefer my Psycho Ballistics 8-stage X-core over the GTA expansion chamber simply because it has better capacity of converting liquid C02 to gas. It is also better to have this extra ability if you are firing long strings of shots because there will be less of a chance of liquid getting into your gun.
I'm not sure how much it would cost, but I would reccomend this: buy PB X-core, new fittings, new hose, and the vertical adaptor. I think I did some research and this cost either the same as the GTA Kit, or a couple dollars more expensive. If it costs more, the advantage would be you are getting a much better expansion chamber over the GTA chamber.
Oh, and all expansion chamber will work with the GTA Vertical Adaptor.

when using the RT, how do u know when the gun freezes? doesnt recock? doesnt shoot?
-=RA=-
07-01-2002, 09:31 AM
It takes a lot to technically freeze up the gun...such as shooting off the entire hopper with the RT on set on full speed. Usually you're not going to do this. But if it does freeze up, then the gun will stop functioning...it won't shoot. Usually you know to stop when the gun starts to get cold to the touch where the gas goes through it. Like my expansion chamber will start to get condensation on it when I've shot too fast...and the fittings for the RT hose will start to have frost on them. That's how you can usually tell if you've frozen your gun, or if the gun is close to freezing.
Simple fix is to just stop shooting for a minute or so when you notice the gun getting cold.

things to make your gun quieter, put one of those things you put on the bottom of a chair so it will not scrathc the wood floor, thats all i can think of. Yo can cut your stock barrel down so it is very small. replacing you sear spring with rubber bands was my best upgrade(if you can call it one, it makes your pull so lightyou just take out your sear spring and put in a rubber band

anyone know the smallest you can cut the stock barrel?.... cuz i heard if its too small, the ball wont go anywhere. also, you could use a circular piece of styrofoam to prevent so much noise. cut the foam into a circle to fit around the valve pin, make a hole for the valve pin. put the styrofoam in and you have a quieter gun.

Have you tried a 3-stage and an 8-stage? Or did you just hear that on the internet?
I have tried them. I had the GTA x-chamber, and the PB X-core, and I prefer the PB. Using the GTA I would get velocity spikes of +/-10fps, with the PB I know have them down to +/-6. Because of better consistency, my accuracy has improved slightly.
Also (prices from www.countypaintball.com):
GTA Kit: $43
Custom Built PB Kit:
Tippmann Vertical Adaptor:$20
PB X-core (black): $14
New Connections (for stock gun setup): Steel Braided Hose (4-8in, not sure which) $6, 1-90* elbow (into PB X-core) $2 : $8
Total: $42
Hmmm.....better performance for a dollar less? Yeah, that's what it looks like to me. Only hassle is that you have to click on more things to order it. And that doesn't seem like too big a deal, does it?

How many times this has been posted, we may never know:
Think all of your upgrades through to make sure you need them. Don't get caught in the "upgrade everything at one time" fever. Maybe upgrade one or two things, see how they perform, figure out how they work...then get more if you think you need it. One thing that I see: why sink the money into a sight rail? Do you really need it? Can you not hit the broad side of a barn with the stock sights? Just ask yourself questions like these whenever you think about upgrading a part and you'll most likely upgrade wisely.

The first upgrade I did to my Tippmann Custom was a barrel. I highly recommend the 14" Black J&J Ceramic Barrel, this barrel makes the gun deadly. Next thing I done was installing the Tippmann Expansion Kit, which is a Vertical Adapter, Expansion Chamber, and loctite (use this stuff, it works!, don't waste your time with teflon tape, it won't hold, and there will always be a leak somewhere). After that, I suggest a drop forward, I put a black Psycho Ballistics universal drop forward on mine, this will make you a littler target to the enemy. That is all that I have done to my gun at the present time. What I am wanting to do now is install a Psycho Ballistics Spee-T-Cocker. This is a product similar to the rocket cock, but this one is made out of pure grade aluminum, and the cocking mechanism is a t-shaped arm, not a little stupid ring. They make this product in bout any color you like. You can get it off of Psycho Ballistics web site for $30. When I get mine, I am going to take some black paint and spray over the logo which is white. After that there is really nothing left to do. I mean I would love to put a RT on it, but I am a conservative shooter, so that wouldn't do me any good. RT's waste too many paintballs. Why shoot a person with 20 paintballs, when you can knock them out with a couple. I might put a double trigger on my gun, I will just have to wait and see. TO ALL THE WOODSBALLERS, YOU CAN GO TO YOUR LOCAL GUN SHOP NOW, AND GET THIS NEW TAPE THEY HAVE THAT STATIC CLINGS, IT DOESN'T LEAVE A GLUEY RESIDUE LIKE THE OLD STUFF, TAKE THIS STUFF AND WRAP IT AROUND YOUR ENTIRE GUN EVEN THE GAS LINE, THIS WILL MAKE YOU ELITE IN THE WOODS!

Biggest reason would be price. For C02 use, the palmer Stabilizer is better than most expansion chambers. However, it does cost about $90. Instead, I spent $16 on a Psycho Ballistics X-core. I get decent consistancy out of it (+/- 5fps), and it keeps liquid out of my gun. If you want to buy it, the Palmer Stabilizer would work great...but most people don't really want to drop that much money when an x-chamber will usually perform almost as well.

14" Teardrop Barrel: never had any experience with it, but Smart Parts makes good stuff. I'm still gonna reccomend you get a 12" barrel because the extra 2" are not really needed, and the -98 is already long enough. I also reccommend the Lapco Bigshot (www.countypaintball.com) and the Smart Parts All American (www.firstcallpaintball.com) just incase you haven't considered them.
Full Boar Shadow: good investment, I love mine.
CP Flame Drop: never used it. I like my Psycho Ballistics Universal Drop, but it's a really big drop and needed a lot of new connections and hoses. However, drops are a good idea for the -98...and if the Flame one will drop if far enough forward and down for you, then it's a good idea to get one.
Lapco Raised Sight Rail: I've never seen the point in a raised sight rail, the stock sights are really good and easy to use. However, if you have a reason that you want it, then you should get it.
Dye Sticky Grips: no real point in getting these. The stock grips are Hogue style ones and are better designed for the clam-shell design of the -98. The Dye Stickies are one piece that you'll have to take off to disassemble the -98, or you'll have to cut them in half to make them like the stock grips.
Psycho Ballistics Double Trigger: good idea. I've never used the PB Double Trigger, but I love my GTA one. They both will perform the same, and the PB one is $5 less at www.countypaintball.com. Plus you don't have to cut the grips on the -98 to install the PB Trigger.
If it is available in your area, I say you should get a relatively cheap Nitro tank. Only downside to this investment would be the price, but it is infinitely better than C02. I'm not too sure what tanks are good for a low cost, but I'd lean towards Crossfire tanks. If you are really looking for fire-power, get an RT Trigger. I'd heavily reccommend you get an expansion chamber like the PB X-core (you'd also need a vertical adaptor, new fittings, and new hose) for use with C02.
Anyways, those're my thoughts. Hope they might have helped.

If you're talking about that post where you said you got 3500 rounds out of a 20oz on remote....then yes, I do think you are joking...or at least grossly exaggerating. Unless that tank had been heavily over-filled (and I mean DANGEROUSLY over-filled), then what you say is not possible. Somebody else who has the time to do so can explain to you the Physics of why it is impossible.

ok im a complete newbie to paintball at actual courses. I got started by just playing with my friends in the woods. I went to a field for my first time about a week ago and am totally adicted.
Right now i got a M98c with a 16" J&J ceramic barrel. (though it was a mistake when i first heard the barrel length debates but i figure i can use it it i ever play sup'air or whatever its called)
Heres a list of the upgrades im thinking about getting.
Full Boar Shadow
Double Trigger
PB dropforward
Vert kit with an X-chamber (have any suggestions for the x-chamber?)
and a 10"-12" lapco bigshot
im not really going for rof, mainly accuracy. But I dont want to be a sniper or anything, i want to play mainly speedball.
and ive heard that with the PB dropforward i need a 90* elbow, whats that? Its going to be on with an X-CHamber, that shouldnt make any problems should it?

any recommendations, i don't need more ROF just advice on quality products. Also I like to run CO2

PS: im also getting a remote and u can attacth that directly to the x chamber w/out the need for the macroline/tank adapter right?
The adaptor with the "valve thingy" is the low-pressure vertical adaptor, so it is not for you. You cannot just hook the remote directly to the expansion chamber. You still need your gun's ASA to screw the remote into.

The part at the top of that picture you screw your tank into. The part at the bottom you screw into your gun's ASA.

Aight, I have a question about maximizing the efficiency of my gun an M98c whose sole upgrade is the Flatline, when running off CO2.
First off, I eventually intend to put the CAR-15 stock on the back of my marker, so I do NOT want anything that adds a rear cocking system/takes away the rear slot for the stock. I also intend to add a coiled remote to the marker, and run it off a 20 oz Pure Energy tank.
Now, here's my question: I want to put the Psycho Ballistics 8 stage x-chamber onto the marker. After that, I want to put a really nice regulator onto it. What sort of reg would you guys recommend for the set-up I've mentioned so far? I want to make sure I could still run the remote with the reg though.
Oh, and another thing, if I were to eventually want to add on a RT, would I be able to sweet-spot it running off of the setup I intend to have? Or would it freeze up?
I'm sorry if these questions are newbish, but I don't really like asking shop owners questions like these without talking to some other people first, as the shop operators generally will try to push certain products, and may not be the best option for what I want to do.
Thanks in advance! :)

Ok, I have been reading and reading and I am not clear...
I would like to increase the consistency of my M98c:
Option 1 Palmer stabilizer. @ 70$ I expect to go with the female version and a ring mount 20$ =90$
Option 2 Low Pressure kit w/ Palmer Stab. 240$
Question: is this worth the extra doe or should i just save the 120 and get a hooker?
Option 3 is open to suggestions. If you wanted to increase accuracy and consistency, how so you think is should be done?

just keep in mind what kind of person you are and whatyou want your gun to look like, dont just wait until you have another hundred bucks, plan how you want to upgrade before you do....

wow, 12 pages. . . so yeah, i don't have time to read 12 pages, so i'm sure i'm gonna be repetitive. . . but here goes anyway. my 2˘. . .
here are the upgrades that i have or am getting soon for my 98 Custom. IMO, these are the only ones worth getting (the only kinds worth getting. . . obviously, some will want different barrel brands or drop forward brands, etc), and this isn't necessarily in order, really. . .:
•lapco bigshot barrel (or other aftermarket barrel)
•double trigger (not just a comfort issue on a 98C. i am 95% sure that the upgrade shortens the trigger pull noticeably. nearly shot myself in the foot in my first day out with the double trigger)
•ricochet AK (or other moterized loader)
•GTA expansion chamber (or other expansion chamber)
•lapco dropforward (or other drop forward)
i would not get a response trigger because they are outlawed at 90% of tournaments and many fields. . .
i would not get the electro because its very expensive, it is mainly of use in tournaments, and the 98 Custom is not your best bet for tourneys. you can use it, sure, but it isn't a tournament gun. plus, i, personally, cannot force myself to push a button instead of squeezing a trigger. . .

Just wanted to drop my 2 cents on the double trigger. Do a trigger job first, the instructions are a sticky on the top of the tippy forum. I find a double to be cumbersom on such a heavy gun. With the trigger worked the pull is light and short. Having a single allows a better grip on the gun. I personaly like it better. I gave my double and guard to a kid at the feild.

yeah. . . right about now i'm kinda regretting the fact that i lost my single trigger while playing in a huge sandstorm:D . . . i actually had just changed them out, and for some reason had left the single trigger + guard in the case where i carry my allen wrenches. . . i pulled out a wrench to tighten a screw or something, and, in the maelstrom, lost my wrench.
that was one vicious sandstorm. . . about half the paintball guns of the thirty-odd guys at the field stopped working either temporarily or permanently (well, not permanently, but they were done for the day). i came to the field with three friends with spyders. all three stopped working at one point. . . two got them to work again, and the third pulled out his backup VL genesis which promptly ceased to work five minutes later.
my tippy didn't feel a thing. . . well, actually, it was really stupid of me to play in that weather, cuz tippy though it was, that sand could have damaged anything, and my trigger pull was slow and gritty. . . but it was actually working, and everyone else's weren't. testament to tippy.
but back to topic (sorry). . . . i like the double trigger. took a little getting used to, but now i like it better than the single. i don't necessarily always use two fingers (sometimes i do, sometimes i don't. . . comfort), but i like it.

i didn't really look around for the double trigger options on my upgrade. . . i wasn't actually gonna put it on quite yet (not till after expansion chamber). . . but i found one for cheap on ebay, so i got it. its the standard GTA one, and its worked great for me. if you get it, you'll have to use a razor to cut away a small bit of the rubber from each of the grips to install the double trigger guard, and the trigger guard needed a slight bending at first to place it in where its supposed to be.

After blowing a fat stack of cash, here is my upgraded set-up.
Tippmann 98 C Black
14" Smart Parts Progressive Barrel
Shocktec Black Drop Forward
Shocktec Chrome ASA adapter
GTA Expansion Chamber
20 oz Pure Energy Tank
I'm thinking about adding a CAR stock and some sort of sight rail or red dot sight. (I hate the stock sight) Also, I was planning on a bi-pod since i almost never shoot standing up.

ok, is it possible to put a raised sight rail on the flatline shroud? the plastic one has a 3/8 sightrail on it, but it's too low to put a scope on it (right now i have a adco imp). OR.... is it possible to put a sightrail on the side of the gun, or attach a scope to the side, if that would work at all. granted, im talking about a medium range scope, not like some huge rifle scope.

The sightrail that i have on my tippy above fits on my flatline with the plastic shroud. Its made by National Paintball. Lapco i think makes a raised rail that you mount on the side of your marker. you screw it to the right side with the screws that hold the powerchamber. But, i dont know if that one will clear the shroud. BTW if you go to a military surplus store you can get a clip that will look better than the screws you are mounting your maglite with.

well, i think you should get that elbow thing that you put on the front grip that changes it to the side, like the WWII sten gun. i think lapco makes it. check out their site they got some cool stuff for the a5. i dunno it just looks cool. but yeah flatline. its a good barrel. shoots far, although mine banks left because i need to fix it.

All of that stuff should get your Tippy performing even better than usual. As a matter of fact, I have most of that on my own Tippy:D
As a note, you're also going to need some new connections (ie steel braided hose or macroline, and the appropriate fittings). These aren't that expensive to get.
Good luck in getting your new setup.

Here's a useful site:
http://www.countypaintball.com/hosechart/
You should be able to find out the length of the hose you will need to connect the X-core expansion chamber to your asa. Also, you will need to buy a 90* connection. If you're running steel-braided hose, then it's just a regular 90* connection, but if you are going to switch to macroline (I don't really reccomend it, it's more difficult than steel-braided) you will need special 90* macroline connections.
www.countypaintball.com should have all the stuff you need to get your new setup running, plus they usually have some of the better prices on all those upgrades.

You want some good upgrades talk to Billy at www.paintball-loco.com and he will hook you up with some good ones. My friend just got an a-5 and right now hes got a 21" 3-pice sniper barrel on it. He also has a 19-stage expansion chamber. Paintball-loco has them for all paintball guns. They are cheap stuff to. You dont want a 21" thats fine go with the 16" or something!

Why on God's green earth would anyone want a 21" "sniper" barrel? Dude, no offense, but that's the sort of post that's going to get you laughed off these boards.
And a 19 stage Expansion chamber? WHAT are you talking about? :eyes:

Well, the site IS called paintball-LOCO. Maybe people go buy crazy things for their guns. Who knows...
you know what, i just realized that doesn't make much sense, guess I'm just really tired.
Anyways, I've found that some sites are just more reliable for parts. Personally, my favorite site to buy -98 stuff is www.countypaintball.com They generally have very competitive prices, and Mike there is very helpful. If you're looking for -98 upgrades, that is usually your best bet for finding what you want (or at least something similar).

I personally prefer my 67 bps super-hydroatomic trigger upgrade with my V-8, 5.7 liter gasoline-powered moterized (and by moterized, i mean MOTERIZED!) hopper. . ..
Hmmm, how come I haven't seen your friend at Desert Fox or Sudden Impact (marana), seeing as we live in the same city. . . Surprised I don't remember either the 21" barrel or 19-stage x-chamber. . . .
So how much CO2 does it take to push a paintball out of a 21" barrel after passing through a 19-stage expansion chamber?

12-04-2002, 06:43 PM
Yes I get my *** lughed at all the time! I dont care I bought the stuff so I am using it! oh and to answer your question! Surprisingly not very much CO2 is needed!. If you cant remember me it doesn suprise me. I have mostly been playin in my friends back yard. Ive got the GT Commando 2! Well the body anyways. Everything else didnt come with the gun! I do however play in Marana. I played last month. I had my Commando but I was using my Winchester as well. Do you know a guy that goes to sudden impact named Jeff? He had a blue angel LCD! Ive only seen him like 3 times. I think he moved. oh and for you Tippman users by the E-bolt system. Its pricy but well worth it. And please no more ragging on CMI. I dont rag on the tippmann!
