Before you buy her a marker (not gun), I’d take her to play at an organized field a few times. What are you going to do if she hates the game? Once you do this and she still enjoys the sport, start her out on a solid beginners marker. Spyder, Tippmann, etc… Something easy to take care of, operate, and shoot.
By the way, the marker she uses will have NO affect on whether she gets lit up by other players or not. NO WHAT SO EVER. After 16+ years playing paintball I’ve seen people with Bob Long markers make the same mistakes as people using Brass Eagle markers. The player wins the game, NOT the marker. I've been known to play entire games with my old pump just for the challenge.

This has nothing to do with the gun, just the girlfriend.
I'm wanting to play, and Lord knows by boyfriend is wanting me to. Ask her if she has any advice on how to brave it!
I've been to Crosscreek quite a few times and to various other fields. I'm open to organized paintball, I think my thoughts are more about being horrible or getting hurt.

or just keep thinking of giving birth. getting lit up must be like a vacation from that.:eyes:

a semi auto marker will do her fine. i think an electronic gun is a waste of money. it seems to me they give people a false sense of security. anyways, you can always upgrade the gun or save up and by a new one down the road. go with a pmi, its semi cheap and is a solid built marker. lots of bang for a little buck.

I would reccomend getting one of these...
Spyder Imagine
Spyder E99
Spyder Xtra
Tippmann 98 Custom
Pick one based on how involved she plans to be as well as the price range.
Make sure she tries it first, so that if she changes her mind about it you dont waste the money.

Get her This and she won't chop for the most part, and it will shoot great.
Spyder Imagine
CP 1 piece
Empire Reloader
20c02 with A/S
JT Flex 7 mask.

I got my girl friend a mini black magic because it small and lite for ur. And then I War bladed it for her because she liked how my Eblade shot.
But then it all depends on how much you want to spend.

Please remember that I haven't played yet...but my advice on the Spyder? Nooo! My boyfriend has one *granted, he has a lot of add-ons to it* but that thing seems terribly heavy to me! One of my friends bought a new Shocker the other day, and it's unbelieveable the difference in the weight. Maybe it's just all of Josh's extra stuff that makes it heavy...but DANG! I don't think I could play with it.

Yes, the shocker is ALOT lighter, but your wallet will be too after you buy it.

save yourself the time and heartache of going through guns and figure out which crowd you wanna run with (angel/timmy/cocker/trixie/mag/imp/everything else) and get yurself one of those ;)
My girl uses my old 2k2 Element Angel and luves it.. says she wishes she started playing for the first time with something like it over her old Spyder xTra.. also says its almost as nice as s$x :eyes:
anywho, hope it helps

It is I the boyfriend!!!!!!!! Jordan (the buddy) does have more guns than he knows what to do with, that's for sure. I wish he'd hook me up with an 03 Shocker. That is one bad gun. The gun is in the sig, and granted the tank and full egg do make it a little heavy. But a spyder, or something similar is not a bad way to go. They are inexpensive, easy to maintain, reliable, and very upgradable. If she loves it, then she will have a gun she can build on. If she hates it, you're not out much cash and you can probably sell it pretty easilly. Thats just my two cents.

anywho...you're gonna want to start out with a lower-end gun...trust me.
first off, you'll get bashed at the field less, since ppl have a tendency to think poorly of new players with $800+ guns.
second, tubed-stack blowbacks(spyders, piranhas, various clones of them) are much easier to maintain, and arent nearly as complex. its just plain easier to keep.
third, with the right ups, it wont really matter. the gun will shoot great. mebbe not ever as well as a timmy or trix or shocker, but still.
fourth, while i dont wholly believe in the whole "player not the gun" belief, im not wholly against it either. if u cant play well with a spyder(or clone), or any other lower-end gun, and especially against more experience players, then u wont play much better with a higher-end gun. u need to build up the basic skills first, then move up.
when i say "play well", i dont necessarily mean win, just u need to be able to keep urself in shape, and not get totally slaughtered...just be able to stand somewhat of a chance.
you'll kno ur ready when u notice its ur gun crapping u, and not urself.

The only reason I started with a lower end gun is cuz when I started playing, all we had were pumps and we thought they were the $$hit anyhow. Looking back on things, if I'da started playing now, I'd much rather start with an imp or even an angel. Maintenance is not any worse than taking apart a Spyder to switch some worn springs, lol and anyone who says maintenance is worse is either lazy or slow. Any skills you build using a Kingman you can build using an Angel.. lol
The people who get ragged on are the ones who talk the talk but cant walk the walk. Not the ones who have decent markers and are actually trying to improve.

the only occasion where i'd recommend even a "mid-level" gun as a first marker would be either if he/she will only be getting one marker for a very very very long time, or if he/she is surrounded by ppl who can make sure he/she doenst make any mistakes with the gun.
have u guys heard the story of the girl who had an angel with a 20oz co2 tank? that's what we're trying to prevent here.

most of us were there at some point. started playing with a spyder/tippy/spyder clone..or phantom in my case.... then after a season or two.. upgrade to "mid level" or "high level" depending on your financial situation. And honestly, aside from making an arse out of yourself, what skills can a Spyder help you build that a "mid level" or "high level" gun can't help you build? If someone reads these threads, comes onto this site to learn more about the game, there's a 99.9% chance that no matter if they're a n00b to the sport or not, they won't show up with an angel and a co2 tank. But maybe I have more faith in the people that read these forums then I should.
But the point I'm trying to make is this... try a few guns, see what you like, and don't dismiss mid/higher level guns because you only think they are for more advanced players. There are people I practice with and play against that use Spyders at ama tourneys.. so no doubt they can compete when upd right. But don't classify markers. higher price tag does not mean better, or for a higher skill level. Just find was you feel comfortable shooting and buy it. Because if you hate shooting it, you;ll lose interest in the game quickly.

Because if you hate shooting it, you;ll lose interest in the game quickly. no matter what, ill always recommend the lower-end guns to new players. i just realized i have an example. i invited a friend to come paintballing with us, and he used a rental. that same weekend, without asking anybody but the guy at the pro-shop, he bought an omen w/ pipe kit, and an 88/5000 pure energy tank, and an nvader mask, and a bunch of camo fatigues and a trench coat...he does NOT know how to work his equipment AT ALL...no matter what i, or anyone else with any experience says.
the largest argument for starting with a lower end gun is the saying, "its the player, not the gun". i personally dont believe in that.
IMO, the point of starting with a lower-end gun is FIRST to make sure u'll stay with paintball. SECOND is to ensure that htey wont make a fool of themselves by bunker-hugging on the field with a lasoya timmy or a4 or something. THIRD is to make SURE that they will ABSOLUTELY treat the gun well. the last thing u want is a badly-maintained angel/timmy/shocker/whatever.
you have to admit tho, when u see a new player out there with a tricked custom e-cocker or something, it does make you laugh, or at least think, "what a spoiled kid with rich parents"...
its not that a "high-end" gun wont teach you the same things that a low-end gun will, but it is that with a lower-end gun, you wont be making a fool of yourself with every mistake you make, and also, in case the mistake concerns your gun, you wont be losing a thousand-dollar investment.

definitely 2 good points there. Keep in mind I agree with you and up until just recently I would have scorn someone nesting at a bunker with a high end gun.. but I still see players in their 3rd.....4th....5th year bunker hugging. While it is something that many of us look down upon, it's still an aspect of playing that we cant get rid of. Bunker hugging is for the less aggressive players. I don't see much of a point to it, makes you an easier target but I'm not there to judge. Some people play that way, it's just comfortable for them to not be aggressive. Seeing a piss poorly maintained marker is definitely a sore spot for many of us, 'specially if it is due to lack of experience. but again, I'd rather see someone playing...even with a piss poorly maintained marker... then not play at all 'cuz they're fed up with their marker chopping/not cycling properly.

Actually I really don't. the last thing I'm paying attention to when I'm playing is someone else's marker. That same concept could apply to some rich kid driving a jacked SUV or benz. The fact is, they own it, I have what I have.. what good is jealousy?

mistakes are part of them game. I still make 'em, most people do. They happen to newbs, they happen to vets. I'd rather see our sport progress and if it means some newb plays with a $1500 marker.. then so be it. Eventually, they'll join us as more experiences players, no matter what they play with. It's still just a game where you shoot a little projectile at someone else.
In all honesty... i think both approaches work well. It just depends on the situation ya know. When I see a kid playing with insanely expensive marker and doesn't even know how to take it apart... I try and show at least the basics and recommend this site to them for more info. I do the same for someone at the chrono who isin't able to turn the velocity down on their brand spankin new Spyder. :D who cares what people play with.. just let 'em play with something comfortable.

The fact is, they own it, I have what I have.. what good is jealousy? that's the last thing i pay attention to as well...but that's probably 'cause my eyesite sucks. im talking more off the field when ur just hanging or refilling ur pods and/or hopper and/or tank. and its not so much jealousy, but just plain ridicule(for me, probably jealousy as well, but not for some of my teammates...i h8 not having money... :( ).

"eventually, they'll join us as more experiences players, no matter what they play with"-very good argument

it almost makes me feel bad... :P
i have no problem beating them...
i h8 cocky ppl even more...
i mean, i just stand there and try to get games/scrims going between my team and others, or the group of friends/ppl im with...
i dont go around talking about "war-stories" or anything...
there was this group of 4-5 ppl standing during the orientation...they were talking so damn loud about how they're so good with their spyders(while htey were packing wgp jerseys and dye pants) that it made me feel embarrased holding my spyder...ugh...
oh well...i guess its just something we have to deal with...
anywho, back on topic, as for what gun to get, i'd say spyder, or any sort of clone, but nothing higher than a stock cocker.
dagnasty recommends getting whatever u feel comfortable with within ur price range(correct me if im wrong)
so...yea, get w/e u fee comfortable with, but i HIGHLY suggest the spyder.
