what are slide checks and are they worth the extra 10 bucks?

They are worth it if you are using a remote. Basically they allow you to remove the remote without having to degass it to reduce pressure in it. A normal remote can hold 10 to 20 shots worth of air(depending on what pressure your gun operates at and how efficient it is) To release the remote, you must waste this gas to reduce pressure to the point where you can pull the disconnect off. A slide check lets you save the air and degass your gun with ease.

So I guess what I'm saying in a really roundabout way is yes they are worth it.

Definitely unless you enjoy carrying your gun at all time even in the rest area
