hey guys,
whats the difference between a regulator, expansion chamber and gas thru grip? im assuming each one does something different since they have different names, but which one do i need? thanks in advance!

gas-through grip is just that, its a grip that allows gas to go through it - retails at $8-$15
expansion chamber is used on CO2 setups and it allows the CO2 to expand into gas form so as to keep liquid from entering your gun. I havent seen em more expensive than $30
regulators basically control the psi going into your gun therefore making it more stable and accurate. Regulators work primarily with nitro but some are known to be very good with CO2 as well. They retail anywhere from $40-$120
In regards to the Timmy, get the gas-through grip if you own (or plan to own) a 450psi preset nitro tank or an adjustable nitro tank. Get the Regulator if you plan on using an 850psi preset nitro tank or CO2 (for CO2, palmer stabilizer regulators are known to be great at keep liquid out of the gun). Use an x-chamber only if you dont have the loot for a regulator and you really must use CO2 although this is the least-recommended route to go.

:D d**n, thanks Crisfofusu. i swear i was getting confused. right now i have a pmi preset 850psi nitro, so i guess im going to get a reg. any recommendations on which one? also, do i need to get seperate gauges for both my low and high pressure regulator?
thanks again.

ok, so i looked up the macdev gladitor and from what i read its the bomb. but currently i have a preset nitro tank and the reviews said that it works better with and adjustable tank. so do i need to get a separate adjuster on my tank too?
i thought thats what the regulator did in the first place?

It works fine with a preset tank so long as you can keep dirt out

Or, to quote something I already said
A special note on the gladiator reg though. They dont work so great with screw in tanks. "Twitcho that doesnt make any sense and you're a god damn idiot!" you say? Well hear me out. The gladiator, while being IMO one of the 2 best regs on the market is super super sensitive to dirt. You get the smallest amount of dirt in your reg and the thing goes to crap real fast. If you have a screw in tank, you're constantly taking the tank on and off, leaving the possibility for dirt to get into your ASA, then through your air lines and eventually into your reg. This is bad news. If you have a non screw in tank, dirt should never get into your reg and everything should be gravy. If you think that as a player you can be super careful to not allow any dirt into your air lines, then by all means get the gladiator, it's great... but if you're not that careful a guy, you may want to consider another reg.

:( geez. im still confused on which one to get.
ok, heres a few more dumb questions (i hope im using the right wording):
1) if i get a regualtor that connects to my preset tank (like a PE THOR REGULATOR/CRADLE) then i dont need a inline regulator right?
2) for the inline reg to work, i still have to take off (or disconnect) the hp reg right?
3) whats the difference between gauges that say 300 or 600 or 1200 or 5000? which ones are used for which??
as Barbarino once said, "im sooo confuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuused!!"

dawgpound55, your glad reg and PMI nitro tank is fine. The combo will work just peachy, in fact thats exactly what my setup consists of and I have had no issues with it.
as for your Q's:
1) dont bother if you already have the glad and the preset tank
2) you dont need to disconnect the HP reg. disconnecting the HP reg means you want to go LP mod which is another story.
3) those numbers for the gauges mean thats the top pressure that particular gauge can read. For the timmy, I'd advise to get the 300psi for the LP reg, 600psi for the HPR reg and if you need it, another 600psi for the gladiator.
elTwitcho, your point about dirt in the reg is not dissputed here - thats a very serious issue for me. Usually when I go for fills, I just hand the whole marker over instead of taking the tank off. I'd like to go adjustable but I dont have the $350-$500 to spend on a nitro tank right now. :D

the timmy is not an overtly complex gun when it comes to setting it up - just do your homework and you'll be fine. I did research on the marker for close to 3 months (along with 3 others) before I bought it and most people think I'm an expert on it (when in reality, I know the very basics of it :D )
