On June 22, 2002, Australian martial arts expert Anthony Kelly caught by hand 23 paintballs at the Echida Gully paintball field in Armidale, New South Wales, Australia. Each paintball was fired from a distance of 20 m (65.6 ft) at a minimum speed of 61 m (200 ft) per second.

Kelly, who also holds a Guinness World Record for catching 10 arrows by hand in two minutes, claims that paintball-catching is more challenging. "It's a different skill," he says. "They're going a lot faster than the arrows. The trick is to roll with them to be able to catch them without the paintball breaking." And they may not be as sharp as arrows, but paintballs can be just as dangerous. "It's like someone tossing a cricket ball towards you at full strength," explained the Kung Fu guru.

The marksman – Kelly's very trusted friend James Simmons – shot the .68 caliber paintballs from a Tipman SL68 II paintball marker.

In case you didnt realize it... they said paintballs can be as dangerous as arrows... in a book read by MILLIONS!

I saw the episode on TV and it really wasn't all the impressive to be completely honest...
If I remember correctly he was also wearing padded gloves to help keep the paintballs from breaking...
It was really quite chessy and the only way to tell if it's hard is to really try it yourself...
But I wasn't impressed, kinda looked like something anyone could do...
plus he broke a lot of paintballs he only saved 23...

Yeah, it was more of a parlor trick than anything.

He kept his shoulders squared at the shooter, had his left hand extended out just above his waist palm up, his right hand was extended about shoulder level palm down.
The shooter would aim for his left shoulder while he would turn his left shoulder away from the shooter and close his hands together and pull them in towards his body at the same time to cradle the paintballs.

So when you combine that action with the fact that he was wearing a VERY thick looking jump suit and the paintballs where only fired at 200fps, it's a very simple trick for anyone familiar with center line theory from verious martial arts to perform.

Yah I kno that... I saw it too, but he said paintballs were as dangerous as arrows for all to see. That is what this thread is about. Not that I dont agree with you, it was a stupid trick. But focuse on the paintballs are very dangerous part.

Well, paintballs are very dangerous, IMO not as dangerous as say an arrow thats used to oh kill things.

Thats why we wear protective equipment like masks and cups and have a FPS limit on our paintball guns at fields.
If you can lose an eye or a nad from paintballs, that will qualify as dangerous in anyones book.

He did that a while ago, and so far it hasn't done anything to effect paintball.

He had a mask on, I saw the show on the telly...but really how can a gel ball filled with paint even compare to the dangers of an arrow? Oh, I have a riddle, what is more dangerous, a bullet or an arrow?

Oh my god, big deal. Who cares, its not like 3/4ths of the population saw paintball as dangerous anyway. NOT ANOTHER MISCONCEPTION OH GOD NO!!!!

Well they wern't accurate to say paintballs are as dangerous as arrows...

but they were trying to HYPE it up it's all about the HYPE!
who wants to see it if there is no danger involved?

on the other hand paintballs are dangerous to some degree, nowhere near arrows... However I was shooting paintballs in my garage at a target when I missed and hit the drywall and it indented the drywall quite a bit...

P.S. it was still super cheesy!
