I just got rid of my POS E99 Avant marker, and got a custom 98. I know nothing about this gun, as its totally different from my last one. Basically I wanna know what upgrades you would suggest to get it up tp higher velocity. I also wanna get a nice barrel..although I use practice paint frequently so the flatline is out of the question. Thanks.

why do you need it at a higher velocity. to raise/lower the velocity, you will see this hole on the left side of the gun. the side with the letters. in that hole there is a screw, take the properly sized allen wrench and turn counter-clockwise to raise the velocity, and go clockwise to lower the velocity. i know that may sound weird, but it has to do with airflow, not the spring. for the barrel, go to the barrels and paint forum, go to the ultimate sticky. for upgrades, do a search, its on the top of thepage underneath the ads.

I already found the velocity adjuster. No problem there. Anything else? I have been playing privately with a few friends of mine, and they all have the spring/rear adjustment velocity, which we machined small pieces of aluminum to fit accordingly and give them quite a bit more power. Obviously with a stock 98 I can't compete.

by more power, do u mean higher velocity? if they shoot at the same velocity, they will shoot at the same "power". are you having promblems with your velocity not being able to get to 280-300(which u should never use) fps? if so, get a rva (rear velocity adjuster) for ups, get a new barrel, electro hopper, double trigger, and the rest is preference. well, acually everything is preference

Im not a complete newb to paintball. Just a newb to tippman. I already have a hopper, and for now Im kind of enjoying having a different style trigger, although I won't know until I play..hopefully Ill be going today. Yes higher velocity is what I am looking for.

Having a difficult time finding what Im looking for in "Ultimate Sticky". Really, Im just looking for a high performance (not the flatline), excellent long and short range barrel.

ok, if a field limits the speed to 280-300 FPS, then why is there a need to go higher?

i once had a stock m98, and i had no problems getting it on/over 300fps, playing higher than 300fps is dangerous anyways.

fyi, im not trying to be a prick or anything to you... its just a safety concern, you could seriously injure someone...

I understand 100%. What I did on my last marker was turn it up at longer ranges, back down accordingly. So the stock velocity is capable of how many fps?

my m98 out of the box was shooting 380 ish... probably cause of the new springs. but they vary from m98 to m98, how full your co2 tank is, etc...

Anyway to get it higher than that?

all you are doing with higher velocity is being more unsafe, getting more barrel breaks, and being less accurate.

ok, now im confused, you said you are not new to paintball but new to tippmann? did u get actually get a 98c as a better gun? or are u upgrading from something like a BE blade

Right, I had a E99 Avant which is a spyder. I didn't like it and I liked all the options for the 98c. I was gonna get the A-5 but they didn't have one and it was a spur of the moment thing. I just want a very unique, quality, reliable marker. The 98c seems to provide that. Right now the gun itself is all stock. Once I determine what barrel I want, Ill do that, then expansion chamber. I already have an electronic one, but I was looking at the AK-2K..very nice. I also have drilled holes into feed neck.

heres what you do. My god guys he has a Avant E99 and got rid of it and got a 98C. You can either get a rear velocity adjuster (air tipps) for about 25 bucks, or get a maddmann spring kit and replace the drive spring to a stiffer one. But, heres what I think about it.

If you already can acheive proper velocity 260-300fps, then getting a stiffer drive/hammer spring will only make the trigger pull stiffer too. This will slightly decrease ROF by creating more force against the sear and making it a tiny bit harder to trip. you probably wont notice a diff. in ROF though, but if it matters to you.

If you can reach a safe velocity like above, then get a lighter drive spring/RVA and get it as weak as possible while still acheiving safe velocity. this will slightly increase ROF, esp. w/ other trigger/sear mods.

If there isnt a part manufactured to make you shoot 400fps, then they dont intend ppl to be shooting at that velocity. Its unsafe above 300fps.

Well, well, well. We aren't playing airsoft here. NEVER shoot over 300 FPS. Ever. It is highly unsafe.

If your friends are shooting over 300 FPS, do NOT play with them.

As for other upgrades, read the stickies and search. :)
