Paintballing is turning into Skateboarding...

Ok, honestly...

if you look at the two different magazines, you see they have the same type of ads, they have the same "punk" kids who think there cool because they smoke pot (no offense to anyone who does smoke pot)

Also, the whole sk8board thing is coming to paintball..

wtf is this p8ntball?!!

i know there trying to make it sound cool by putting an 8 in it, like the Sk8board thing.

but, it doesnt sound right!

also, look at the accessories you can buy, almost like in skateboarding..

whenever I see ads, I always get this terrible vibe that it feels like the whole skateboarding advertisement.

Dont get me wrong, skateboarding is a fine sport, just its portrayed and advertised as being a "punk" sport, and you play a punk sport then your a punk, and your cool and the chicks will love you...

Also, I cant stand the freaking sexual ads aswell, dont get me wrong, but it just doesnt fit paintball... its just stupid really, I mean.. you dont see hot chicks holding bowling balls or whatever.

The game is always good, but whats with this advertisement?

I mostly agree that this hobby is rapidly degenerating into somthing akin to skateboarding: a "punk hobby". I have little doubt that as this aspect of the hobby grows it will turn off many people. I know quite a few people, for example, who have made the change over to airsoft just to get away from the trash talking "K3W1 D3WD" teenagers.

On a less serious note, Claire does nothing for me as she's far too skinny to be attractive. She needs to put on about 25-30 pounds minimum. Not that it maters to me anyway as she's non-white and I don't believe in Miscegenation.

:peace:I’m going to preface this with the statement: I’M NOT INSULTING SPEEDBALL IN ANY WAY! I myself play speedball on occasion and have no problem with it AT ALL.:peace:

That being said, I think that this is a phenomenon that is found more often in speedball. I believe that it has a lot to do with the way speedball is played and how the various tournaments are set up. You have a lot of room for egos, sponsors, designer equipment, bright colors, etc… Speedball seems to attract more young (age-wise) players as well. The games are fast and tend to rely on three or five separate players playing on the same side. Each player wants to get the most shots, points, etc… Winning is the total focus. The concept of having a good time is lost a bit. I think that the egotistical player is much more prevalent in this area of the sport.

Scenario players really are a bit more laid back and are generally older player who have played the sport for several years. These players, in my opinion, play a bit of a purer version of the sport. The whole focus is winning still, but as a team. No one player wins the game. The winner is determined at the end of the game via total point acquired over the game. Hell, even if you win or lose a mission in the game is a group effort.

As a n00b to pb I think anything that gets more folks involved in the sport is a good thing.

Sure, there will always be the "Im more hardcore" types...each and every sport has them.

There will always be kids that jump on something, just to be cool...Socrates complained about a similiar thing in his day...

And sex sells, and I for one have no difficulty in seperating the facts that a hot chick and a barrells' performance are exclusive ideas.

But what do I know, I played my first game 7 years ago, and I'm just now getting back into it.

Heck, I'm just getting back into it because i am a 1337 ubern00b and will pwn joo.

I must agree with G_Splat, I play senarios and only do speedball etc when the teams goes off and practices at a local feild.

In senario all those leet little rich punks comeing out with their red and yellow shirts and 1500$ angels all get targeted and owned up by the cammo wearing timmy shooting skillfully players

So why worry about offending drug users? Using illicit drugs is extremely foolish (not to mention illegal) and drug users deserve what they get.

It may just be a "harmless joint" to you, but every drug you buy or use supports an underground industry that does untold damage to our society.

I expect to get flamed for saying this as most of our posters here are very young and that demographic is the most likely to consider drug use to be somehow "cool". (look at the drug humor in movies and Tv shows market for teens)

I can preach on this issue as on said issue I'm without sin. That is to say I have never touched an illegal drug in my life (aside from literally doing so when I have confiscated them). When I was young my mom told me "if I ever catch you with drugs I will drive you down to the police station myself." I took her at her world and stayed clean. The country would be better off if more parents took that hard line.

I am a teenager, and I agree with you kat. It doesn't make much sense to do any drugs, including cigarettes. Alcohol isn't bad on occasion, but it can lead to bad behaviors. I used to be a heavy drinker and smoked pot occasionally, that has changed. Didn't make much sense after a while.

I don't see skateboarding as a punk sport, nor do I see paintball heading in the direction of skateboarding. Before you write another topic like this just take a minute to think breath in deep and say " Its only an ad...its only and ad".:laugh:
