I have a Tippmann Model 98 Custom and have upgraded it quite a bit. My whole style of playing paintball has changed so I am going for a Black Magic Autococker. I have a part time job and I plan on paying for it by myself, but my parents say that is too much money to spend on a paintball gun. They think I should save up for a car. WTF? who needs a car. Anyway, what should I tell them to justify spending $1000. (BM + HPA)

tell them that paintball is what you enjoy doing, so that is what you want to spend your money on.

I don't know how old you are, but I say, "Mom, I'm 18. You can't tell me that I can't spend my money on paintball."
She still *****es, but there's nothing she can do about it. :D
If you're younger than 18, say something like, "Mom, I don't complain about what YOU spend YOUR money on!"

My Dad is into paintball as well, so he's stocked about stuff like I am. He doesn't want me to spend an outrageous amount of money, but he undersstands a few upgrades. Actually I figured it all out this morning and I have over $900.00 worth of equpment and have only spent $500.00 on what I have. You just have to look for good deals. Like my 114 3000 Nitro Duck for $115.00. YEah Baby

I don't justify it, I just spend it .
Besides I'm 31.
You could tell them the the BM is cheaper than the car.

My parents golf. I say that's fine, that's their hobby, paintball is mine. One day I added it up, my dad's set of clubs was about as much as all of my gear. When they go out, green's fees + cart + balls are almost exactly what I spend on field fees + paint + air. The golf as often as I paintball, but they also hit the driving range and lessons. So all in all, paintball is a cheaper hobby. When I explained it that way, they never bothered me again about it. (Of course, I'm also 20)
Just be sure to tell them, it's your hobby (everyone needs at least one), and that's how you would like to spend your extra money.

I use the golf excuse too. Paintball for me is actually a bit cheaper. My local field has awesome prices. That, and I justify it because I only use money that's in my personal allowance, or in the "entertainment" category of our budget.
Hey. I got bills to pay. Ya know?

I justify all the money I spend by thinking: "if ya want to compete, youve gotta have the best equipment, and skill....so there ya go :) and if ya still have problems with your parents...tell them: "at least Im not spending the money on drugs" <<that one works with almost everyone :)

have they ever been to local fields or tournaments to see the players? most players have sweet guns, so its not really all that extraordinairy to spend a lot of money on a set up. my dad understands cause he plays with me and he likes all the high tech and nice guns (even though he himself cant justify owning one) he likes seeing me with a nice gun ;)

i just tell my parents that there's not a lot of things i do (paintball, skateboard, snowboard, thats it.)
and they give me spending money, and this is what i spend it on.
i tell them i play paintball because i enjoy it and it's fun, all the upgrades make the game more enjoyable and my marker more comfortable. they still don't like it so now i don't tell 'em when i buy stuff :D.

Ok...I use this as an excuse. I have always gotten great grades...I mean I'm currently ranked 4 in a class of well over 300. They never wanted me to get a job even though I always bugged them to let me get one so I could save up for a car. They were like we'll take care of the car when your 16 don't worry about it. Well guess what...no car. There better be a dam Trans Am in my garrage come christmas time...or a Dark Angel LCD under my tree...or somebody's gonna get really pissy...j/k :)]
Use the drugs one...it always works! For Everything!

Just tell em' you're trying to stimulate the local economy buy spending a hella-ton of money on paintball stuff. In the end, they'll have to see that YOU are individually saving our country from economic downfall.:D
Just tell them youll run away if they dont let you buy a gun.. Worked for me...
jk
My parents dont give a damn... They gave up on me last year.. My mom actually said that...."son.... ive given up on you"
they think i do drugs and steal stuff... i dont do drugs...stealing is just a hobby...:D owell..

Grades are what allow me to paintball.... im number 1 in my class of 500, and i always bring up the "you never reward me for my good grades" topic. Of course if your an idiot, this can be hard since you wont have good grades. Believe it or not, ive spent like 700 bucks for a tricked stock cocker + HPA.... all on ten bones a week =) When my mom questions, i just ask her how much that ring on her finger was, or how much that new dress just cost, and she shuts up quick.... my dad just sees how much i love paintball and dishes the dough
what's all this 1 out of 500 stuff.. you guys go to military school or something??? If I went to a school with ranks id probably be 435 out of 500...
I wish I was smart!!!:pissed: :pissed: :pissed: :pissed:
Maybe I should go do my homework now..

My parents don't pay for it so they have no say in the matter but they do throuw their opinion in quite often? My dad (for a while) said it was a waste of money and I looked straight at him (and this was not being disrespectful) and said "Yep it is,... but its fun" now he doesn't bother and I just got one of my brothers to play

well i told my parents i was going to get into one of these two hobbies, no matter what
target shooting
paintballin
the gun i was going to buy for target shooting was going to cost at least 1k its self. plus the local range fees etc.
paintball was cheaper.
oh bye the way. you shouldnt' expect your parents to reward you for helping yourslef out in the long run. thats being a total inconsiderate bratt.(ie. "i get good grades, why don't you spoil me because of it.")
