the a-5 deff uses more gas than the 98 just because of the cyclone feed. But you really cant notice much of a diffrence between tanks.

a friend of mine has an a-5 and i used it for a day. it definitely uses more gas, but he had the response trigger on there so i was probably shooting more and not even realizing it. i used co2 with it. it would be worth to upgrade to a nitrous tank because his tank outlasted the co2 by alot.
the tippmann website said that the a-5 goes through about twice as much air as a 98. i think this was a bit of an exxaggeration however

No no and No. It doesn't. The output on a tank is 800PSI so unless you have a regulator or exp chamber all that gas that isn't needed is used to cycle the A-5's cyclone and R/T if equiped.
Blowbacks period use more gas than that of a spyder or equally rated marker. It's just the design. Tippmann decided to put that extra gas to use by putting in a cyclone feed and a R/T.
Shooting fast period uses more gas than shooting slowly, of course a stock A-5 is going to be a gas (CO2 or Nitro) hog if you're not using a regulator, exp chamber or Anti-Syphon. The common misconceptin of it using gas is due to the fact that most people don't put on a regulator, most Model 98(c)'s have one.
If you put a Model 98(c) and A-5 on an efficiency test with one having the same regulator, tank, and shooting at the same speed you'll see very little, if any, difference in efficiency. I have an A-5 and I am able to get around 600 shots on a 2800 hot fill.
Oh and by the way, do a search, and check the ultimate sticky. This has been asked before, but today I felt like answering.

Just thought I'd point this out: spyders are indeed blowbacks as well ;)

You're right, I don't know why I put that. Sorry :) but you get the point.

A-5 is a souped up, more easily field strippable 98c,
its that simple

Also tha A-5 barely uses any more gass than the c98. The gas used to move the cyclone feeder is escess gas from when u shot ur last paintball. So ur wasting gas with the c98, while the a-5 uses it for something:D

now saying 98c wastes gas will strike a uneeded debate,

All Blowbacks waste gas, in fact all markers waste gas. The A-5 does indeed waste gas too, it just harnesses as much as it possibly can for other uses: The cyclone Feed and R/T (if equiped).
That should end any possible debate.

Yesterday I used a 20oz co2 and got about 750 shots out of it and My co2 is still shooting, it is not empty yet. But if u have the response turned or e-grip on and ur shooting fast it either freezes the co2 real fats or u runn out of co2 after about 400 shots so if u shoot at a resonlible amount it will give u over 800 shots. so if u shoot like this(pop---pop-pop-pop-pop------------------pop-pop-pop-----pop-----pop-) u will get a lot of co2 use out of it. But if u shoot like this (pop-popopopopopopopopopopopop-pop-popopopopop-pop-------pop) ur getting about 400-500 shots. So shoot pretty fast and ur good shoot full auto and 400-500 is what ur asking 4.

On the Tippmann site, they list:
Tippmann A-5
CO2 Capacity - 250+ shots per (standard) 9 oz. cylinder
Tippmann 98 Custom
CO2 Capacity - 500+ shots per (standard) 9 oz. cylinder
I just got my 98 Custom, so maybe one day I'll test this....I don't know if I ever shoot enough paintballs that it would be easy to tell, though.... :)

I personally own an a5 and it only gets about 600 shots for a 20oz c02 tank. I would recommend a palmer stabilzer, i've heard u can get about 1000 shots wit it.
