View Full Version : PMI Regulater - How to Install/Setup?

Hey guys, anyone who has done the PMI regulator install, how the heck do I set it up? I can get as far as getting all my hoses, etc installed, and the pmi reg on the gun, no leaks when the tank is open...
however, I guess the default setting for the reg is too low, cause when I fire, there's not enough gas to blow the bolt back, so I have to hand-cock it (no jokes please).
I know I am supposed to use the alan head tool to turn the nut inside the reg, but I guess my question is how much, when do I know if I'm done? Do I need a chrono for this? DO I need a gauge?
WHAT'S UP? My local shop guy cursed when he heard I got one, said I should send it back to pbgear.net. I find this odd, but I don't hold him or his shop in high respect at all.
Anyways, any info is greatly appreciated. Now, if I could ever get my chrome Custom Products 2" drop, I'd be in good shape.

unless you are going low pressure at the moment which it doesn't seem from your sig that you are just do yourself a favor and back the reg off completely until the screw falls out and then turn it back in one full turn... then pressurize the gun and make sure the set screw is tight (you don't want to loose this screw... " I know I know duh ") but if you have access to a chrono you may want to do this
Our target fps is 290 with as little variance ( +/- ) as possible
back reg all the way out
fire strings five shots and take all of your readings.... lets say something like this
reg backed all the way out 5 test shots fired over chrono 299 298 295 293 282 fps were measured.... so you add all the fps up and then divide the number of fps by the number of shots
(example 299+282+295+293+298=1467
293.4
5|-----
|1467 ok so on average the gun is shooting 293.4 although our highest reading was 299 and lowest being 282
so we are looking at +/- 17 fps variance per 5 round string
lets reduce that crank in the velocity a little and turn down the regulator a little bit and over the chrono our 5 shots measure 296 293 294 291 295 again do your math
add all fps divide by number of shots and we come up with 293.8 as an average fps our highest reading was 296 and our lowest 291 and hmmm only +/- 5 fps getting better!
Again adjust reg down a little bit since we are getting close to 290 fps our target fps don't adjust the velocity it's ok if it drops a couple fps cause we wan it set at 290 anyway cause that is our fields limit.. 5 shots over the chrono and we come up with 292 291 293 291 290 do the math... an average of 291.4 and a variance of + or minus 2 fps damn thats pretty consistent
of course this is just an example and depending on the quality of your paint and paint barrel match your results may vary. Also c02 i2 harder to regulate and will cause alot
less consistency where as compressed air or nitrogen will yield much better results but even on c02 if everything is working correctly most people with goos setups can still maintain a +/- 5 fps which relatively speaking is great compared to the +/-25 or more you saw before...
good luck and happy hunting

ok....I was told how alittle differently...
First...you turn your velocity adjuster about halfway in..
Next to turn your regulator up almost all the way ...and fire..you keep adjusting it down alittle at a time ...allowing a few shots in between turning it down for the pressure to adjust....until you see drop off in your shots...then turn it back up alittle from the point drop off starts....
next adjust your velocity with your adjuster....and your all set running low and efficient....

yeah there are several ways to do it but alot of time people don't understand what they are trying to do.. and what they are trying to accomplish where as if you tell them exactely what they are trying to do it makes more sense about what they should expect...

rather sorta like telling some one who's never fished before put a worm on your hook and throw it in the water and just sit there and wait cause if nothing happens for a few days the person figure it's still working just like it's supposed to.....

Would it be ok if i did it like this:
Screw the reg all the way in. I shoot over and over again and everytime i shoot and if it won't recock i, i unscrew it a little each time and shoot it until it recocks w/out sputtering. When i do this, i check the FPS and adjust to that. Is that ok?
